To me, Eve is kind of a hangout place. I have been gaming with some of the people in my corp for upwards of around 7 years so we all know each-other pretty well. It's pretty much a glorified chatroom for old friends.
Hell even when we're out on ops we're talking smack to each-other. We don't usually talk smack to the enemy...we save it for ourselves!

The EvE gamebox actually does have a warning on it.
"WARNING! Your new life may be too addictive to leave."

Ms. Tripps sure thinks so. Last time I saw her... :)
Really, there are a number of psychological conditions that can make a person fixate too much on Eve. There is OCD, ADHD, Schizoid Personality Disorder, etc. If it is causing negative consequences in your life you should do something about it.
If it wasn't Eve it would be something else. I had a college roommate that nearly failed out because of an addiction to Civilization for DOS.

make sure you have done the most important thing of the day, get out of bed, have a shower, have breakfast and keep your home tidy. If you need to stock the freezer go shopping, then you can play eve.
Also if you desperate to dump a loved one, then just mention you playing eve, that will pretty much do that.
Seriously it is a game afterall, enjoy but remember there is a real life.

EVE? Addictive?

/me stops kidding himself and cries in a corner
Anyways, I do find myself playing EVE in all my spare time, but that's just because EVE reduces stress and I am often stressed when I get any free time. But yeah I need to cut down.
No it should not have a warning, though a 'This game rocks' warning would be acceptable, as that's true and would help sell the game.

You know how games/movies/books/whatever often have one liners from people who've reviewed them on them?

EVE is one mofo of a MMO, and for all the niggles (lag, dodgy GMs, occasional boredom etc) the thing is, its still top of my list of spare time eaters
Now, if work is not important to you, then I say, so what if you don't impress other peeps and their opinions on what you 'should' be doing with YOUR life!
Put it this way, IF you think you have an obcession with EVE, or an addiction (or whatever disempowering label you choose to apply to yourself) then I'd say, that if you choose to apply your attention/skills to another activity, you will be most excellent at it
So EVE is not A problem, or THE problem, its usually got to do with others putting their expectation onto you, and if thats the case then its best to be who you really are, and tell others to go do what they want to, and wish them the best of good luck!
If there are things you are not doing, and you think its because of EVE, then I say to you, do those other things, and you'll probably find that EVE is even more enjoyable than it is already, and for gawds sake be happy with what your doing, life is'ent a rehearsal after all

Wow ... even for a post on what I regard as a neutral topic, the forum PvPers, or immature, pathetic, etc... cannot help slating the OP. Sometimes I wonder.
Anyway, to the OP, I am completely addicted to EVE. Fortunately for me I do not have many commitments, other than my job. But I play every minute possible, but then before EVE I used to play DAOC, and I was the same there. The only reason I left was due to the lack of real development, and to me EVE is non stop development. The use of TS to speak to my corporation friends is fundamental too. I think that I know some of them better than my work friends.

Looking from the outside, you could say im addicted to eve. I play literally all day.
I know from the inside when im honest with myself that its not eve im addicted to, I simply use it as a distraction so I dont have to think about all the ****** up **** thats going on in my head. If im concentrating on eve my brain doesnt seem to go there as much.
From the OP it sounds like you have some personal problems to deal with too, and you play eve as a way to escape your real life. Im going to be a total hypocrite here and say try to prioritise fixing your problems if you are able to, or seek some professional guidance to at least get them off your chest so you can start to deal with them. I wish I was able to deal with mine.

It's not Eve's fault or CCP's fault you lost your jobs, its because you have no self-control.
Delete your characters and uninstall it. If you do not do that, you have no one to blame but yourself.
Yes, read the rest of the posts, i have already said it was my fault not ccp's, i have already said i was a teenager when it happened when i didn't give a monkeys about losing jobs.
I am quite sure he read the rest of the posts. I see nothing in his comment that seems he isnt up to speed at the time he posted.
What I do see is that you posted that you have a problem, asked others if they have the same problem or what their opinion is of your situation.
Now ppl are giving you their opinion and you want to argue with them. Which leads me to what was the point of posting in the first place? Ppl aren't telling you its ok you have no willpower and self-control. Good. If you listened to them instead of arguing them it might do you some good, mate. Outside of that it certainly sounds like you are just drawing attention to yourself while wasting other's time, because there is no point to taking advice if you are just going to argue it.
I'm sure this will just create more argument, but....My advice is, like there are many ways to play this game, there are many ways to live your life. If you own a lan center then your life revolves around gaming, at least somewhat. Having an addiction to Eve, for such a person, does not seem like a 'problem' at all, to me. Seems more like really liking what you do. You said before that when you lost your job over Eve, you were still a kid. Kids don't give a **** so yeah, who cares. I lost jobs because I wanted to go drink with friends, THAT DAY, when I was a kid. I never had anything bordering on a drinking problem. So that doesn't sound like a real problem either.
What makes it a problem is that you SAY you have a problem. Which means the way in which you act is not acceptable to yourself. In which case, you have simply two choices. MAN UP and do something, or quit complaining and try to enjoy your life without the willpower and self-control it takes to live the way you want to live. Taking the second choice is actually the harder one to do, as it is impossible; you will never really be happy knowing you aren't in real control of your own life.. but you will never understand that until you manage to take the first path, at least once. And see that in the end, willpower is not a difficult thing to accomplish, if you just exercise it once in a while.

Here's what you do.
1.) Research some other hobbies (not other video games). 2.) Find one that will interest you. 3.) Keep playing eve the way you are. 4.) Start doing this other hobby. If possible, get some family/friends involved. 5.) Slowly start playing less and less eve and instead doing this hobby. 6.) By now hopefully this new hobby will have opened your eyes to other things you can do that are fun and more productive/socially healthy.
You get the general idea. Ease yourself out of eve rather than the "delete eve and your characters" cold turkey deal others are suggesting. Figure out what you like so much about eve. Politics? Get caught up in keeping track of real politics. PvP? Join a sports team or club of some sort. Mining? um... try drilling for oil in your backyard? Don't know about that one.
Just start doing something else you like and have it slowly take away from your eve time. Should open your eyse to some of the other fun things to do in life.
Hope it helps.
