Main differents with cans is that every ship drops them regardless if they contain loot. Second difference is that they stay until you shoot them or salvage them.
If at least we could get a second type of wrecks, like "looted wreck" telling us if we checked it already. This would IMHO be even better then to name wrecks. After all wrecks have the benefit that you know with ship it was and mission sensitive cargo is dropped in a seperate can. In the end there are not only drawbacks for non-salvagers but let's face it warp to 0 is for faster travel and a smoother game experience but wrecks, for those how loot them, eat alot of playing time.

The devs have said they are working on it and hope to have something in tomorrow's patch. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Tomorrow's patch just changes the default indication for criminal flagging which, at least when I tested it, does nothing for the owner of the wreck.
Additionally just marking looted/unlooted cans, which is what they have said "they are looking into" is just not good enough. In fact it's useless, you can just gang with yourself and tag the looted wrecks.
In order to make looting (without salvaging) any good again, we need a emtpy/contains loot, marking. Otherwise the looter has to open and check all the wrecks and most of them are empty. ________________

I'd /sign for that, I reckon.
Same functionality, but better that cans ever were. That would be the ideal solution for keeping all parties happy.

If you took the time to read the dev notes in the "EVE Information Portal", or any of the 100+ other treads on wreaks you would have found out that this has already been noted and a fix is on it's way. Tomorrow in fact.

If you actually knew what you are reading, including what I have repeated in 100 other threads you would know that:
The color coding will not tell you if there is loot in the can or not, it will only tell you if it is criminally flagged or not, which indicates to other players, not the owner if the wreck has already been looted. This feature is not even new, it's already there, all they are doing is turning it on (actually turning the 'just for ships' setting off) by default.
Devs said they are 'looking into' having a different icon for 'looted' wrecks but that: a. Is not coming tomorrow b. Will not tell you if there is loot or not in the wreck until you actually loot the wreck.
Edit for patch notes update in the last couple of hours: The looted/not looted icon will be in tomorrow. Still nothing on the has/does not have loot so all that really does for looters is take away the need to gang with yourself and tag the looted cans. ________________
