This week's chronicle is called "The Shrinking Skin" and is about the upcoming invention feature. It's a fairly low-key piece, focusing on the effects that such a new feature will have on the people who have to support it. The story has no horror, no blood and no drug taking, but I'd argue there's just as much desperation and fear as there was in "Saccade".

An enjoyable read, as always. I can really sympathize with Bob. Well done on the last bit too, I think I get the thing with Bob closing the open door

I've always found it troublesome to read the chronicles because I have found them to be sooooo confusing... Am I missing something about maybe how to read them or something? IDK... I kinda feel dumb saying that but... it's like a puzzle that you half to solve as you go along and they leave you guessing at the end... I have a feeling that's what you're going for Abraxas so brovo for that!... Yet at the same time I wish they were easier for "light reading"...
I'm sorry this is not a whine or a flame... it's really just me saying how hard it is for me to understand them... that's all.

Hmm... reading this at work...
Always love the chronicles!

I can see a metaphor between Jon/Bob and CCP/Big Business. I think I may use this story as an example for many in the corporate world.

It says that "the woman who opened the door was blah blah, CEO..."
And then refers to her as "him" and "he" for the rest of the story.
Might be worth correcting?

As much as I love that particular explanation, no, Bob does in fact have hair on his head; just not very much. You can see faint traces of a comb-over on his pate.
Originally by: JForce And then refers to her as "him" and "he" for the rest of the story.
Far as I can tell, there's two places where I mistakenly used a masculine pronoun instead of a feminine one, but you're spot on with those. We'll get them fixed.
Originally by: Nate D I've always found it troublesome to read the chronicles because I have found them to be sooooo confusing... Am I missing something about maybe how to read them or something?
It depends on the chronicle, really. Some demand a bit more of the reader than others do - "The Greatest Joke" is fairly complex, for instance - but on the whole I'd say they're fairly straightforward, this current one included. You mentioned having had problems with the chronicles in the past. Is there anything in general that constantly confuses you when you read them?

That, I believe, is one of the more thought-provoking chronicles yet to come out as of late.
Definite read for anyone in the corporate world too. Puts everything in perspective as an extreme of "work over play".

Excellent writing though! The entire piece captured the first person perspective without really resorting to the limited tense. Looking forward to Mondays a lot more now.

Edited by: Beringe on 14/11/2006 04:07:49 Very nice story.
I sort of like references to in-game mechanics (such as improving material efficiency of blueprints), but I'm sure this could easily be overdone. Probably a fine balance between increasing immersion and breaking it, if you know what I mean. "Tech 1 BP" as technical shorthand was laying it on a bit thick.
The characters were great. I felt I got to know a lot about them in just a few paragraphs.

I'm not quite sure why, but I liked it the least of your stories so far. I think it probably had to do with the fact there was no horror, blood, or drug taking
