This new wreck system is quite poorly executed, what changes are happening to it and when are they due?

Tuesday last i checked.
Noticeable changes to wrecks to identify if they have been looted. Tractorable wrecks Reduced skills to use salvage modules
they're the only ones i can remember.

Edited by: Artemis Aeneas on 30/11/2006 22:20:35 The fact that you have to check each one, no indication of ones youve already checked or whether they're yours. That if you don't want to salvage them you cant make them autopop.

Flying around to 30-50 wrecks to check for the 4 or 5 that have loot makes the pandas sad. Wrecks with real loot should give some sort of outward indication that there is real loot there. Running kill missions now totally sucks compared to before.

They desperately need to implement letting you filter out looted wrecks from your overview.

Just to sum up:
-- Need a way to tell if a wreck has any lootable items in it from far away -- Need a way to remove looted wrecks from overview -- Need a way to have a wreck automatically close, unlock itself, or self-destruct once you've looted it -- Drones need to be able to attack wrecks
From a PvE mission runner's perspective, wrecks have made me not want to play the game anymore ... I'm anxiously waiting to see what changes they will make. Even if they change 1 or 2 small things, I'm really afraid the looting system will still be even more cumbersome than it was prepatch ...
And I agree ... This does make the pandas sad :(

im sorry arn't all wrecks loot?
you loot the easy stuff, then you loot the salvagable stuff. no more wreck no more problem.
of course if you can't be bothered to learn the skills to finish the looting equation then thats your own problem. the loot will stay there for someone that has :)
me i'll be working on survey 5 tonight after work.

One posible solution: I noticed that mission specific loot (the special item you need to bring back to the agent) is dropped in cans, why not just let all "regular" loot drop in cans and let the wreks have only the salvage loot in them.

You obviously haven't ran a mission with a Mission Objective like Marines you need to loot..You spend more time checking out wrecks than you did killing them all.
Loot cans for loot. Wrecks for salvaging.

Let me understand, you think it is a cool game mechanic to spend 30+ minutes looking through dozens of wrecks and keeping track of the ones you looked at (Or blowing the wreckage up) to get loot from destroyed ships? It now takes longer to look through wreckage of 30 ships then it does to kill those 30 ships in the first place.
Yay for tedium. No doubt your post led to the horrific death of a sad panda somewhere in china.

Edited by: Simpler Plan on 01/12/2006 05:20:03 i agree that a chance to the wrecks is important. because of wrecks i am discourage to run my missions in fear of loosing good loot which i need for several reasons ;-/
there has to be some kind of indication which wreck has loot. or perhaps a better idea: Have the ships leave a wreck of the ship and a cargo containter with its loot in it at the same time?

Solutions for Wreck Whiners:
a) blow up the wreck after you've checked it for loot b) learn the salvage skill c) form gang with yourself and use the tag item option.
It's not rocket science.

No I think its a cool game mechanic that wrecks drop. And to find what is inside of them you have to look. I'm very glad that I have to look in the first place. And even more glad that there is no neon sign over the ones that have loot in them. Boo-hoo, you have to look through things? What make choices? Thats a GREAT game mechanic. Jebus look at the mission w4ores whine. Adapt or die. Evidently its easier to whine than to adapt for you.

I haven't tried yet, but I would assume that you can also use cargo scanners on them?
I'm not disagreeing though. No matter how many workarounds you can come up with, being able to see which wrecks contain lootable items is always easier than not. |

Of course you could leave the wrecks there for salvagers to salvage. Then they can build rigs faster. Which you can buy and fit on your ships.
Of course the deadspace stuff you can blow up but remember scan probes are very easy to use now so we will likely find that too.

Not that hard? Just a few more bullets for option a)

However the low yield of rigg parts from salvaging will make riggs a costly affair imho.

Other than what they will be changing on Tuesday... The only thing I don't like about the FUNCTIONALITY of the wrecks is the fact that when you open the window to loot the wreck and then loot the contents, the window remains open. Why would I need an open window with nothing in it? Make it similar to before when you popped a can, the window with the contents inside would automatically close. That will make it the same as before, leaving only the wreck to be dealt with by a salvager.

Look at the name of the wreck. Marines are in transporters, so look for the transporter wreck.

all the flamers on this topic are completely missing the point - on a standard mission where you may have to take down upwards of 30+ ships ur left with that many wrecks scattered quite often across a very wide area of space - it could take quite a while just to loot cans but NOW we spend time going to loot wrecks sometimes to find there is nothing to loot - and as for learning the skills for salvaging - wtf???? mechanic 5 survey 5 so you can then learn salvage 1 ? - that might not be a problem for all you veterans in the game but for newer players thats not even slightly funny - getting those skills sorted would take approx 2 weeks to train - just so u stand a better chance of getting *some* loot?
ppl are moaning and with good reason i think
