Using current buy order prices of approximately 375k ISK per component piece, the base material cost for one grid rig comes out to approximately 264m ISK. Do the devs actually want us to use rigs sometime this decade? The drop rates are ridiculously low to make rigs even remotely practical to fit on a BS, much less cruisers or frigs.
I think that the drop rates for rig parts are fine, just reduce the number of pieces required to make a rig. By about 90-95% of current. 2-10m ISK per rig retail price should be reasonable for T1 rigs, with T2 rigs being higher of course. Otherwise they're just too expensive to use. FFS, I can fit my BS out with all faction mods for less than what it would cost me to put on 3 rigs right now.

The sheer manhours required to get the number of units of salvage materials will ensure that the prices continue to remain extremely high. Right will be unreasonably expensive IMO if teh build requirements arn't reduced by 90-95%.

An "implant" for your ship, that gives 10% to 30% gain in a specific area, and you want it cheap? Ill trade a set of shield rigs for a crystal implant set, but ill be darned if i'm gonna spend my time salvaging and building rigs just to sell for some lame low price to please the lazy people.

odds are the uber-prices won't last too terribly long. I just flew 2 level 4 missions, wound up salvaging over 50 components from them, with salvage only at level 2. As more people take up salvaging, more components will come onto the market, and preice will fall...just give it time.

lets say that the devs lower the requirements so they cost about 20-25 mil a piece which is probally what people are wanting.
then its a requirement and people will complain like they do with t2 stuff that its required and they "cant win" with out it

Edited by: CharlieMurphy on 06/12/2006 06:56:34 i bought a condor today and it cost me 26000 isk and change i was wondering which 3 rigs i should use on my new ship
it seems obvious to me that rigs need to come in sizes, 1 for each ship class with less bits needed for the smaller rigs if ccp do it quickly eg. b4 the end of the week they wont annoy lots and lots of people because nobody has a rig yet (probably)
thinking about it there no way that anybody will ever seriously fit 3 rigs at any price they are likely to reach on a frigate so if we arnt going to get different size rigs they migth aswell just take the rig slots off frigates
Edit:unless of course rigs are supposed to cost about 10k each and we all got tricked into training the skills for salvage

miss overload consider the time involved in actually collecting the bits for rigs how low will the price drop you think ? what is the value of people time?
be interesting if somebody clever could do the maths and work out what a rig bpo at me20 costs to make

Ratting top level BSs in 0.0 (1.8m+ bounties) gives 2-4 components on avg. per wreck. Assuming I get exactly the components I need (highly unlikely) I'm looking at having to kill 300+ BS rats before I can make *one* rig. The pure man-hours that it takes to accomplish this is ridiculous.
Time is the single most expensive thing in Eve. If the time element isn't reduced, the prices won't decrease.

as skills and a t2 version go in prices should drop - the factor atm is ppl with low salvage skills tkaing longer to harvest said rig stuff

No, its not the time to salvage. It's the time to generate the wrecks to produce the salvage.

You may salvage tons, but how many of those salvaged components are the actual "critical" components that you need. I can salvage tons of lesser components, but the ones you really need, I might get 1 or 2 per level 3 mission.

Think about it People.
#1 Eve needs a Isk siphon. #2.CCP sells time Codes. #3.People buy timecodes for ISK. #4.Isk is used to buy Rigs #5.Win Win for CCP = Good Business/High Real Cash Profit.

Look, you cant complain about something being "hard" to create or "expensive" to buy. Thats just rediculous.
To me, it makes perfect sense that rigs are rare and somewhat expensive. But note, no-one can monopolise the production of them.
You may have expected something more abundant, but it isnt. So please. Adapt and adjust.

Looks like rigs are supposed to be about teamwork. You know, one killer and one salvager flying after him. They're not supposed to be a solo profession. One person may need a rediculous amount of time to build a rig, but many people together can build them faster for sure. Like a corp.

Time is the single most expensive thing in Eve. If the time element isn't reduced, the prices won't decrease.
What I am about to say is totally right and it will end much of this dispute:
For most people who already loot, salvaging will become a typical part of their npcing/mission running they do. As more and more people salvage, more and more rig items will be on the market. Right now there are barely any rig components on the market compared to how many there will be in the future. T1 Rigs, unlike T2 items, cannot be controlled. There more players there are, the more players there will be getting rig components.
Here is the critical point: You cant say it takes 40 man hours to make one rig because the in many cases, much of the time you use gathering the rig parts is not spent only gathering the rigs, but doing what you ALREADY WOOULD HAVE BEEN DOING (aka ratting/mission running/pvping).
I estimate tech 1 rigs will cost between 15-40 million isk each once prices stabilize.
