Edited by: Testy Mctest on 08/12/2006 19:27:36 Well, I guess there's one way to make sure you win - be unsportsmanlike and don't give your opponents 5 more minutes to log their most important ship in.
Such a shame - the best group in the tourney marred by something like that. Poor show, Red Skull.
And why bother with having reserve pilots if you cant use them? GG, GREAT tourney rules guys.

I do wish Red Skull would have let them get their guy to log in, but I guess it's their right not to. It's not CCP's fault, nor BE's fault that their apoc pilot couldn't log in.
I think they're blaming iceland though.

You obviously shouldn't be able to substitute someone in.... if you could you would see a lot more crashing and having people coming in with different setups...
Anyway it sucks for BE, but it could happen to anyone.

It wasnt LeMondes fault. If Red Skull has protested that for fairness the match should be rescheduled, I very much doubt that there'd be objections from the GMs.
Mind you, Ive never entered a tournament where unsportsmanlike people *dont* get a leg up - cheating is ftw, especially when you do it in a way that makes you look like it was just something that happened. Yes, I class unsportsmanlike conduct as cheating. Such a shame.

Red Skull were about as sportsmanlike as you can expect really, they saved the Apoc for last and it's not really their fault Heinky dropped. And I would call BS on any team that had someone "disconnect" after seeing my team on grid and then bring in another ship. Not saying BE were trying this, because I don't think they were but you can't use replacement pilots after youve been moved. Lemonde made a rules call and its really the only call to be made, you can't delay fights more. In fact, Lemonde was even warpscrambling the Apoc to give them a chance to log back in. BE just had a rough break and its too bad they didnt get a chance to fight with a full team but there is no way for that to have happened with a disconnnect. ---------- Eve is balanced: Caldari have to train Rails Minmatar have to train Missiles Gallente have to train Drones Amarr have to train Caldari |

Thanx for depraving us of one of the top matches.
On the other hand, why couldnt another UDIE member log in with Heinky?
Anyways, UDIE would only have won if that apoc was a combined nosboat/logistic boat. If it was, I'm sure UDIE would've won.

1) Heinky crashed from teamspeak as we were sorting targets etc. 2) We tell them to wait and they do. 3) Heinky comes back on TS. 4) Countdown starts 5,4,3. 5) Heinky crashed from TS + EVE client, countdown paused. 6) We tried to delay as long as possible 7) We tried to phone him, but could not get through. 8) The match was started. 9) We got pwned 10) Heinky logged back in after we were all dead (We don't account share btw Loxy) 11) Much shouting and abuse was directed towards him on ts 12) Everyone quit ts in a fit of rage after cussing eachother out and calling eachother spies 13) I being to formulate a plan for retribution.....

personally, red skull wouldve won anyway given the setups. it wouldve just lasted a little longer is all.
is it thier fault an aopponent couldnt be there? is it thier fault it was a dev call and not thiers? no.
its a shame the match went the way it did, but i know for a FACT that if ANY of you were fighting in that tournament, fielding the kind of isk you have to to even stand a chance of winning, then you would choose to have the fight right there and then at the advantage. i recall tyrrax having the same call last tournament when a bob scimitar crashed mid fight? and he still managed to lose, for that matter.
sportsmanship is not an issue.

I would hate to be Heinky at that point... I know that situation, and I absolutely dispice it. Not much you could do, since that ship was the heart of the setup. I had looked forward to this, as i do with all matches in Group of Death and Group of Death 2. Too bad they all ended in the same group , its the knit-picks that decide them.

I sincerely don't hope you are the voice of your alliance. I see no excuses only a report of what happened. No one says that if Heinky hadnt had any problems the fight would have had a different winner, but surely it would have been more nailbiting. Also, incase anyone hasn't calculated it:
Name Kill Loss Points IAC 84 38 46 Terra 56 45 11 TRS 38 28 10 MC(3) 49 56 -7
This means it is absolutely all to play for tomorrow.
If Terra Incognita win 28-0 then they will advance. If they don't win 28-0 then it is entirely possible that TRS can go through. Baisically, all that seperates Terra from TRS is 1 point in the kill/death ratio. This could be crucial, but it means that both teams must concentrate on winning without loosing any ships.

We now go a bit off topic, as the topic is pretty much done for.
I am not expert with the rules, and I am one of those who scroll down to the 'I agree' button :P
BUT, I believe if they were to excersice this 'right', and ban someone for allowing someone else to login, its possible to win in a court, because when I pay for something (in this case, gaming account), it is my right to decide who can use it.
Just like Microsoft and any other company has no right telling me that the license I bought for Office cant be sold off to someone, and even if they try to add something like that to EULA, the court would null it (I believe it happend in the past, but as I am not expert to laws etc, I dont know how to find the precedences).
Such analogy is correct, because CCP already limited the number of simultanous logged in users, hence its not 'copying' of product illegaly, but it is a 'fair use'.
This sounds logical I believe.

BE certainly have the easier match, while the Red Skull have MC, who depending on whether the MC try or not, could be either very tough or easy. Knowing Seleene though I don't think the MC will just turn up in junk to get their bil back.

Account sharing isn't against the tournament rules, it's technically against the game's rules.
Now, a lot of people does it, and CCP turns a blind eye on it until someone gets hurt, but still...
I believe CCP add that bit in the EULA so if someone gives their login details to a friend and then that friends steals all his isk and sells off all his stuff, he then can't come and moan at CCP and ask for something to be done about it.
CCP can then say well its your own fault we did tell you its against the EULA. But normally unless someone complains they turn a blind eye.

Edited by: dalman on 09/12/2006 02:19:40 I certainly care about my reputation and always try to act with honour. In more 'normal' circumstances, I'd prolly had said yes to wait longer for Burn Eden's pilot. This however, was not normal. Let's take a look at our situation: We're drawn into what's clearly the hardest group in the tournament.
3-4 days before the tournament is to start, our captain (trev) is called in to EVE-TV, and I'm drifted into the team as replacement. Trev was the one who had done all the preparations. I hadn't thought about the tourney 1 second before. One member of our team also pulled out, which we were not allowed to replace. So we're one member short.
Time for first match, vs IAC. A match that's gonna be very deciding. Parts of our team is US (quite naturally as Trev is US as well). One of them couldn't possibly make it to this match. Down to 5 members. We have our tactics lined up. Then one of our euros get a bit of a mess at work. He can't make it, and we didn't have phone numbers. So, 15 minutes before transport to the match we realize that we'll be one man short. That was our battleship pilot, supposed to fly a faction BS. So, we have to buy a BS + fitting of the market and put one pilot who was gonna fly a smaller ship into that, change some some more around, and create some kind of lineup that possibly could have any chance. It didn't go too well, and we lost badly. Not saying we would have won vs IAC with a full team. But it would have been a real fight and could have gone any way. And for 100% sure we would have killed at least their 3 smaller ships if we had lost.
Right, we've lost to IAC. Time to support IAC and hope they beat Burn Eden. And they did \o/. Or, wait, they did not. They got disqualified. Now we're in big big trouble. We've lost badly vs IAC, who then lost 28-0 vs burn eden.
Time to hope MC beat IAC then. Then we'd have a fair chance of progress. But nope. MC get their tactics spot on, but fail on execution.
At this point, we need a big win vs burn eden. We got it. IAC smashed us cause RL prevented us. BE smashed IAC cause of the can dropping. We smashed BE cause RL prevented them.
I seriously don't see how that's unfair, at all. All I see is 3 possibly kick-ass matches that all got turned into ****.
Now it's all down to how these 3 teams do in the matches vs MC and Xelas to decide which 2 go through (though technicly, if MC kick our asses and Xelas beat burn eden badly, MC can still go through). IAC has done well and are already through. We brought a very defensive setup vs Xelas, because we felt we needed a 28-0 win considering how the group was. Unfortunately they did the same, and we didn't manage to kill all their ships. And therefor we're the ones in the worst situation (as explained by Shin Ra).
Had our match vs IAC been a 'real match', and IAC vs Burn Eden been a 'real match' - then I'd said yes to wait for Burn Eden's pilot. Cause I'm confident we would have won anyway. But in this situation... IAC had gotten their (almost)flawless win on a silver plate. Burn Eden had gotten their flawless win on a silver plate. Now we got our flawless win presented on a silver plate.
We're not here for your entertainment. We're here to win. Are you seriously suggesting that this wasn't more than fair considering the situation?
Am I forced to have any regret? I've become the lie, beautiful and free In my righteous own mind I adore and preach the insanity you gave to me |

Dalman, I think it's fair to say that every one of us in this group has had our fair share of bad luck and strangeness.
Thanks for detailing yours though. I knew about Trev, but the rest... wow.
Good luck tommorow. We'd resigned ourselves to simply going out with a bang and giving you a good scrap. Now it seems we have all the more reason to give it a go. See you there. -

Group of Death = Group of Jinx
Long and short of it. The hardest bracket of the tournament ended up being the weirdest, with all four "leading" teams claiming at least one controversy, if not more.
