Edited by: Niko Succorso on 26/01/2007 02:31:34 This is my mission setup. It's fairly effective.
6x 720mm Howitzer II 2x Arbalest Assault Launchers
2x Tracking Computer II 10MN Afterburner II Sensor Booster
Medium Armour Repairer II Reaction Control Unit 2x Gyrostabiliser II 2x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane
4 light drones, 1 medium (I think; I know it has five drones, using all the capacity)
How it works:
Warp in to the mission. Turn and burn away from the rats, preferably aligned to something safe (not a moon). Activate tracking computers and sensor booster, priority is enemy frigates. Tap F1-F6 until there are no more frigates. If anything gets close, sic the drones on them. Then just pop everything else.
I find by keeping my range over 50km, I can achieve perfectly reasonable hits with depleted uranium while sustaining minimal damage. Anything closer just gets to find out how much more effective your turrets are as they come into optimal range.
The Hurricane is the uber-Rupture. It has more slots, more guns, and the combination of damage and ROF boni means you hit hard and often. I like it a lot.
Disclaimer:
I use this for level 3 missions, primarily Angels. Most missions are perfectly easy to accomplish, as long as you manage your aggro and range. Portal To War part 2 is tricky, as is Mordus Headhunters, but both can be done as long as you are careful - and ready to run.
EDIT:
For my next trick, I'm saving for a second Hurricane to load out for PVP. Donations gratefully accepted

I rarely even have to turn on my hardeners, and almost never my MAR II. The Hurricane is an ARMOR tank not a shield tank. The 6 low slots sold me on the armor tank, I don't know about anyone else. It has really good natural shield resistance and recharge rate. I can do level 3's all day with my eyes closed.
Close to my setup. For L3's this setup owns - zero issues (well only one 2 warp outs on Mordus mission, but that is me, not the Cane...)

Edited by: WeaverSpyder on 26/01/2007 07:42:06 Mine is a bit like the one two post up. Is it made for mission:
HIGH ------------ 6x 720 t2 loaded with titanium round 2x assault with watever light missile you want
MED ------------ Shield extender t2 shield booster t2 invulnerability field t2 10mn aft t2
LOW ------------ RCU t1 PDU t2 gyrostab t2 trackin ehancer t2 damage control t2 balistic control t1
RIG ------------ Projectile metastasis adjuster 1
THis setup use the 720 t2 to its maximum advantage. My dead zone is about 5 to 40 click and i manage to kill the most robust frig with ease, about 3 to 4 shot. DPS are around 20 for each gun (yes, 180 DPS for the ship, it is better than my tempest fitted with 1400 !!!)
the stat for the gun are about: dam multp, around x14 tracking, around .036
I tank with shield because i want to blast the rat before they can do serious damage, so this setup is for max damage, with a bit of tanking if something goes wrong. it is not intended as a primary tank and i know it.
Wish that will help

Edited by: Niko Succorso on 27/01/2007 04:29:15 I must disagree with that. Only one gyro? You can easily fit two, leaving four low slots for an armour tank, or if you really want to push it go for three gyros, med repper, two hardeners. The short way of "fixing" that setup would be to swap the BCU for a gyro - I'd much rather have a second gyro to boost six tech two cannons than a BCU to help a pair of asssault launchers.
Also, the lack of active tracking computers means your optimal range is reduced, decreasing accuracy and hence the odds of a hit on distant targets.
I used to shield tank myself, but having switched to an armour tank, I find I get more bang for my buck - less time in missions, less time for the rats to chew me up, greater range so what they do hit with is minimised. The greatest threat tends to be missile barrages. Most missions I don't even have to touch my repper.
I have a 5% medium projectile damage implant, and Battlecruiser IV, and the last time I checked I think I was clocking something like 247 DPS.

Currently I use the following fighting Angels:
Highs: 6x 425mm AC (Use prototype or T2 -- Gallium work until you get the money) 2x Med Nos (Use T2 or Named)
Meds: 1x 10MN AB (T2 or Named) 3x Cap Recharger I (T2 is just too expensive)
Lows: 1x Med Armor Rep - I use T1 because it works fine. 2x N-Type Explosive (Or other active hardener) 1x N-Type Kinetic (Or other active hardener) 2x Gyro (T2 or Counterbalanced)
This works perfectly fine. If you use Artillery, you're going to have problems with the bigger BS spawns. I can take every angel and domination spawn in the area without problems. The key is speed tanking. I set my orbit at 1850, and it keeps me moving at about 400 m/s and the bs I am currently fighting can't even hit me. The problem I have sometimes is if I get 3 domination spawns lobbing missiles at me. I have to warp out with arch angel spawns too sometimes due to the webbers.
Currently I do fine, and I use all T1 equipment, so if you can use T2, this is a great alternative to flying a BS if you're in hostile space.

This is very close from my level 3 missions setup, in caldari space (which means will all that missile spamming and jamming which hurts, non gurista missions are usually a breeze :)). [-Highs-] 6x 720 T2, usually loaded with depleted uranium (proton for blood/sanshas, longer range if I need to). 2x Arbalest heavy missile launchers
[-Meds-] 10MN ABII Sensor Booster II 2x Tracking computer II
[-Lows-] MARII RCUII EANMII 2x rat specific hardeners 1x Gyro II
[-Drones-] 4 lights and 1 meds (T2). Don't swap them for rats, so full kinetic drones as mainly guristas.
Most of the missions I don't even need the rep, and often I don't even keep my range near 50km, as I kill them fast enough not to bother ;) There's only on second stage of rogue slave trader part 2, where you get in right in the middle of the blood base, where you need to get some range right away, and not wait too long before killing them (you won't sustain their damage forever ;)). I never bother to align, as it's really not needed in L3s with that (and the tank is too low imho to decently get to L4s without much tweaking).
Was planning in putting there one grid rig, one range rig, and one rof rig ;) (the grid rig being to be able to fit the other two of course). Maybe drop one rat specific hardener for another Gyro II for even more damage as well.

One will find out that Ratting with AC is not a good idea, ammo wise.
Lv4 Missioning with passive shield tank is almost impossible. And a PDS in low is a wise choice. Have tried shield recharge rigs but dunno if the resist rigs will be better. At least resist rig make you get rid of invu field and maybe a PDS thus become totally cap-free.

I'm going to test this on Sansha soon (ie: once i righted my bank balance)
6x 425mm autocannons (might get tec 2 in time) 1x heavy missile launcher 1x nos
2x cap recharger (f-b10) 1x web 1x AB
1x MAR 2x therm hardeners 1x EM hardener 2x gyro
All runs forever, planning on orbitting at 7500m, hope the tracking works, if not i'll use dual 220mm

might dump the web for a tracking disruptor though, so as to be hit less by those turrets, but as sansha rats use turrets and missiles, it might be useless.

Edited by: Peanut Swsh on 19/04/2007 15:21:57 i use for 0.0 guristas ratting:
6 x 220mm AC's 2 x HAM Launchers
1 x 10mn MWD 2 x Active Shield Hardeners 1 x Large Shield Extender
3 x Gyrostabilizer 2 x Shield Power Relays 1 x Power Diagnostic System
2 x Medium Scout Drones 2 x Light Scout Drones
Drones mean you don't have to chase around frigs/cruisers.
Doesn't tank as well as a drake, but kills a lot faster, and isk/time is what i'm interested in.
Would be interested in switching out the 220s for 425s, seeing as i don't really have to deal with targets which are difficult to track... any comments?

Edited by: Zalathar on 20/04/2007 07:31:39 i was also thinking of this, for hardcore tanking, but it might be a bit overdone:
6x 425mm 2x nos
3x eutetics (f-b10s might work too) 1x AB
2x MAR II 3x rat specific active hardeners 1x CPR
all active modules run for ever with decent capacitor skills
tanks a base of 333.33... damage, then with low sig and high speed the damage taken is reduced. i can get its dps up to around 260 counting drones, which might take a while to kill things, but you will probably be able to tank 3 elite faction battleships without breaking much of a sweat.
enjoy!

the only thing which rarely gave me troubles were nossing bses^^
This is the same setup (all T1) I use for ratting 0.0 Serpentis except I just dropped in a MWD. Can easily take down 2x 1.2mil BS spawns. I'm not sure why people are wasting DPS by putting NOS in. The repper can run (along with the hardeners/web) for several minutes before cap is drained. The key for ACs is to orbit close to one BS. I normally set orbit for 1000 (ends up being 1.2k or so) and very rarely get hit by that BS. Drones are sent out to rip up any frigates around. It might be inefficient with ammo, but I get mine from corp so... :P
I'm not sure what exactly is fast for taking down a BS, but my Hurricane does most in 1-2 minutes. This seems fast to me because before I was doing it in a Rupture.

6*650mm artys 2*heavy launcher
2*tracking comp 2*cap recharger II
3*hardener (1*em, 2*therm) 2*gyro II 1*mar II
does its job very well and if i need speed in a mission, i replace a tracking comp with either an ab or mwd.

My first ry at a Hurricane ratter turned out to be an utter failure. I tried to armor tank it and I found that what I ended up with was a cap hungry low dps p.o.s. Enter a corpie who says to passive shield tank it, so I give it a go, can't be any worse than what I had. Here is the result.
HI 5X 425mm AC's (best named you can get) 2X HAMS 1X Prototype Cloak (the convenience of being able to ss cloak or go afk briefly is worth giving up some dps to me)
MID 2X Large Shield Ext (named if you can get them) 2X rat specific hardeners (exp and kin for Angels)
LOW 2X shield power relay 3X gyros 1X tracking enhancer
With my skill a setup ths is about 9500 shields with a recharge of 640 sec. Sure the 2 shield power relays kill the cap charging, but with only 2 shield hardeners running all the rats are dead before you use a 3rd of your cap. I don't know how to calculate dps and al that, but I do know that this setup with 3 gyros dishes it out much faster than my armor tank setup. No problems wih any rats yet as far as tanking or killing them.

I just got a Hurricane (corp had a bpc lying about, and I'm one of the only Minmitars)..
I've been using a Drake for lvl3 missions: H - 7 x heavy launchers (named) M - 2 x T2 Large Ext, T2 Kinetic, Thermal, Exp amps, T2 Shield Recharger L - 4 x T2 Shield Power Relay Works a charm for everything I've done except Blockade lvl 3..
Wondering about a Hurricane ratting setup for 0.0 (Angels) vs the Drake, but armour tanking feels so wrong...
I was wondering about the following (budget setup): H - 6 x 425's (named), 2 x HAM's (named) M - 2 x Large Ext (named or T2), Invuln field (named or T2), Shield Recharger (named or T2) L - 2 x shield power relay, 1 x cap power relay, 1 x Medium repper, 1 x Damage Control, 1 x Tracking Enhancer
Any thoughts?

I havent finished training up minmatar cruiser yet, but for ratting and maybe a limited pvp setup (i.e. not being just a fat target if i got jumped in a belt) i was thinking-
highs- 6 220mm scout salvager nos
med- 1 or 2 cap rechargerII AB/MWD tracking disrupt named tracking computer
lows-
marII 2x gyroII t2 kin hardener t2 therm hardener eanmII
3x CCC I rigs
drones to suit
the rigs make running everything sustainable without a booster or nos. this setup would be for ratting serpentis so id probably be using phased plasma m or emp m, which gives pretty good dps with autos (although with a 2 sec rof on the guns itll chew through ammo just as fast as it will the rats).
i currently use a harbinger, and fit the same tank on it, except i have to use a cpr on it to make it sustainable. if need be i figure i can pull a gyrostab off and put an eanmII on for more tank if needed. Meatwad FTW |

Well i'm guessing that having BC Level 5 makes a massive difference with this ship, nice that i have it then.
Short range,
6 x 425mm 2 x Med Nos
1 x Web 1 x T2 cap recharger 1 x Afterburner 1 x Tracking Cpu T2
2 x Armour reps T2 4 x Racial Hardeners Active of course.
I Do Level 3 missions with just 1 armour repper running constantly, seems fine, i only use the secound one if i really have to , but that hasn't happened yet.

I do not use the Hurricane for short range but about the above fit , if your not using the 2 Armor Rep only 1 and using this for level level 3 missions I would suggest the following.
Drop 1 Armor Rep Drop the EM Hardener unless you are doing a Mission where you are getting spammed by EM Since this is for missions drop 1 of the other 3 Hardeners unless you are doing something where all damage types are being used against you.
Add at least 1 if not 2 if slots are available in the Lowers modules from the Gryostabalizer Family.
I though do long range as a rule in Missions , that Means
Highs - Six - 720's ( I use Scouts) , One Heavy Missile (Extra Damage) , One Drone Augment (Drone Range)
Middle - Sensor Booster (Tech 2 if you can for reduced Cap cost) , AB (Republic Faction for reduced cost of Cap if possible or Tech 2 if skilled) , I use 2 Cap Recharges but you can move things around a bit if you like and put a Tracking Computer here with 1 Cap Recharge , its probably something i should do at this point given current skills.
Lows - Medium Armor Rep , Reserve at least 2 slots for Armor Hardeners depending on the mission damge type you are facing, Gyro in at least one slot , that leave you 2 slots which on my ship Hurricane has been normally a 2nd Gyro and a tracking enhancer , but I should probably put a Cap Power Relay down here and open one of the middles for a Tracking computer and just make sure that I put as many Gyros on the ship that it will fit up to 3.

I agree, if you are ratting in 0.0 use the PVP setups, its pointless not to. When that neutral enters the system at least you dont have a weak point.
For all of you "I wouldnt use minmatar for ratting" Are you sensless? Minmatar guns deal ALL damage types, looking at hybrids and energy weapons, i only see 2 x damage types....so....well.....i guess you guys r suckin :P Go post in your ship specific forum pages and stay out of mine!
6 x 220mm Vulcan Cannon II Rule any ships, and to get close enough on ranged ships use a Tech II MWD for that. BS get ripped apart in a short time, and with that webber, i dont see even the hardest interceptor lasting but a volley or two.

3x Gyro II (or Counterbalanced Weapon Mounts I works too) 2x PDU 1x DCU II
Comments: Works just fine. Maybe the only problem is that it doesn't deal well to prolonged stress, so make sure you kill as soon as you see the rats. Can't think of any other problems I've had, unless you count "Out killing the spawn rate" a problem.

Highs

Med
1 X Cap Booster 1 X MWD or AB (depending on grid left) 1 X Cap Batt 1 X Web
Lows
1 X MAR T2 1 GYRO T2 2 X N-Type thermic 1 X N-Type em 1 X 800 tungsten plate
I can tank 3 top BS spawns with 2 BC spawns. I have tried most of the variation of fittings that have been placed here, For ME this is the best set up against TS. You really need to manage your cap well or you will die quick, I've gone for best named stuff where i can. The ammo you only use is EMP not PP. Just use Hob gob drones for your thermal dmg. What you need to do is approach them at 0m, aggro early so you can get your drones out to make a start MWD or AB right up to them. Loot the wrecks for more cap booster 200,400,800 any will do. Kill bs first. I dont know about other factions but against TS this works. I dont want to load it full of T2. Hopefully it will help people starting the game. cause not every1 can use T2 or have the skill, money for those set ups.

If you can substain a tank, why do you use the 800 plate?
It makes you slower, and you could use that slot for a gyrostab tech 2 for another ~20% damage boost. Ditch it, and rat faster.
