I'm thinking of becoming a pirate but I only have 1 account and I don't want to stop training on my main to get an industrial alt on the same account. So what's the viability of being a -9.9 pirate without an alt?
How many of you pirates don't have alts and how's it going for you?

I agree with Lofty. I said in the forums here rather recently that I found having a hauler alt to be disingenuous - sort of like trying to have your cake and eat it too. However I bit the bullet, stopped training my main for a day and trained up an alt to fly an iteron m3. It's just too much of a PITA not having access to Rens. -- If by some chance I managed to kill you, I can assure you it was purely luck. |

wow it really will only take 1 day to get an alt in an iteron m3 or hoarder? I was expecting like a week.

start an new account with a 2 week free trial train him to minimum before being able to fly a badger(since you can't train a industrial on a free trial) the pay the fee to have him transfered over to your main account. train indus to 3 and you now have an alt that fly's a badger ;)

Yep you just gotta roll her right. Took her a little less than a day to fly the iteron m3 if I remember correctly and fit it with basic expanders. That is -all- she can do though. -- If by some chance I managed to kill you, I can assure you it was purely luck. |

The lowsec market sucks where I live (heimatar).
However, amamake is a great place to mission run. -- If by some chance I managed to kill you, I can assure you it was purely luck. |

Edited by: El Verbatim on 19/11/2006 20:13:14 or use courier missions for the smaller modules that you can't get in low sec.
I even had a jaguar delivered that way into a 0.3 station (although I was surprised someone actually did it).
Give it a nice bonus, make sure the collateral covers your possible losses (and a bit more :-) ) and the stuff usually gets delivered within a day.
I have alts that can do it for me but to be honest, I'm too lazy to spend time hauling it myself.

I'm in the same situation as you and because of it have to stay above a certain security status . Only thing you can do is have access to 0.0 which I do and NPC from time to time - but getting from -10 to a reasonable state might be a bit long ? Dunno lowest I've gone is -3.8 , saying that I did make a +0.3 increase from killing a few NPC BS's in a few hours and made a wad of isk doing so , so not all bad
Edit: While it's a pain in the behind small mods like suggested can be transported in a reaper ( any nOOb ship ) , only problem I found is when you want something bigger than a cruiser to move - it's quite easy taking a few days off to get a mammoth pilot trained on the same account ( why haven't I done it yet ) but when you want something a bit bigger like a BC or BS you have to rely on others , and by the time it comes round to you do you even want it ?

Thanks for your responnses. I think I'm going to do it b/c I have access to 0.0 (i've spent 95% of my eve life in 0.0) and I build ships with exception to T2 frigs (i can't afford hacs although i can fly them now). I just know that I'm never going to NPC my Sec status back up .... i hate NPCing.

Having been sub -5.0 for a while, i've found that the best way to live is simply to get some bp's of your own. This way you can build yourself the ships, usually there are enough mins on sale in the region that you can build any t1 ship easily. Modules are usually pretty easy to get

the other option i didn't see here is trying to get friendly with a local industrialist and try and work out a deal. I'm sure if you promise not to try and gank him/her, and you come to him when you need new ships/mods that something can be worked out. I used to have such an arrangement with a pirate corp back when i used to hang out in lowsec in my old corp.

I know many pirates who have alts on different accounts and they haul stuff for them from high sec systems. I don't have an alt on different account, but I do have an alt who can fly Iteron mark II, and it took me less than a day to train. Also ask friends or corpmates to haul stuff for you. If you have stocked up ISK, buy more modules than just for 1 ship, because when you go the pirate way, you WILL loose ships! And as mentioned before if you have SP in Industry or willing to train them, buy BPO's and build your own stuff.
Have fun I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me saying "You're next". They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals. |

indeed you have, i know its all nice feelings going solo in a vindicator and all. but dude, BUY a dictor or Cov Op alt as soon as you can afford it. it will time up your kills by 10.

People whine about the lack of prey in lowsec, whine about the carebears, think about reasons for people to move to 0.0 and so on....
Do you realize that with using alts in such a way you kill a possible interaction with other players? I would love to become a smuggler type ofr pirates in low sec, befriend with some, make enemies with others, have to bribe some, but being able to make some money with being the "alt"....
There is no in between the lines in eve. wether you are carebear, pirate or in a big corp. interaction between these parties (other than being shot) is killed....which means i hate alts....

i pirate in low sec but keep my sec status around +3-+4 by being selective over targets (hacs and bs only) and by npcing on the side (makes decent isk too).

Alts suck.
Why is there no business in lowsec? Because Gatecampers kill every industrial that tries to deliver goods there.
If there would be a decent market in Lowsec, more people would be there, perhaps mine to build there goods. Would make some nice pvp action out there. At the moment most PvP in Lowsec happens at the gates with battleships and hacs. And that is boring. _____________________________ Hugh. |

Even less than that.
Start an amarr character, start with frigate 3 and whatever else, it doesnt really matter. Train spaceship command 3 (right?), amarr industrial 2, mechanic 1, hull upgrades 1, navigation 1, afterburner 1. BAM, 18 hour 10.3k m3 hauler alt, can fly you in cruisers with unnamed t1 expanders. best 18 hours you'll ever spend training.
Hauler alts are especially useful for luring noobcorp members into mining parties in your resident low sec

I went one better than the standard alt...
I have a second account with an industrialist / trader and I moved that character out to 0.0 with me. I've made it his mission in life to create a market that will keep everyone in the area from having to go back to Empire space for the necessities. He also runs a hauler business on the side so I never have to make a run without some profit from it.
Having been a pirate for so long, I know most of the tricks, and so haven't found it too hard to avoid most of the traps.
My alt makes way more than my pirate, and has fun doing it. And sometimes he even gives my pirate discounts when he needs stuff...

I'm a pirate and I dont have any alts whatsoever, and I manage by trying to stay above -5.0 ...recently I've moved to 0.0 again and started lowering my sec status (coming up on -3.8 \o/ ).
I don't actually have to as I've figured several ways where I can get highsec stuff, in lowsec, for the same price.
So I'm not that bothered...the sec status increase is just a luxury.

Alts are useful as it works both ways, you haul your loot up and bring what you need back down.
I used to use couriers etc and buddies but it really is far easier to be self reliant.

Bravely bold Sir Tiller rode forth from Camelot. He was not afraid to die, O brave Sir Tiller! He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways, Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Tiller!
He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp, Or to have his eyes gouged out, and his elbows broken; To have his kneecaps split, and his body burned away; And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Tiller!
His head smashed in and his heart cut out And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged And his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off And his pen--
Brave Sir Tiller ran away. Bravely ran away, away! When danger reared its ugly head, He bravely turned his tail and fled. Yes, brave Sir Tiller turned about And gallantly he chickened out. Bravely taking to his feet He beat a very brave retreat, Bravest of the brave, Sir Tiller!
He is packing it in and packing it up And sneaking away and buggering up And chickening out and ****ing off home, Yes, bravely he is throwing in the sponge...
