If you are not seeing a blue screen when XP unexpectedly reboots it could be because of XP's blue screen settings. Check System Control Panel -> Advanced tab, Startup and Recovery Settings button. If the under System failure section the option for Automatically restart is set and Write debug information is set such that it is not dumping a large amount of data then the blue screen might not be shown long enough for you to see it. Clearing the Automatically restart option will allow you to see the blue screen, not that it will actually fix the problem.
I know you don't need the whole crash dump to be written to disk. I was having a problem with my computer and it was only flickering the bluescreen up for a split second before rebooting. This is what I was referring to. I'm not sure what my setting was, as I don't have access to that computer at the moment. In any case the tiny crash dump generated during this bluescreen flicker is probably enough to help.

1) Rename your eve/cache/browser/img folder to anything, i use abc. 2) Open eve 3) Delete newly created img folder 4) Login 5) Voila, no crashing. Just delete the img folder it creates on each login.
Yes, that works for me. I have an AMD Athlon64 3200+ Venice core (not dual core) and the client was crashing me to desktop upon arrival at a gate. Thanks dude!

I've seen a couple posts that seem to indicate Realtek audio has an issue. I THINK I remember seeing something about just changing the sound acceleration fixing it which may let you play with sound, you'd have to look around.

I'm somewhat discouraged as, though CCP has acknowledged this is an issue the way they worded it, it sounds like 'directx issue' means something WE need to do to fix this.
I'd like a followup from CCP confirming this is serverside and they are working to resolve it.
They know its an issue... yet the whole "no eta on this issue" doesn't sound good. I hope this isn't going to the back burner... or to say, i hope this is at the top of their list. They said they had an army of programmers on thisI spent last night troubleshooting for hours and i'll be dammed if i'm gonna spend anymore time on it.
not to be 'that guy' but i do pay for this service. i'm not going to re-do my whole **** system to try and make eve run. its not my system its the client. I have a half dozen other directx 9c games that run fine no matter my settings (hardware and soft) and i've NEVER had an issue running eve in my last 2+whatever years. EVER.
giving it 3 days. if i cant log on after that... not sure what i'm gonna do, what i'm not gonna do is wait 2 weeks till i can play eve again.not real happy i cant get on for longer than 2 seconds. no changing skills, no communication w/ my corp members (those that aren't crashing to desktop).....
edit: no dual proc here, only emulated hyperthreading and thats turned off, so no process affinities to set , i'm sure there may be a dual proc issue.... but the CTD's at stargates issue goes deeper than that
Have you tried deleting the cache/browser/img folder AFTER you log in? Do you reboot, or drop to desktop? If you drop to desktop, run logserver and get a log of the crash. It can help you or your chosen technically inclined friend track down the problem and work around it.

deleting after login? no, i guess i'll try that when i get off work
i CTD, no reboot. just about everything suggested (except above) was suggested last night and none seemed to fix or temp fix.

If that's the last thing you see your issue might be different. The guy's log I was looking at to help him track down this problem had 2 lines of
Open C:/Program Files/CCP/EVE/cache/Browser/Img/12809300651415711116.jpeg
at the end, right after the HandleEvent(0,0) call. This, in conjunction with some forum posts, is what led me to believe that deleting the img folder (remember, AFTER login) might help. Also, that img folder will be recreated every time you log in, so you will have to keep deleting it.

Hello, i'm having the same issues that alot of u r having. I CTD at stargates. Awefully **** annoying !! My system is made up of:
AMD XP 2600+ 1.9Ghz XFX 6800 Extreme 256Mb 1Gb DDR3200 Windows XP Home w/ SP2 downloaded and installed
As a temp fix i have done the Eve>Cache>Browser>rename and delete image file delete and it is working fine so far. Been on 10 minutes straight which seems to be a record now. I tried installing all the new drivers for my Vid card, re-installing the client, making sure DX9c was installed and nothing else worked. I sure hope CCP gets this problem fixed soon cause it is a pain in the @$$ to delete this file everytime i want to log in.
Thanks

Just feel lucky you're able to use that work around. The guys who have a computer reboot instead of crash to desktop can't work around the problem at all.

It's only the cache/browser/img folder, not the entire cache folder, and it's only AFTER you log in, each time you log in. The specifics are important.

Another one here with the 'reset' problem after the patch. No BSOD, just a system reboot. Sys - XP sp2, Biostar MB 965 chipset, Pent D 805 CPU (dual Core), 2GB geil DDR, 7800GT, Realtech onboard sound.
I have tried several of the fixes here and no joy.
Almost an instant reset maybe 30 sec after NPCs (rats) appears in a belt, not the only time a reset happens but the only time it happens EVERY time for me Sure hope it gets addressed quickly. |

Same stuff here pretty much. Market will not work, in any region. Cannot dock and/or jump without having to log out. it doesn't crash, it just sits there and does nothing. Or in the case of gates puts me in jump queue after my ships already jumped, an i'm left sitting there staring at the gate untill i decide to log.
I'm running a dual processor machine (each multithreaded) and set the .exe file to only 1 thread. have tried deleting the image folder on logins, deleting the entire cache, and reinstalling to the d drive. None have made any difference.
ccp - fix pls, kthxbye

Can I offer a suggestion?
There was an issue surrounding dual core processors last year; namely the stuttering gameplay. This was also resolved with setting processor afinity, etc.
However, it was also solved by using a patch from Microsoft, or by installing the later AMD dual core optimiser for gaming.
AMD Download Page
My last install was a few months ago, but I installed the AMD drivers from scratch.
I have to say, I have noted no problems at all with either the beta versions OR with the newly installed client as regards CTD's. If this is a problem for you, can I suggest using the AMD drivers?

so... i finally got the workaround for the CTD at stargate to work. so i can play right? not so much
went to dock at a station and my pc shut down
windows miraculously recovered my hardrive. i came here to rant, started my post and windows locked up for the FIRST TIME since i built this system many many months ago.
pc construction when i was a kid, engineering degree i do the whole IT/networking/product development thing for a global company, and i know bad bad bad code when i see it.
i've seen damaging effects of bad code on equipment (very rare but it happens). I'll be dammed if i'm gonna play beta tester for CCP and pay for it. I know, patch day blue. I've played this game for yearS (thats an 's' on the end) and i know all about patch day "blues". I'm not ok w/ patch day "mess w/ hank's PC".
no new info from CCP yet either? just 'no eta' and hanging onto that 'dual proc/core' thing. what about dropping a line for all those that are CTDing/rebooting/shutting down that DONT have this hardware??? very disappointed at this point. but i'll give them time to fix it
friday night. if there isn't a fix addressing these issues by then, or word from CCP that they KNOW what the issue is and they will have it fixed IN A DEFINATIVE TIME PERIOD... well, guess i'm going to have reached my patience as a long time customer.
good luck all o/ , a roll back after ppl deleting their BM's isn't gonna happen. They either gonna make this work or we gonna be paying for a couple more months of testing and searching for the problem. I've done my share of that in the past, but this may be the perverbial straw....

I've been having a few problems with the CTD, where the game just shuts down for no reason, mostly after jumping into a new system. It would happen again and again until I rebooted, and then it seemed to work fine for the rest of the night.
I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+, but I only recently updated my BIOS so that it would recognise my CPU properly so that I was able to use the dual-core function. I also installed the AMD cpu drivers a few weeks before that. It was only after I updated the BIOS and started using the dual-core that I started getting this problem.
Haven't had any problems with sound. I use an Audigy 4, not realtek.
I'll give this AMD Dual-Core Optimizer a try and see if it happens again.
Also, this started a few weeks ago, before the update, so it wasn't because of that. I haven't undocked yet since the patch, so I don't know if it's still an issue since the update.
It is kinda scary if you jump into a system with campers, only for the game to crash and then you to be warped back to the gate when you relogin.. Hasn't happened yet, but it wouldn't be fun..

Ill be installing a dual core CPU on my comp, so ill chceck on the issue. But anyways if the deleting of the img folder helps, but it gets recreated, maybe someone might try disabling the rights to write in the folder \img. So nothing would be created there. Its just an idea - might work but might aswell prevent the game from loading :D
But if it works its a one-time operation.

It was just a cmd window, it's nothing to worry about. You're going to have to be more specific about exactly what your problem is and which steps you've tried to resolve it before anyone can help you.

If you've managed to keep it from rebooting, go for logserver. The fan thing is a little weird, but if they're on an "auto" setting for speed you could be running hot for some reason.

You only need to delete the Img folder after you log in, not every time you jump into a system. It's only a temporary work around until the issue is resolved.
