There's a thread in CnP called something like "the most dread pirate in Eve" or something like that. Check that out as a start for PvP.

I think your confusing Forum Vs Game
Dark Shikari is mainly a foru..a..w.h. and although, my alt met his alt .. .once which was weird.
Lofty gets bosted about cause hes a nublet ganker using Questionable tactics etc. etc.
id Vote for
Menod Penter - Unoficial Mayor of Rens :) mainly cause i lived there for a while and his impact on the locals is often very funny and id say alot of heimater residents know him or have a space cleaning directive forced upon them.
Seleene - never met and im very very Glad i havent :) but im sure the MC are well know throughout the EvE universe.

Second nomination for Inno. He's a totally hilarious guy, and I read the 0.0 experiment which totally opened my eyes to EVE as a game besides 'that spaceship one with the stupid PVE'.
From his adventures, I also got the inspiration to write my serial 'Action! Suspense! Jita!', and hats off to him for getting me to play this great game.
...
Aside from Cyvok (Titan plus biggest current guild), there's a few other people of note I think. Seleene's got quite a bit of name, I'm an avid follower of Mr M's Eve Tribune (another reason to play and venture to 0.0), and I do suppose I like Killer8 and his hilarious flash movies. A pity there's only one left.

You've got 2 different types of famous eve'ers in my opinion, the genreal forum *****s like dark shikari etc and the ppl who you don't see much on the forums but u hear about their activities in game like farjung's vindicator escapades etc.
Then you have ppl who you just know for being head of big respectable corps like verone of veto for example.
ppl like lofty are known for being a git in game which i think is hilarious but many hate him.

Once you've borken down teh forum *hores and gone ingame, you need to then go ingame and brake down the carebears and the pvpers,
needsless to knowing carebears is more helpful

I frigging loved being scared tbh. They used to camp the system next door to me (I was in Korama, they were in Aurohunen), and I was trying to rally some friends to go fight them. But as usual, not many wanted to risk their ships... carebears.

Hmm, there's a few people I'm sort of scared of even though they did their deeds before I even started playing 2 years ago, like Tank CEO (still around) or Lord Zap (don't think so).
One who I knew from before my time and is still scoring in lots of disciplines (forum spammage, nice vids, successful PvP, respect by others, good corp leadership, E-ON articles, even role play) is Verone, so I'll vote for him.

there was one guy who went inactve ( think it was one of the original moo guys that was famous for a while) as for more recently Seleene at MC is a rising start sirmolle and cvowk ( titan epeens) um ouever and tom B of course and keiron ( cant forget the CCP guys)
