Look at the bottom of this post.......hummm dont say anything about PvP being part of the profesions to play. But it does say somthing about pirates....and face it Pirates life is not an easy one.
Even in modern times...pirates have to pick and choose what target they are going to go after. And prey there isnt a naval ship 14-25 miles away.

Originally by: Skyrock - Local chat standings are a dead give away to everyone, empire wars and piracy in both lowsec and nosec are now officially dead. I did a test the other night, I booted up an alt and added everyone in local chat to my address book. Upon logging in my main, 6 out of 15 people logged off. The remaining 8 were docked.
If this game really needed an incomplete GUI to allow PvP (which i don't believe), then something would be incredibly wrong in the first place.
Local standings are no balance issue like dps or hp or speed or whatever. It's an improvement in GUI, just like the overview sorting or the autopilot or moveable module buttons.
It just saves people from doing boring monotone repetitive tasks. Same as logging in to the server automatically instead of typing its IP-address on every new login. -- This game is still in beta stage |

PvP is in decline? Huh... I haven't noticed it. I still lose ships at the same rate (while trying to score some kills in the process).

Let's see... battles this week, mostly in belts:
1) Me vs. Typhoon 1a) Me vs. Typhoon + Ferox 2) Me vs. Cyclone + Myrmi + Caracal 3) Me vs. Domi + Condor + Cyclone 4) Me vs. Sleipnir 5) Me squishing a Cerberus (He didn't even want to fight =P) 6) Me jumping in on gatecamp of Bships (owie)
And that's just 1 week of fabulous profit. Don't you tell me PvP is dead. ----------------------------

I don't see much difference, and that OP's description of how things are could've been written pre-Kali.

There's a bunch less PvP because of the WCS nerf. Rgardless of any real effect it had. And there's a lot less kills because of the damage nerf.

I've been there like 3 dozen times, i've spend countless evenings like that. Its just not fun and Revelations force feeds you with more of this BS than before.
The new probe system made sure this doesn't happen again. The reason this happened before was because they could sit safely in their safespots, now they will be probed down within minutes and battle will happen whatever they like it or not. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

I think that's the problem, the only people he can find actually do shoot back! ________________

Edited by: Callistus on 07/12/2006 23:10:56 I think I've pvp'd more since revelations than before. Loving the new probe system and the HP boost is really quite nice: It gives you a bit more time for some tactical movement but hasn't actually increased combat duration to the point you can't gank and run without a massive amount of firepower.
Oh, and the wcs nerf has probably meant more kills than before too --------------

It's not the pvp that's dead at all, more like casual piracy. You can still get all the pvp you want, but the targets are gonna likely be other hardcases looking to gank people also. It's getting so slow pirates are parking haulers in belts in low sec to trick other pirates into ganking. (snigg..) So pvp isn't dead, but piracy is more on the lines of ganking the gankers

Originally by: Skyrock PvP is dead and Revelations killed it. This isn't a whine about any of Revelations content specifically. These are just perceptions from an allround, casual PvP'er. I do it in highsec, lowsec, nosec and everywhere inbetween. I've been playing for 9 months and by no means a 'leet pvper' or whatever. Here are my observations:
- Lowsec is a ghost town. There are people in local yes but everyone uses WTZ, you never inhabit the same area as the people in local.
- Local chat standings are a dead give away to everyone, empire wars and piracy in both lowsec and nosec are now officially dead. I did a test the other night, I booted up an alt and added everyone in local chat to my address book. Upon logging in my main, 6 out of 15 people logged off. The remaining 8 were docked.
- Reinforcements are hell of a lot closer all of a sudden. Ok, imagine you find someone with an IQ in the double digits ratting in his Raven, all by his lonesome self. If you attack he will most likely call for backup. With the way corps in 0.0 operate they are usually not more than a few jumps out. Due to WTZ and increased tankability the likelyhood of finishing him off before the blob arives is small.
Your only options right now are bubble camping/camp breaking or fleet battles. But fleet battles are rare and mostly a game of numbers, lag and sheer luck. So PvP is reduced to bubbles and ******* around on the test server.
/rant off
I'm open to serious suggestions as to where to go now, because I can't find anywhere to PvP anymore. To my eyes EVE is now more PvE orientated than WoW.
1. People use WTZ? Yes they should 2. People watch local to spot hostiles? Yes they should 3. People can get reinforcements because of increased HP? Yes they should, that was the idea of introducing them.
Anything else worth commenting on?

Grab a Recon Probe Launcher and find yourself some mission runners, seems all the rave recently, maybe that's why lowsec seems like a ghost town?

If anything, PVP is more active than before. So many people got shiny new ships that they want to come out and fight in.
There are certainly issues with the current patch (making mission-runners so easy to bust is a mistake), but lack of PVP is not one of them. Stop looking for trivial ganks in lowsec and go prowl 0.0 instead. Plenty of fun to be had.

I'd have to disagree about PvP being dead to be honest, the local thing definitely favours the guy out there who is ratting, but only if he's checking local which I am happy to say still many people don't. I can't really say we've noticed a sizeable drop in the amount of targets that are out there to kill either, we still catch people in belts, people still get caught out like they always did. Plus we'll still charge into a gate camp if we think we can take it etc.
So all in all no I dont think Revelations has killed PvP, might have made the odds a little better for the pray but nothing too drastic.

Ah, see that is the problem. Most "PvPers" dont' want targets that shoot back, they want to shoot haulers, mission runners, etc.
You wanted the abilty to find mission runners and AFKers easier, so you got a new scan/probe system to do so. Revelations has made it trivially easy to hunt down mission runners and kill them. So they moved out of LowSec as THEY don't want to PvP with you.
You got what you wanted, it just hasn't had the result you wanted.
There's awesome pvp going on all over still... every day.. just look at all the wars going on.
