Edited by: Tha''Vena on 08/12/2006 01:56:49 Edited by: Tha''Vena on 08/12/2006 01:56:09 Hello all,
I just wanted to advertise my program here. First off, its OpenSource, available free of charge, not in violation of the EULA, it does not help your character (regarding in game mechanics) in anyway. I am just advertising this here so that you might evaluate it and give it a go, or not.
That said and out of the way:
For a year now I have been coding MiningBuddy, a PHP application meant for corporations and/or groups of players, even the solo miner out there. It helps keep track of your mining operations, where you are mining, what you are mining, who gets paid (ISK) payout, it has an accounting system (people get credited ISK if they take part in operations), an events calendar and much more.
MiningBuddy is currently in version 0.5.0 and under constant feedback from a small but steadily growing community.
There are soo many features in there, yet it remains slick and easy to use. Most features you do not see and only surface themselves when they are needed. Like the "transfer money" option will not show if you have no money.
Feel free to give it a spin: http://demo.miningbuddy.net (if you get kicked back to the login screen its because MiningBuddy's demo account is beeing used by another person, its one of MiningBuddys safety features).
If you want to skip the waiting line and/or are ready to try the real deal, head to http://miningbuddy.net and download the full, free, OpenSource version there.
If you have feedback, comments, bugs, suggestions, yes, even rants, head to http://miningbuddy.net, click support and use the forums there. MiningBuddy is a living, breathing product that thrives on feedback alone. If you dont like a feature, say so! (Also, if you like it... :)
And if you can't get it hosted anywhere else I am currently considering offering hosted installations for a monthly ISK charge (CCP cleared this "sale", it is NOT in violation on any EULA) - given the fact that you can even download it for free. This is just to help people that cant get MiningBuddy to run anywhere else, and the charge is there so I dont get swamped with "unused" installations. I hope you do understand.
In hopes that you will enjoy MiningBuddy as much as I enjoyed coding it,

Seems you have an error there. Closed the Op and it gave me that error

Hey,
Dont worry about the bugs, there use to be a project similar to this one but not as advanced.
Not sure if already done but you could add refining into it, like price once refined and sold.
Well done

Hey,
Thats on my todo list. But before I pump in another year of development I want to know whether the general EvE community wants such a tool - or not.

Aah I begin to understand now, Having followed the advice to open with winrar and then winzip and reading the "Readme", I see that it isnt a standalone program.
Im from an older generation that wasnt taught how to make web pages at school (in fact we didnt even have calculaters then) so forgive me. Im an install, point and click user,
Program looks great, I wish I could use it outside a browser.

Well,
I was wondering whether to code a standalone program or a web application. After careful (and short) consideration I went for web. One reason, among others is that when you gang up with 10 other people, you do not have to instruct each one to download this tool, just give them the url where it is located and you can start right off.

Hey,
MiningBuddy 0.5.3 released. This is a patch and community request release.
- Fixed: User without isOfficial flag can now actually see non-official and official runs. - Fixed: Some people had payout problems, should no longer be the case - Fixed: Resources is now spelled correctly. - Added: You can now set the default tax rate for runs in the config -or- if you do not set it, an average of all past taxes will be calculated and suggested. - Added: You can now set the can time until it pops in the config file. - Changed: Completed payouts are now sorted descending, with newest payout on top.
I also with the MiningBuddy community merry Christmas and a happy new year!
-Christian. PS: If anyone wants to send me a christmas gift, I am "Tha'Vena" in game :) Tha'Vena Director of Internal Affairs, Autaris, Inc.

Edited by: Tha''Vena on 21/12/2006 22:15:19 Woha,
Two updates in a day. 0.5.4 however only affetcs the Lotto code. So if you dont use the lotto module, stick to 0.5.3.
- Fixed: Drawing a winner will now only draw the winner for the open lotto round, not for all (adding multiple winning tickets) - Fixed: You can now actually claim tickets (spelling error with one variable) - Fixed: The last ticket can now actually win, too :P

To be honest with you, this is completely unusable by a great many members of the EVE community. While it might be neater than a box of rocks, unless you rebundle it into something that anyone can open and run, you are going to really limit the amount of folks using it.

My corp has some tech savvy people. We ran this a few months ago. It had a few bugs but the base functionality was there. I'm sure it's much more refined now. One thing it allowed us to do was really, REALLY, pay people according to their participation in a mining op.
You know the drill. Op starts promptly at 20:00 eve time. People continue to show at 21:30 and people began leaving at 20:15. Unless the op is an all-mins-to-the corp deal, this is a great way to track who gets what. Each load of ore can be tracked. Worked great for us.
One beaeuty of the program is that it is a web tool, not a stand-alone device. It's open for everyone on the op to login and see. There's no wondering about whether or not things have been accounted properly. You wouldn't have that with a standalone tool the op director ran on his or her desk top.

Hello all,
V 0.5.5 is out, fixing all reported bugs to date.
Thanks for the nice words, ab Technician071548! If you have used it before december your installation was 0.4 and very, very buggy :) Also, with 0.5.x very fine grained payment systems have been implemented, give it another go!
Saint Sebastian - Why cant you? Support is available on the homepage, free of charge. And even if you cant host it, I still offer to host in for (in game ISK) donations.
Eacham Graeme - Semi valid point, given the fact that one one guy has to set this up, the rest just uses it like this forum here. And whoever is hosting your corp homepage should have some basic skills at that too. It all boils down to unpack, create database and config file - thats it. :)
Abyssal Angel - It says Mining Buddy :D

ya, I can't use it because my provider won't upgrade to php5 as long as there are providers holding out, it's limited in it's user base

We do a LOT of mining so It would be a nice tool but for some reason everytime I try to logon to the demo it is supposedly "in use" according to your site. I would like to view the demo but I cant sit all day online and keep trying if someone inadvertently left it logged on leaving the rest of us out in the cold.

I actually stumbled across your website earlier today, before seeing this thread. In response to your FAQ, I'd just like to re-assure you on using PHP5. If people want PHP4, tell them to go suck a lemon and upgrade their webserver. PHP4 is so riddled with security holes it's ridiculous. Nobody should be using it now, especially since PHP5 is already a year or two old, and anyone who wants it is welcome to go back to Win98 with no antivirus
I'm putting together an Excel spreadsheet to figure up the most efficient ore to mine to build a given ship (to compensate for overlap in ore yields and make sure you don't mine too much of one asteroid type and waste time). Unfortunately, I'm not a coder whatsoever and even VB.net scares me, so I'm sticking with the spreadsheet for now. Maybe once I get it all done, though, I'll take a page from your book and try doing it in PHP--quite a few people have told me it's pretty easy to do.
GJ on the proggy. The number of willing developers who play EVE always astounds me. Hope the project works out well for you.

Are you sure its not the warning that there might, at some point, someone else might log in? Did you actually try to log in? If you get kicked out after you logged in THEN you are fighting with someone else.
But you right. With the current people using miningbuddy more demo sites are really required :/

Thanks for the nice words, much appreciated :) You have no idea just how many people use PHP4 - they rent webspace, pay good money and the get PHP4. Noone is complaining so the host has no real reason to upgrade. Yay.
