Hi Folks. It might be worthwhile starting a thread on which missions are worth salvaging since some of them will drop hundreds of wrecks which will always yield no salvage.
So far, I have done two that never yield anything:
- Zazzmattaz lvl 4 - no salvage (20 minutes to clear) - Mordus Headhunters lvl 4 - no salvage (2-3 hours to clear ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Guristas Extra (L3) has some salvage, but lots of "nothing to salvage" messages - gave it up as too time consuming and just looted the bc wrecks and storage silo.
Salvaging = what a waste of time

Hehe, don't give up please, we want the rigs Come to irjunen, many high-end lvl 4 missionrunners here, that don't loot their missions. So if you can find wrecks with probes you have endless bs-wreck to salvage and don't have to kill anything yourself. If you cant find wrecks with scanner, ask some missionrunners to give you bookmarks of their missions, for a little fee they will, as they don't need it anyways. Doing missions and salvaging is maybe not so profitable, but if you specialize on salvaging so that you salvage bs all the time im sure you can make a lot of isk, expecially now, as everyone wants the rigs and noone sells

lvl 4 Stop the Thief -- No Salvage
What made it even worse was that it took several tries on almost all the wrecks to be told there was nothing to salvage.. This is with 1 salvager and lvl 3 salvaging skill. This was very disappointing after I had about 80% salvage rate on the little frigs in a roid belt.

- Stop the Thied: Yeilded no salavagable items
- The Assult: Yeilded some salvageable items but not as many as belt rates
As I do missions I will edit posts with my results
Also would be nice if a Dev or someone would replay to this post on if this is how they want salvaring to be, ie crap from mission runners and ok for belt hunters. In other words rigs will be very expensive and relativly rare at this rate because salvaging sucks. I'm an ! I will always be an ! that is all I have to say |

What I found out so far:
By flying Missions in Minmatar Space, I could only Salvage from Wrecks that where either from enemys flying minmatar (Gist/Angel) or gallente (serp) Ships. From 4 Missions with Caldary Ships (Mercs/Mordus) I didn't get a single Piece from Salvaging.... If it is what it looks like.., no chance to build amarr/ calda rigs here anytime cause the salvaged parts are also racial specific.
Thank you CCP for that Crap, cause the Loot also totaly sucks when 80% of all Wrecks don't even have "regular" Loot anymore.
ah, and btw: Wrecks from Drones and Buildings (Sentrys f.e.) do also not contain salvageable Stuff.

This is incorrect. I completed Mordus Headhunters and looted every single wreck. Every wreck had loot. Got that? EVERY can had loot. I collected 2800m3 of loot.
Has anyone tried to use the Salvage Tacks to see if they can draw salvage from wrecks that may otherwise not yield anything?

Well, here is what I have found so far. Merc have great loot but nothing to salvage. I have gotten salvage out of mission NPCs but those missions there were many wrecks with no loot or salvage but a few had salvage.
I think salvage is broken. Player ships will drop scrap metal even nothing else is salvagable, NPC ships should do the same.

I'm wondering if NPC's you can find at belts drop salvageble itmes and the NPC's you only find in Missions do not drop anything.
So I ask this people when salvaging have you received anything from say Merc's, any of the faction ie Ammar, Gal, Cal, Minmatar.
OR are you only getting salvageble items from an NPC that you might be able to find in a belt in some region? I'm an ! I will always be an ! that is all I have to say |

basically this can be summarized as - "open space mission" - belt npcs which only appear in belts and in missions near gate or station (and in certain missions that were removed anyway) - lots of salvage deadspace missions - crappy rats with reduced bounty and loot made specially for mission runners coz they face no risk - low chance of salvage from BS, basically next to no salvage.
although as now any folk with lvl3 in certain skill can warp to any mission runner, I don't see why not add salvage to all low sec mission npcs...

Worlds Collide (Guristas/Serpentis) and Vengeance (Guristas) both gave salvaged items. I'm going to start a thread with what I've picked up so far so people can see the relative rarity of items in an attempt to set pricing for them.
Of course I'd assum that salvaging BS wrecks be harder than frigates...anyone who's done any hacking/archaeology work will be well used to how the system works. ---

I beleive that skills affect how often you get the "You suck too much to salvage this time. Please try again." message, not whether there actually is or isn't salvage in the wreck.
Would perhaps be more interesting if every wreck had "X" number of salvage points, and if you could successfully salvage under that time, would get salvage, otherwise wouldn't. I don't believe it works this way right now, however.

I still think it depends on the Region / Fraction thingy
In Minma Space I still couldnt get any Salvage from any Caldary / Amarr Ship (NPC) but from those mixture Ships like Sansha's
and to the Question of the Dread Gurista Spawn: since u need Salvaging LvL 3 to salvage from a Tech II Ship (Wreck), I think it will be same with those "higher ranking" NPC's U might also have noticed that it takes longer to salvage from a "named" mission NPC or in Belt from the arch angels f.e.

This doesn't include the bonus mission since I didn't bother with it.
All in all, I'd prefer they change it so that it either finds something, or it pops the wreck. Give us additional skills to train to improve our odds. So far it seems, that Rogue drones, rogue pirates and merchenaries do not yeld any salvage. For a full day of doing lev 4 missions and salvaging them got around 60 gadgets. Looting and salvaging takes usually a bit more than doing the mission itself with destroyer with 4 tractors and 4 salvager modules.
It was in Caldary faction space.

As someone has suggested I think only NPC you can find in belt drop salvage.
So far Drones, Navy (froms different factions), Mercenaries, Mordu, named NPC, Core Admirals have given nothing to me, while Serpentis frigates and cruisers give a decent chance of salvage.
The true salvager : semi-afk miners in high sec belt with drone as defence. When you come with the industrial to recover the minerals from the jetcans you can recover the salvage from the killed rats. Usually a hour of mining in a 0.5-0.8 system means 3-6 killed rats. As they have a good chance of salvage that is 2-4 components. Ridicul but true.

Drones (missions and complexes), Gallente, Mercenaries;none of these drop loot, no matter where they are: belts, missions, complexes doesn't matter. It appears like ONLY player and pirate ships drop any components. Navy ships (all 4 races), mercs, drones and even Thukker ships don't seem to drop ANY components, EVER.
Furthermore, what components and what chance for each seems to be only linked to "type" of wreck you salvage (small/med/large) and not actual ship you salvage (i.e. the "name" of the wreck). Somehow, I get the feeling that "what you get" is computed upon succesfull salvage, not upon wreck creation, and it can be anything from none of the components up to all of the possible components. _____ -sig-

I ran "Whispers in the Dark" 4 of 4, a Level 2 storyline mission with about 40 different Sansha spawns that I killed using a frigate. With a skill of only Salvaging 1, but using 6 Salvage Units, I had more than a 50% success rate in salvaging, and netted the following items:
9 Contaminated Nanite Compounds 8 Defective Current Pumps 4 Armor Plates 3 Fried Interface Circuits 1 Burned Logic Circuit 1 Tripped Power Circuit and a Partridge in a Pear Tree.
Seriously, I would not be surprised to learn that certain spawns dropped more of a particular type of salvage item. It would be worthwhile seeing what specific items you got off specific type of NPCs. Also make sure you mention the number of Salvage Units you use as well as your skill. It will help detect patterns. |

On the Level 2 mission "The Seven's Brothel," I had the skill Salvaging 2 and used 6 Salvage Units on 8 wrecks of Seven-faction spacecraft (ie, mercenaries). While 6 of the 8 salvage attempts were ultimately successful, in every case, I was informed that there was no salvage material to be obtained.
The theory that mercenary NPCS do not yield salvage has not been disproven. I agree with others who suspect that there may be a bug in the drop rate for these NPCs. |

Good point. I am seeing very few sales of charred micro circuit and very few contaminated nanite compound sales.
Given that you need ~100 of them per BPO run, and prices are about 500k isk a unit you are going to be looking at one very expensive rig.

Lustre...any chance you could edit your post, just putting missions that can be salvaged first, missions that can't after...i.e.
Salvage;
1.... 2.... 3....
No salvage
1.... 2.... 3....
Just might make it easier to read ---

Drops quite nicely from 30% of loot. All the bs's and half the bcs dropped.
Anyone got any nice ship setups for salvaging?

DECEMBER 5 POST PATCH SALVAGE ATTEMPT:
On the Level 2 mission "Smuggler Interception" (which may be a new mission, since I have never run it previously, and since it does not appear on www.eveinfo.com), I had the skill Salvaging 3 and used 6 Salvage Units on 18 wrecks of Sansha pirate spacecraft.
While 0 attempts were outright failures, 11 were successful salvage attempts that yielded no materials. However, there were 7 successful salvage attempts which yielded the following items:
2 Armor Plates 2 Contaminated Nanite Compounds 1 Charred Micro Circuit 1 Defective Current Pump 1 Tripped Power Circuit
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
CONCLUSION:
Score yet another one for salvaging pirate wrecks. However, the patch is a serious disappointment. Other than a cosmetic change that shows which wrecks have been looted, there appears to be no discernible improvement to salvaging overall. The salvage system as-is is still a tedious bore - it took roughly 4 times as long to salvage the wrecks as it did to complete the mission. Moreover, the drop rate for salvage materials is appallingly low. The price of rig BPOs indicates that these are supposed to be common enhancements - as do rig slots on T1 ships - but the drop rate simply won't be able to meet the supply required to make that a reality.
SUGGESTIONS:
1) Increase the salvage material drop rate 2) Create a single command that loots and activates all Salvage Units at one time. This will eliminate about 4-10 mouseclicks for each wreck to be salvaged. 3) Do not spawn a wreck if there is no loot inside and no chance to salvage any materials from it. You never used to spawn empty jet cans after a ship exploded - why spawn a wreck if there's nothing inside it?

Before Revelations, ships didn't drop empty cans. With Revelations there shouldn't be all these wrecks that have no loot and no salvage.. they are just time sinks.

Guristas Extravaganza level 4 - 50 or so items of salvage, including the bonus stage (I have salvage to level 4)...bear in mind that's only 10 or so items per waypoint, so not exactly wonderful.
I think there's a need to look deeper into this...structures NEVER seem to give salvage...maybe we should start recording what we get from the actual named wreck? Guristas seem to heavily favour Scorched Telemetry Processors and Malfunctioning Shield Emitters...I'm 100% certain there's a racial bias to what you get.
Sounds like it's spreadsheet time again! ---

lvl 4 Storyline "Shipyard Theft" 1 Tractor, One Salvager, Salvaging lvl 1, at least 3 hours start to finish. Used Domi for combat, looting and salvaging. slightly more than a full load of loot ie 650 m3
29 parts of which several were intact versions. Drops were from all types and sizes of ship, Some 1 mill plus bounty BS dropped neither loot or salvage Some Elite frigs dropped both, as did the lowly Catalyst soldiers. Tried the structure wrecks but just kept on cycling with no end so aborted after 5 minutes.

On the Level 2 mission "Seek and Destroy," I had the skill Salvaging 3 and used 6 Salvage Units on 5 wrecks of Guristas pirate spacecraft.
While 0 attempts were outright failures, 4 were successful salvage attempts that yielded no materials. However, there was 1 successful salvage attempts which yielded the following item:
1 Malfunctioning Shield Emitter
Look more and more likely that Guristas spawn more of the Shield-related gear, which makes sense. However, I still object to the idea of successfully salvaging yet receiving no salvage materials. Wrecks should not spawn if there is no chance of successfully salvaging from them. |

On the Level 2 mission "Save a Man's Career," I had the skill Salvaging 3 and used 6 Salvage Units on wrecks of 6 Rogue Drones, 1 Cargo Rig, and 1 Mercenary spacecraft.
While 0 attempts were outright failures, ALL 8 were successful salvage attempts that yielded no materials.
I am inclined to believe that Drones, at least, are still not dropping anything, and that the loot tables are still not fixed. Not good. |

3 Malfunctioning Shield Emitters 3 Scorched Telemetry Processors
This offers yet another confirmation that pirate factions generate at least some salvage, though still a meager amount if salvaging is to be a satisfying newbie profession and if rigs are to ever become the commonplace, newbie-friendly items they appeared to be during the design process. |

Actually, I click all 6 units so that they are working at the same time, and in the vast majority of instances where I eventually get a salvage item, the first notice I get is that the salvage attempt was a failure - then I guess one of the other units saves the day and gets a successful salvage. I do get some successes on the first try, but I'd say it's only about 10% of the time I get any salvage materials, and certainly less than 5% out of all the wrecks I salvage. |

OK cool had ot say something because as long as you leave the modual on you will eventually get a succesfull salvage. Don't need to have all 5 moduals on one wreak.
My suggestion for time would be to get as many tractor beams as salvages, have oen of each one as many wreaks have your have. If you have only one wreak than sure by all means 5 slavages. Just telling you because you will not get more materials for having 5 modsuals on one wreak. You just salvage the wreak sooner.

Blockade lvl 2 vs Gurista. Salvage lvl 3 2 salvagers. 23 mixed items - shield emitters plus a few circuits
Eliminate pirate nuisance lvl 2 vs Sansha. Salvage lvl 3 2 salvagers. 9 items - contaminited nanites and defective current pumps.
I have salvaged earlier missions and not kept such a close score, however I do agree that:
a) belt type rats ie Sansha, Gurista, blood raider, angel and serpentis give salvage in missions.
b) mercs, faction navies, drone and named mission villians ("the thief" "shadow") and their escorts/goons do not give salvage. However I do find they give slightly better loot.
Salvage seems to be faction specific and logical.
Sanshas give armour, nanites and laser components. Guristas seem to give missile and shiled components.
Both give circuits but in smaller numbers, Gurista seem to be slightly more generous with circuits than sansha but his might be due to luck as the number of missions is small.

As per my blog recently, almost 500 entities were missing salvage, and I have been adding it to them in the past weeks. And all those that are in these missions should be dropping salvage as of next patch. Thus this list will have to be recompiled after the patch, and I believe the number of missions on it will be drastically lower, if there will be any missions on the list at all. But definetly keep us posted on that after the patch.
