So there I am minding my own buisness playing Day of Defeat Source. (WWII FPS) And I've been on american servers seen as how I've moved to Vancouver from scotland 5months ago and I get a nice ping connection. SO yeah, I notice there is alot of racism, mainly the word n****rs. I think that's pretty racist so I comment "Man, you americans sure are racist." (okay so I generalised my bad, but I know it's mainly the young people 14-18 year olds). Then someone says to me whatever! we don't care! We do what we want in america! so I'm like.. okay fair enough, then some guy calls me a foriegn idiot. I say hold on, isn't this more racism, then they ask where I'm from I say Scotland.. then someone (musta been one of the more educated) says "OMG he's from england!" ER... no I'm not.. YES YOU ARE! okay, I'm from britain. Then they start telling me to respect america because there army will blow me up. I said "yeah okay, sorry to 'cause a fuss. please don't send your scary army to kill me." then they tell me to STFU YOU NOOB! YOU KNOW NOTHING!! I'm like okay, I know nothing. Sorry. I must be as non educated as yourselfs. Then they continue to tell me nothing good comes out of england, britain is a piece of crap etc etc. Then (because we playing WWII game) they tell me I was lucky america saved me. and said we were a useless country with nothing good. After a few random insults thrown at me, I say that we have the most elite force in the world.. the UK SAS, but then they shoot me down DELTA FORCE, RANGERS! OMG OMG! YOU NOOB! WE WILL KILL YOU! Your country will be destroyed by ONE of our nukes. I'm like hey whatever lol. Then someone new says "Higgy(my nick on fps's), Your from brittish?!" I say "yes, I'm from scotland." then one of the other guys say "OMG HE'S AN IDIOT!!! HE THINKS SCOTLAND IS BRITISH!" I'm like it is... last I checked. and he goes "No it's not you idiot!! SCOTLANDS at war with the british, it always has been!!" Okay, I tried to ell him what countries are part of britain, I was then slated for being an idiot and repeatedly called a noob. Please, all americans.. Tell me. Your not all like this are you? You all know Scotland and england are seperate countries and are part of britain"

England Scotland Northern Ireland The Republic of Ireland Wales Cornwall (legally a Palatine State) The Isle of Mann (British Crown Dependency The 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island' is England (Cornwall), Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland, the Republic of Ireland is all of Ireland except the 6 counties of Northern Ireland, both states are members of the European Union. The Isle of Man is not a member of the European Union. The Term 'British Isles' refers to the Geographical area which includes more than 6000 isles and not to any particular country, because The Republic of Ireland is part of the British Isles but not part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island. All seems very straight forward to us British because this is where we live. England is well ahead of the rest of the other areas in terms of population and it's understandable why people assume that England refers to the whole geographic area. I had to explain it myself to some American students whilst I was at Uni, they obviously weren't studying Geography . In fairness to them however i'm sure there are plenty of countries in the world (most of them) where I would go and be completely ignorant of the true way in which the geographical area is governed.

England is not Britain For anyone interested, Great Britain came about after the act of union in the 17 or 1800's which make the countrys into one, new bank notes, controlled via london etc etc. Most americans are not stupid (English myself) but you do find idiots in any part of the world, and they do generally group together. The Internet as a medium is very good at letting people express views which they would normally not in person due to there environment and/or confidence level. Try not to generlise age, gender or race and you'll be fine. * One day ill learn to proof read but dammit not today!

A Scotsman invented a television that was a piece of crap. the entire system was dropped with in 9 years of invention. I am suprised anyone could consider something that worked mechanically a television. it wasn't really TV until Marconi made a electronic one. before then it was just radio that could be augmented with pictures. Back to the original post the N-word is used mostly by blacks among each other. just listen to rap videos. I don't know why they do that but they do. So you were likely either dealing with African Americans or white people that think they are black.

On another note, I'm not at school I'm 20, and sitting my degree year at university. And just for you to know, American history.. Your history is british history as a large percentage of americans can be traced back the UK. so... er.. shut up

If you can call something using motorized spinning disk limited to 60 lines (yeah go 3 inch screen) (and never commercialy broadcast at over 30 lines anyways) A frame rate worse then when ASCN and BOB deploy their entire fleets against each other and your there trying to watch with a 486. The reason it was radio with some visual augmentation was simply if they did not use the radio format of narrating everything then you would not have a clue what was going on. It wasn't real TV until CRT.

I based my opinion on that, as a Swede, almost no americans knew anything about my country, knowledge I take for granted. In fact, most have it confused with Switzerland and compliments me for the nice chocolate we make at home. However, then it came to me; how many people at home can point out Massachussets on a map over the US? I dare say most people over here wouldn't be able to get the fact right that Washington DC is positioned geographically south of New York. And really, how different is Sweden to Massachussets if you'd look at a European map vs. a North American one? How different is Scotland, and its history? That made me realize that maybe we shouldn't be so hard on our over-the-atlantic companions. Of course we're insulted when the other knows nothing of our heritage, but on the other hand; how much do we know about theirs?

The Germans couldn't invade Sweden ala Norway/Denmark because that would've allowed the Allies to bomb Swedish steel industry. In that perspective, by defeating Germany pre-emptively, the US did bail Sweden out as well. However, I've always been pretty certain the Soviets did more to finish off Germany than the US did, but that's another topic

The only reason it joined the war was to stop Japan, and Japan being allied with Germany and US deciding to allie itself to the UK brings it into the western front as well. So it wasn't exactly as if America raised there lil flag and ****ed down their trumpets and shouted "LET'S SAVE THE ALLIES!!". On a similar note I read an article in a very prominent british newspaper that stated that Lord Nelson was one of the greatest Brits to have ever lived as had he not beaten the French at Trafalgar there would have been no British Forces to fight the war machine and thus the Allies would have lost WW2. If you consider that thought though Napoleon would probably have marched on the rest of Central Europe mainly unhindered and therefore there would have been no ** war machine for the Allies to have to defeat. You can't second guess history.

Scotland is part of britain. Deal with it People mock the French for their rather poor military record but without La Resistance the Allies would have faced a far tougher task in France. La Resistance was key in providing information, assassinations, disrupting supplies and various other forms of espionage on top of doing a damn good job at getting downed pilots and escaped PoW's back to Blighty.
