Todays piece is called "The History of Flight". There's no blood, no murder, no horrible mutilations of any kind, and no Fedo suckling. It's simply a nice story, partly about the burdens of parenthood, and partly about the limitations we put on ourselves. Unfortunately we can't supply a picture with this piece, but we hope that won't significantly lessen your enjoyment.

Aww, this one's sweet. A nice change of pace from the recent Chrons, and it's kind of nice to see a "homely" scene in EVE for once as well. Well done, Brax. One question though, was the couple features Gallente or Caldari? "Aki" sounds like a Caldari name, but the other two were decidedly European, I.E. Gallente.
Oh, once again, is there an email address I can bug you at? There's something I'd like to ask that I shouldn't clutter the forums up with. --- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?...

Kudos for a pleasant read for a change.
Why do some people hop on Teamspeak or Vent and gatecamp for ten hours and call it a good time? Why do pirates lose five ships in a day, go to sleep with a smile on their face, and come back the next day, ready to go? Why are mining ops with five of your friends fun? Why do empire, low-sec, and 0.0 feel different?
That's the "why" I got out of it; but I enjoy reading D1ckinson, and disparaging things have been said as to my sanity.

You silly people, this isn't a Chronicle! It's an explanation by CCP as to why drones are getting crazier and crazier each patch! The whining baby symbolizes the EVE playerbase, and the adults symbolize CCP, who after being sleep deprived and overworked by the playerbase (whining baby), finally broke the gap and realized that their time is better spent frolicking and dancing! Also, it tells us that crazy drone behavior is a feature, not a bug!
Yay, do I win EVE now?

Nice story, BTW.

The Backstory link in the tab on your left holds all the background material, chronicles included. They're in reverse chronological order, the most recent ones listed at the top.
Originally by: SpaceDrake Taleweaver One question though, was the couple featured Gallente or Caldari? "Aki" sounds like a Caldari name, but the other two were decidedly European, I.E. Gallente.
To be honest, it doesn't really matter to me. Their races weren't relevant to the story, and I chose their names based on different, non-EVE criteria. (With the trillions of people who're part of each race, names alone don't necessarily have to indicate race. They can, but it's not an ironclad rule.)
I'm not a big proponent of racial personalities, i.e. having only the Gallente act like human beings, forcing all Amarrians to be zealots, and so on. If race matters within the context of the story, I'll include it - "Postnatal" would be a rather poor showing if it had revolved around, say, a Caldarian joining a Gallente sect rather than a Minmatar joining an Amarrian one - but if it doesn't, I tend to leave it out.

Beautiful little story, it is layered i think. While it may not appeal to the borderline psychotic unwashed majority of the EvE populace, i shure hope this sets a trend. However, I still think EvE needs more and better tactical warning sounds.

Consider your early stories.

As a teeny addendum to this, "The Crystal Boulevard" is best read after "Dam-Torsad". TCB is something of a response to D-T, although an intermediate piece I wrote originally as fanfiction (TCB started life as a fanfic of mine) is missing. Still, for the author's perspective, "Dam-Torsad" first, "Crystal Boulevard" second.
Quote:

Touche. I personally do like to try and stick at least vaguely close to the established "culture" behind each race (a lot of work went into that!) but between the bizzare mishmash of the original colonization of EVE and the century or so of interstellar crossover we've had since the various wars ended, names could easily blend a bit.
Quote: I'm not a big proponent of racial personalities, i.e. having only the Gallente act like human beings, forcing all Amarrians to be zealots, and so on. Well, here we disagree, a teeny bit. As I said, the racial cultures are fairly prominent, especially when the contrast is so stark (like Amarr vs. Gallente, I suspect you know how much I love that particular comparison. ) I mean, in this piece it doesn't matter too much, yeah, but whenever I write an EVE piece I do try to match the cultures up somewhat and let the cultures inform the characters and situations.
(I do try and write everyone as human, though. In a very recent Amarr-centric piece I wrote, there WAS a ultra-zealous Amarrian Paladin, but his intensity intimidated even other Amarrians.)
Quote: I see CCPers aren't the only ones who're sleep-deprived. And I'm not letting anyone within ten feet of me who talks about breaking my gap.
... man I'm just not going there on so many levels. Though due to various circumstances (see yonder thread) I've only gotten about six hours of sleep in the past... 40, and climbing. There are times when nervous energy sucks.
Anyway, thanks for replying to me so quickly elsewhere, Brax. I may write you through that channel again in the future, if that's alright.
So, uh, hamsters next Monday, aye? --- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?...

But yes, it does seem a little bit related to the latest batch of 'rogue' tame drones.

Well, it is kind of what we've come to expect, and even if you take the story out of context, Matin's concerns and the increasingly erratic behavior of the drones do give one a sense of foreboding. It kind of distracted me from the point of the story until I realized that the they weren't actually going to go rogue, but then again, as one might guess from my previous post, I worry about kids a lot. :)

This one was really well done and hits close to home.
As an unmarried dad, my 5 month old son means the entire world to me. I was pleasently surprised how this story really captures what alot of "single" dads go through in terms of feelings.
My little boy loves being held and hates to be put down sometimes, my arms are sore from hours of holding him but if you're a dad too you know that you wouldn't want to do anything else. =)
I'll be bookmarking this story.
