agreed, get a challange. If you can't take an experienced corp/alliance, maybe that experienced corp/alliance should take you see how it feels then. Simply put, just kinda sad at best. Not much difference between this and popping those 1 day old newbs that don't know better then to open cargo container. __________________________ Why babelfish is bad mmm k "which the night do not expect that it calls the primary education before becoming deformed inside" |

Generally known as extortions; kinda common, frequently frowned upon, but an important part of the game nonetheless. Not bannable.

QFT.
One of my initial noob/carebear corps got war decced. At first I was really ****ed, but it opened up a side of the game I hadn't yet experienced, and in the end thoroughly enjoyed.

I disagree.
When you're in a newb corp and everyone around you is a newb, you don't learn anything by getting war decced by people who've been playing for a long time. Unless of course, those people decide to feel pity on you and tell you what you did wrong... All you do is lose ships.
Now, joining a corp who knows what they're doing PvP-wise will teach you a helluva lot more than trying to figure everything out with a bunch of other people who are equally as clueless. Sure, it might be more satisfying to 'learn the hard way'... if you're masochistic.
Anyway, back to the original topic... Is it griefing? Yeah, I think so. Would I pop an Ibis mining in 0.4? You bet your sweet ass I would... I like pretty explosions, and newbs add a whole other flavor to them.
(I know I sound like I'm contradicting myself, but I'm not really.)

I dunno about you but I learn from my mistakes without having to be told what my mistakes were and hand-held through the process of fixing them.
My corp got wardecced when we were new and we learned a crazy amount from it.

"lame" "griefing" etc don't rly mean anything tbh. Can tricks are lame? What about gate snipping noobs in low sec, in T2 mega with stabs? A 2-3 yrs old pirate ganking a noob hauler or cruiser in a 0.4 belt?
What about gate 0.0 gate camps with bubbles. I have died 1-2 times to those and latelly I have killed many many ppl while being the camper: 5-50 ppl, mostly old experienced players, snipers, dictors, inties gank a lone (maybe not noob) guy at a gate.... easy as hell usually. Is that lame? Even a cruiser killing a BS when the cruiser pilot is 2003 with eleventy billion SP and knows what he's doing while the BS is a noob mission-*****, a bit over-confident, could be considered lame...
It's a game and only CCP can say what is allowed and what's not. Rest is bull and any player knows deep inside him how 'good', 'honorable' or 'lame' he, or better, his play style, is

what if it is 300 noobs vs one well experienced vet? you really can't consider anything "lame" when one person puts themselves in 300 to 1 odds. Noobs or not. That is actually a fairly common thing for people to do also.
Really don't see it being unusuall for a 2-4 man corp to war a whole alliance, or three. Sure the fee would run you 150m per week.. but against 3 alliances, You never run outta people to kill and loot to collect. -------------------------------------- ---"What's in your wallet?"--- "There are two kinds of respect, fear and admiration.... IT IS LAME. but anyone with half a brain should be able to avoid it. transfer corp to a alt CEO and have everyone hide in the rookie corps for awhile. bored pirates move on and will likely release the war dec thinking they caused the corp to disband with ina week or so of it only have 1 person.

Posting with alts because ur afraid of ppl knowing what you do in game is so lame
And dec'ing noobs is pathetic if you have like a 100man corp or something but as said before if u are just a handful then it can be great fun to take on odds of 10v3 etc and still triumph due to experience and skill.
Also can be a good way of making isk and if ppl say it's griefing then so be it. ig u enjoy it then what does it matter?

Been on the recieving end of war dec's in my previous corp. Sadly its become the norm with the sole purpose to inflate ego's and smak talk to the little guys.
It is educational provided you have access to a veteran player or two to give advice or even make a corp alt to help. - just fitting your ships properly helps.
had some of the best fun in eve attacking 3 year old chars in 200mil ships which were expecting an easy gank with a swarm of frigs with strong EW. Not only fun but educational too. as a bonus the pirate corp attacking us didn't smak despite our ceo doing his best to smak talk the entire of eve at the time.
It did slow our abilities to get into bigger ships which may have been a good thing; but at the time was a bit frustraiting.

Edited by: Sidious Dei on 20/11/2006 12:00:42 Yes, its lame. Indeed, get a challenge. Sure EVE is pvp, but this isnt pvp - its simple PK-ing when you kill those who canŠt even fight back due to inexperience and such.
I agree that the monthly fee is spent on fun, but if you rate this as fun... You might as well buy 15 shuttles, eject from all of them, let em float in mid-air and grab your Raven and shoot em down. yay.

believing this is pvp is a misconception. What this is, is no more than mass-ganking players who dont even know their way around EVE yet.
And considering this to be "fun" is sad. It also reflect a part of your personality towards other players. Think about that.
Id rather take pride in tackling big ships in frigs in a intense battle than a easy-to-kill bantam pilot. But hey, its your chosen path.

pvp = player versus player so unless they're afk then it's pvp. ppl's fun is different so nobody can tell someone what they should or shouldn't do.
Also for ppl saying it's not challenging u should try taking on 12 noobs in bs, bc's and cruisers alone in a bs. it's certainly a challenge and great fun.

I am not telling people what to do. Im stating my opinion here, and it doesnt bother me if others dont like it.
As for this debate: several threads have been made like this and the discussion is never settled, never will be. I dont intend to be definitive here either. To me, you can only speak of pvp when both players mutually agree to engage combat. Otherwise its simple ganking. To me thats lame when it concerns older players versus cubs.
I completely agree that this should stay ingame however since its part of eve mechanics, all I simply dislike is targetting those that are obviously too weak and experienced to be called worthy opponents.
Just my 2 cents.

1. they can't kill any descent targets. 2. they want a fight. (some hide like chucklars stab-family)
result: some **** fine kills on my end. Without being called names.

I see reading isnt your strongest point. I said it doesn't bother me if my opinion is disliked. I said what bothers me is people who actually consider killing new players to be fun and entertaining. And my reply was quite clear on that.

Once again, reading isnt your strongest point. I never said your personality is bad, I said that you need to think how you can affect the enjoyment factor for new, paying players. Id rather let the new players develop well and THEN shoot em to bits once they got the mechanics down and when they have a decent chance to properly defend themselves, instead of podding defenseless victims who hardly know that F1 actives one of their modules. The pay-off is greater when you actually have to put up a fight. I do agree however, that battling in a 3 vs 10 setting you can speak of a good battle (as long as it isnt 3 battleships vs 10 IbisŠ).
And as far as knowing you goes: I don't need to know you to see how you respond and behave to the smaller players. Your replies serve me well enough to give me a glimpse of your personality.

Yeah right.... just like picking on the little kids at school makes you a tough guy.
And given the nature of some of those 'WarDecc' corps it should be an exploit - i've yet to be involved in any war that involves players who have spent less than 2.5 years in eve. I've been itching for a proper war but its largely an excuse for pirates.
At least two of those groups have used exploits of corp joing/leaving to avoid having to fight the experienced members, and rejoined only when they have located our newbie players.
Funny how in the 5 wars i've been in the casualites have been the newest players. If you wanna war come out and fight.
