I was thinking that too. Was a bit tedious having to read through them all, when before I could have had them sorted. -----------------------------------------------

We, as in The Community, told them long before today what points are wrong in the contracts system. I've used escrow to buy and sell stuff in large numbers since the beginning of the year, approx. 50 escrows to refresh more than once daily.
The new contracts system was supposed to be a major improvement. Yet, it just feels to me like the ones responsible for its development were just ppl who casually use escrow, perhaps look on it ones per week. They looked on it from that perspective, thinking about its simple but working design.
And thats how they put their ideas in a working solution. It looks all fancy, wow, theoretically its the work of a genius. But its not usable. And now I find myself in the position that i just want back the simple working design back. It had some flaws, but we are used to working around it.
I'm a major escrow reseller and mission runner. Both things are now far worse than before kali. Not because of major errors but because of the missing love for details. The contract developers surely haven't used the escrow all that much and the idea of wrecks wasn't thought of from someone who kills a hundred npcs in a mission and loots them after that. *sigh* Lets see how the oncomming criticism on forums will change either... nor nothing.

Edited by: missusblonde on 29/11/2006 16:10:55 I hate the new contract system, it's a pain in the ass to use if you buy or sell more than a few escrows, personally i'd rather not use it atall, but i dont want to be forced into doing that. I liked the old escrow much better, it was far easier to use.
Font way to big, not enough items per page, i much prefered everything being on one page anyway, and wheres my ability to sort by price and alphabetically?

I so agree with this. The new contracts system for auctions really bites. You can't search all regions at once, you have to manually go through each region one at a time, and then you have to go through and browse every single page/item to TRY and find what you are looking for.
Problems: 1) Can't search all Regions at the same time 2) Can't sort by price/name 3) Can't search for particular items
To be honest I like the old Escrow better. There was no 'flash', just plain jane details/information. Now you're got this convoluted interface to try to make it all nice and shinny. Not needed in my opinion. |

YOu can search for particular items but it is bloody slow and annoying.
You cant just stick it alphabeticaly and "go shopping" because its just a mish mash of stuff with no order except the 4 default tabs which kinda suck.
Its half way there and i hope its unfinished it only needs full regional browsing ( probably taken out as intended tho) and a less annopying way to browse it.

We'll be increasing the results pr. page to 50 (hopefully 100 if it doesn't create too much load). You will also be able to sort each result page. Down the line you'll have search based on categories instead of just selecting an item.
Keep the feedback coming.

Edited by: Jim McGregor on 29/11/2006 16:33:51 I think once sorting the stuff on selectable parameters is in, it will be great. Right now, what if I want to know what auctions finish within 30 minutes for example? Or find the cheapest Rohk in the Heimatar region?
So get those sorting/search options in there, and you have both a great looking GUI and functionality that surpasses the old escrow.

Definitely the Regional Browsing needs to be improved. It's a nice feature to be able to search one Region. But what about search all Regions at once? Or like 5 regions at a time like Murder One just suggested above?
We really need to be able to explore more then 1 region at a time. This makes it very time consuming. I don't want to spend half my time on EVE searching for things off Auction list. I want to spend my time doing other things like: PvP, Missions, Hauling, etc... |

Susan, I like the amount of info. I don't want less info than what is there now.
With that in mind, the improvements I'd like to see in order of importance are:
- column sort function.
- search by item.
- resizeable multi-item contract detail view window.
- search by individual item across the universe.
After that, it's up in the air, but those would be my top picks in order of priority.

Almost all auctions will be about a specific item and only one. Since you can see the item name on those auctions anyway, noone will bother with a description anymore to only repeat the name of the item. :) -- |

Just incase anyone didn't notice you can bring up more options that lets you filter contracts by item types, titles, and player name etc. Not saying there's no room for improvement but I've had no problem finding stuff using these.

My list currently
1. Sort by name 2. Sort by type (not necessarly exact item but item type) ie bpo or armor hardner ect 3. Look at all regions at once.
Personally I think limiting it to one region at a time is going to further condense people. My reasoning is I tend to look in my current region then in maybe 1 other and the other is what I consider to be the most populated to get the most results. I see this as regions that done have high population being neglected forcing these peeps to move their goods to populated areas. The old escrow system showed all regions which was one way for people in outlying areas to "feel" connected to hubs at least a little.
My reasoning for name and price sort is simply to be able to "browse" the stuff. Alot of the time I dont "need" anything but am just lookin for deals on anything.
Anyway they basics of the system are good just needs tweeked.

Dear Sir, Please alow us to be able to serch for a particular module. For instance I would love it if I could type in a search box "Dread Guristas cruise missile launcher" and it return a result for all regions. This follows nicley when fitting a ship and your short on CPU or whatever and do a comparison but find it would be a faction/officer module that would alow you to fit. As I see it this system you have implemented is going to simply cause people to all travel to jita and put thier wares on there. If we had a search feature this would to some extent negate that. As it stands now it simply takes too long to find the thing your looking for. Whilst simply browsing/window shopping is well catered for the way it is now, if you want a specific item your outa luck, just keep serching.
I hope this helps with the feedback.

Hello,
here is my suggestions for escrow.
I was playing alot with it today, and basicly geting information out of it is very hard. It's really hard to for example to find CARRIER - let's say "Thanathos".
In "pre-kali" patch, that was like 4-5 sec work, sort out by price, and go around price range you need, and there it was.
I am not saying I know the better way to do it, but this what we have now is really time wasting. I need to "visit" each region to check for what I need.
I also had idea before escrow (contract) we have now. Contracts should have some additional color, for example like on killboards, you know "yellow" is battle ships even before you read it - "purple" is capital ship "green" can for example be a BPO TECH 1 - "blue" BPO TECH 2 - BPO's that are copies "orange" etc etc.
So by looking colors only, witout any reading you can really go fast over alot of informations.
Colors are way easy to learn (And put them in some kind of order) then actually reading each contract with informations etc.
So, my suggestions is use "visual" features to narow down the search, human brain can process this things very fast, so why dont you use it?

Why-o-why can we only search one region at a time? Jita's too concentrated already, now everyone'll just put all their stuff in jita so everyone sees it.

Add Sort facility by every column please.
Add more filters. One to display only "Item Exchange" contracts that are basically just sales for cash. At least add a filter that hides "Want to buy" contracts from sales ("Exchange") contracts.
Widen drop-down menus so that all selected text is correctly displayed. Viewing another region truncates the region name at present.
Allow players to determine column widths.
Allow alternate views - e.g. simple list view (data in cells).
Allow simultaneous region search for specific items. Returns results like:-
1 item in Lonetrek (view) 5 items in The Forge (view) etc
More as I think of/ encounter them.

Couldn't agree with you more. Just means that J-MART (JITA - The Wal-Mart of EVE Online) will become even more crowded and condensed then ever before as people move their stuff to a more centralized location to be put onto Auction/Escrow.

How about letting people put contracts into groups, like the way the market is organized? Sure someone will want to sell a batch of items together, but those can all go into some "other" bin. I should be able to easily see all the cruise missile launchers in all regions.

Isn't that what market is for? Now if only CCP put ALL (faction/officer) items on market we would not have this discussion and people would not use Contracts for normal sales/purchases. _________________________________________

The new style was clearly thought for the casual user not for the trader.
To be able to actually find something there a good first step to fix it would be to put all the info in columns not in 3 rows for every contract - it will allow for more rows and you can hide useless colums (useless - as in whatever someone doesn't want to know, like region, when you can look on a sigle region anyway, or name of the seller). Make it possible to sort on the columns...
I never thought i would miss the horrible escrow system
Edit: Yes, or do what Naal said - put everything on the market, leave the contracts only for BPs, pack deals and other stuff.

Good throught, unfortunately putting the Faction/Officer items on the market still won't solve anything, since you can only view one Region at a time on the Market. |

Agreed.
The way it is now, each item takes up THREE (3) rows of info whereas before you had more information in ONE (1) row on the display screen.
So this is not progress.
A blind cat with a severe head wound can cogitate this.
If CCP thinks this is progress I would refer people to the fact that they also think that:
Green = Bad scan Yellow = Low probability scan Red = Good scan
huh?

Sry, slightly offtopic, but i'm concerned.
I'm not sure i understand the new contracts system correctly, but a very good friend and long-time EVE player just left the game after being extremely upset about it, and that makes me angry. The main reason: He is a trader. At the moment he has about 300 items which normally would have their place in escrow to be sold, but now he can only put up to 15 items (Contracts lvl V needed) up for sale. This ruins his whole specialization in this game, and i don't think he's the only one.
I just want to know if i will see him again. You tell me.

There was already a vibrant market for low-quality faction items and other stuff. Buy orders near the real escrow value to allow people who looted said item to unload without hassle.
There are many faction items that are bought in the same way that t2 mods are: TS platings and EANMs, cap rechargers, low-end webbers and disruptors, faction ammo etc. You dont buy those items only once and treasure it for all eternity (like you would do with an estamel invul). They are for all intents and purposes consumables. Instead of making everything searchable (so that you dont need to maintain a quickbar), you made everything untradeable. Great idea. Make everything searchable ASAP (as in: tomorrow).
It wont solve the problem with officer mods (sorry naal, but those are not ment for market ...), but at least it will help make this pathetic system a bit less pathetic.
Jita will be bad with just high-end faction and officer mods. Imagine all the low-end spam. Imagine Jita hitting 2k. Infact the only thing preventing Jita from hitting 2k in the future are the bad servers. Making the most effective way to play the game the one that puts the biggest strain on the server ... sounds familiar, doesnt it?

Oh yes, the people who actually used escrow since they nerfed the market, right. Because removing escrow entirely and replacing it with a useless eyesore which I cannot find an item I KNOW is on there (a friend placed it, at a certain price, in a certain system and its still up).. yea, that's PROGRESS.

Cut the flames, guys.
By making contracts only searchable by region, you will guarantee that people will swarm to hubs, not disperse. I wanted to see what an implant was going for on escrow, so I naturally checked Jita/The Forge first... I'm know not the only one. Because of this, people will only sell in Jita, Oursulaert, and a couple of other hubs.
This was intended to make regional markets more pronounced... but now all people are going to do is swarm Jita more, not less.
If I wanted to escrow something before, I would set the escrow away from Jita, either below of above Jita prices... if it was scarce, people would pay the premium. If it was common, perhaps people would go a bit further to get the item if it was 10% cheaper.
You can't do this anymore... I hated the lag that I got on escrow, but the lag was better than this current situtation. -----------------------------------------------

No way in hell im flying up all the way up jita (more the other hubs) just make a few million more, or sell it 2 days faster. People need to realize that 2 mil isk, or a day of time on the market is not really worth the over-an-hour flight time to get there. Maybe a valid point for the regular stuff. But what's about BPCs? I know, selling Cruiser BPCs was not that moneymaker, but now having a max. of 15 BPCs in escrow (that's even less than different types exists). Additionally you have to pay tax for it. My first thought was: Selling them on the forums, but the 15 contracts are already including private contracts (which I didn't get to work, but that's more my stupidty I guess).
We have inventions here, people might switch from Copy to Invention, creating a good market for BPCs...

You are right, contract system is a nerf to large parts of the eve population.
Just not the loophole-abusing big traders. Alts in all hubs and a jumper will be enough to simulate global searches ... Thanks CCP for killing the poor one-account competition ... i made dozens of billions with escrow, and now you collapsed the entrance behind me so there will be no new competition coming up.
Well, and i have to stop doing business myself, and use some random faceless alt employee to enter the stuff. No more Argenton Sayvers escrows ...
Oh and they decreased the functionality of the market a lot by removing bulk items like COSMOS mission stuff and low-end faction items (those will now have to be sold via contracts - one contract for each TS plating, where before you could have put a stack of 10 on market), so i guess that makes you look like a random whiner who just wants to see people suffer.

Depending on what you are selling, you might not get rid of it at all. People will check: their home region, maybe regions somehow related to their home region (Forge, Lonetrek, Citadel for example), the region of the closest Hub (Heimatar, Domain, Essence) and Jita.

The only two things I would like to see are:
1) Being able to search more than one region at once. 2) The 'search' box supporting wildcards (for example, if I wanted to look for a faction warp disruptor, I could type "* Warp Disruptor" and it would find all the True Sansha, Domi, Shadow Serp ones). -----

I might have an idea on how to fix the current system.
Part of the behaviour of the new system is now as it is because it cuts the load on the servers. This is why you can see only 25 items at a time and why you can sort only on page and not all - to be able to sort on the entire escrow you need either to have the entire escrow list and do the query locally or to send the query to the db server and get the results. I don't know how large is the strain on the server to do the query but i suppose it is too large to use it as we would have already had it.
So it remains to get the list and sort it locally on the client side. This is what the old escrow did - every time you opened the escrow it downloaded the available escrows. To keep the list smaller you got only a part of all the escrows.
I believe this can still work better - with the new restrictions on the minimum price and number of escrows, and with the taxes, there will be way less items to send to clients. Secondly you can make the system to send only the new items to the client and not to update the old escrows (if this saves traffic) just make the client delete them automatically after expiry date or on checking the individual item. This way every client that uses escrow will have the entire list - the downsides being that you'll have a lot of already sold items and that the first load of the escrow will take a bit.
Personally I wouldn't mind too much seeing the already sold items - I could even enjoy seeing them as a history of the price range for an item.
Another way to improve it would be, as stated before, to put faction items on market. You wouldn't be able to look outside regions but at least you could sell or buy something if you want. The way it is now it is impossible to look for the best price on something, it is more like a lottery.

What bothers me (well, actually, my hauling alt) bigtime is you can't pick up courier contracts unless you are in-region. This restriction makes planning hauling runs a real PIA. Basically, to be sure you get the route you want, you first have to fly it in a shuttle or interceptor, pick up the courier contracts, then return to your ship base and actually run the haul in your industrial or freighter.
Of course all this after you've searched every region for the courier contract offers in the first place. Gah!

The new contracts system is a very poor replacement for escrow, without the ability to browse (and in turn, catch someone's eye with a good item that they weren't necessarily looking for). Proper browsing requires a master list that we can sort by price and name.
Without doubt, the interface is cleaner and it's certainly a lot harder to be scammed - you get a picture and clear info-box on the item, and unless you do 'Multiple items' it seems that the name of the actual item you are selling will always be clear to the buyer.
Now, I do understand from the previous posters that a large part of the design brief behind this new system was to reduce server load - and that perhaps a full region list organised by price, would put more strain on it than the present system.
However, if this is a legacy of server problems then I would say that for the first time we're seeing strange Frankenstein-like solutions that will be noticeable to the new player; the various option boxes visibly try and obscure the fact that we can't actually sort the list in the most obvious and logical manner.
If I saw something like this in a rival MMORPG, I'd mark it down for lack of basic functionality. It's even worse because a new player wouldn't know the technical legacy for having it this way, and would just assume Eve doesn't use logical UIs.
To be honest, if concerns about server lag mean that we can no longer, for example, sort a list alaphabetically, then the future seems kind of bleak

My only problem with the new contract system is that each contract takes up 8x the space 1 escrow did and there are very very limited sorting options so browsing is really slow and clumsy.
I see no problem with region only contracts, except that its just going to make jita worse than ever. _______________________________ Idea stolen from DS:

OK, Silly Susan. I've really only got one little niggle that I've not seen anyone mention yet (althought I'm not a whorum so i mighta missed it).
Whe you want to search for a certain type of item, you put in a string and it pops up a list to choose from. All fine and dandy and quite useful APART from the fact that it only seems to search on the start of the string and that it doesn't seem to allow you to search for some items.
As an example, when I was playing with this last night I noticed that there was a "Caldari Navy Hookbill". So I thought, "cool, let's see what other hookbills there are" (not that I wanted one, I refuse to fly Caldari, the are just too ugly, I like to think of them as the 80's Volvos of EVE... "They're boxy, but they're good!"). Anyway, I typed in "hookbill".. and guess what, nothing matched (or maybe it did match the normal hookbill but not the navy one, I just had a ****y lunch as it's my birthday so my memory is a bit hazy). So, to cut a long story short, I fiddled a bit (with the searches...) and came to the conclusion that the item search only matches the start of the item descriptions. I was also unable to get it to match the "caldari navy hookbill" that I could clearly see several of in the results without the type filter.
So, I'm off to the pub now, have fun.
Cheers

'This contract is the The Forge region. You can only access outstanding public contracts in the region you are currently in.'
You cant handle yo bizness remotely, and then go get it later at a more convenient time? I guess everybody's going to have a dedicated alt in Jita to deal with these cool contracts. wtf is the point of browsing contracts in other regions if you cant access them? And yeah... what these peeps said about sorting and fiting more than 10 random contracts on your screen sounds good to me.

Edited by: Grash Freedom on 30/11/2006 09:02:51 Escrow never had any serious problem other than the refresh escrow thing
We got a new system that it was supposed to improve escrow, what we got is another version of the market, with no categorized items, not any good search function(you have to know what you are looking for to search for it, then if you find it, buy it
but what if you want to buy stuff that you do not know they exist? how this can happen you tell me? for example gist 10mn mwds are not ingame atm, how the hell i will notice that the item got in? waste time over the forums and hope that someone will post it?
Escrow was a nice tool where you had the ability to trade all over eve without being there, the bad side was the refresh escrow thing but, you can't have everything
My suggestion Give the old escrow back but with much better search options, eg. date created, sort by real time created, sort by price, sort by seller, sort by region, sort by name of station, Min max price, search by name of item, title, block list( have a scammerlist similar to buddylist and add ppl in it)
Well preaty much sounds like contracts, most of the above are already added, but they are not usefull, because of the way contracts looks, All we need is an excel like sheet with colums, and autofilter( this is a very cool function of excel where tho simple, is one of the most easy ways to specify rows(items) you want to see
Although keep the new contract system for ingame auctions, freeform( i have no idea what this is yet), loans etc
But plz CCP give the item exchange or whatever you have called it, back the way it used to look, but with new search fuctions, and better user managment, we are not after GUI or fansy grafics, we only need a system that is easy to use and easy to buy/sell stuff from it
What you ve made is a new market, that looks like project entropia's trade really bad one
Oh almost forgot,, all other contracts other than public, do not work
Edit: something else i want to add can we have exrow packets? that you have preready so if an escrow expires, drops in an escrow box as it used to but you can re-escrow the box and all titles info is stored there so you do not have to write it again and again? Crazy and not going to happen i know, but.. worth a shot

I encountered this same problem last night when I tried to buy "Gistis" in J-MART (Jita).

But once the box of gist comes up, you can only pick ONE of those to search for, not all of them. So you can't search for any Gisti item on Contracts, but instead only 1 at a time. That sucks. So if you're looking for just cargo expanders for instance, you need to check each type individually. Is there any way we could get a "Listing" vs "Detailed" toggle to hide or show additional information?
In particular can we get a list more like the old Escrow when browsing and toggle the more detailed new list when we want to see the information on the item?
Even if the list came up like Escrow and expanded like the character skill sheet when we click on an item would be a welcomed addition, IMHO.

30+ minutes gone is my concern.
I had to look through everything on auction or exchange and as theres a pathetic amount of items in each new page it took about a third of the time I actualy spent online that night. Granted that contracts look pretty but its purely a waste of space.
The old escrow system where searching for a group or type of item was as simple as setting an alphabet sort is gone.
What took 5 minutes every night to look for my favourite officer, faction and deadspace modules now takes a huge chunk of my online time to plow through.
Its almost as if a casual player whos never used escrow properly - or a hardcore player who looks down on escrow as for trader scum has set up contracts.
I read and heard a lot of promises for contracts and so far I havent seen one real advantage over escrow.
So as of now a large part of what I enjoy about EVE has been ripped out of the gameplay and replaced with some ill thought out eyecandy.

Put it back into a one line table format that we can sort using any column. Columns needed are name of item, location, price, days left, and type of contract. Very basic but about all that is needed to locate a contract or browse them. From any row let us pull up a pop-up that has the full information about the contract.
This would be usable which the current system is not.

A player changeable format with the following fields would be great.
-Type of item/s- (bpc bpo ship etc. or what it would be listed under if it was on the market or not listed in case of officer faction etc.) -name of item- (or multiple and taken from the item name that was put on escrow ie: Blueprint Copy -Raven) note: for multiples it would be nice to get a hover showing all the items listed. -price- -Location-
If I want more information then that then a show button would be available.
Really all of this information should already be seeded to the item and available to be pulled off of the item by the system. Also the old format was great where I could select station/system/region/all before I started searching.
