Wrangler Assistant Community Manager EVE Online
Okay, now we know CCP actively encourage griefing in the game. This quote from Assistant Community Manager Wrangler says it all.
Fair enough. CCP has spoken.
But is there a limit to the amount of griefing even CCP will tolerate? Should there be...?

You mean, like, "ok, so far 2400 of you have griefed mission runners, and that is enough for tonight, NO MORE mission-runner griefing until downtime, or else!"?
Cause, usually, when it gets out of hand by whatever internal standards they have, they patch things to make it impossible. Remember the Yulai.

Griefing is one of the things that makes EVE a good MMOG, unlike many of the terrible ones on the market.

Whether anyone likes it or not, CCP seems to tolerate "griefing", and in fact may seem to support and even encourage it as part of the EVE Online experience. Where do I stand? I plead the 5th...
As to where they seem to draw the line? It appears that in general they will draw a line in the sand A) when it effects new players and the new player experience in a negative way, B) when it involves the misuse of an unintended game mechanic effect (exploit), and possibly C) where it shows a pattern of harassment. Other than that they seem to not care what people do, but then it really will depend on what one person might consider "griefing" and how they actually define it. ---------------

They don't encourage griefing, its just part of the game as like any other game. They can't police it. What he said was seriously a joke. People will grief, ALL sorts of people... that all he was getting at. Its a fricken game!

If my memory serves correct, back in the day when yulai was the hub of eve and you could reach every empire in 5-6 jumps (i miss highways), a corp called space invaders ganked a lot of people in secure space. Concord could not stop them as they were using other characters supporting them with remote things (I think). This was before concord attacked people who helped criminals. But yeah It was one of the biggest greifs and a lot of them wound up banned for direclty disobeying the gms.

It's a shame that you take what is obviously a joke and spin it as something serious.
If people like you keep doing that then we may lose the informal and interesting iinteraction we have with the CCP staff.
That would be sad.

Oh sure, everyone could see Wrangler was "joking", but his underlaying theme is simply the company line: CCP WANT LOADS OF PLAYERS TO GRIEF OTHER PLAYERS. That portion of Wrangler's message wasn't meant to be humorous.

I got news for you, Sunshine- money talks and bull sh!t walks! That's why I'm staying put to fight the good fight from within. As more and more PvE players join EVE, there will be greater and greater pressure on CCP to limit grief play and non-consensual PvP in Empire space. In the end, CCP is a for-profit business, and they will go where the money is.
Don't believe me...? Well, something very much like it happened to Ultima Online...
Don't like it? Go play Shadowbane.

Your plea for us to "shut up" about ending griefing in Empire space is noted and denied.

hmm... They cannot go play Shdowbane anymore, that game is dead due to the fact that nobody like that style of pvp. lol If UO didn't change, it wouldn't have lasted till today. Fact is that people like pvp but very few like griefing. However, small group of often ruin the fun for large group of people easily. It is like 1 rat pee in a pot of soup and ruins it for all.
oh yeah, often geifers digging their own graves. so there is no need to argue about it. The fact is this: Eve need more pvpers but no more griefers.

"Griefing" is a perjorative term and it's wrong to apply it to a mechanism for non-consensual PvP. And although CCP do tune such things from time to time, I'm also certain that they condone ncPvP.

Got news for you, moonshine. (yeah quit drinking it). EVE is a niche game. It will always be a niche game, there is nothing they can do to make it NOT a niche game.
CCP Prides itself on having the best PVP there is to offer and really ever has been offered. The game is centered around PVP, there is nothing you can do to change that. If they were to make it centered around PVE, the game would crash and burn in a matter of days. They realize this.
Think about it: Without PVP, where would you sell your industrial goods? Nobody would buy them, because ppl won't die to Rats as often as they die to other players. Not half as often.
EVEN if they made rats 10 times harder and ships 10 times weaker, ppl still wouldn't die very often. Why? Because mobs are dumb. That's why I don't like PVE, mobs bore the living **** out of me.
Long story short, the entire world of EVE is centered on PVP. Without PVP, there would be no EVE. It would have maybe 10,000 subscribers and most likely be shut down by now. You've probably never heard of the game called "SEED", because it's dead. Never even made it past beta. Crashed and burned.
You're right. Money talks. And when you corner a market, even if it's a niche market, then you have enough money to talk your ass off.
So, before you go spouting off some dumb crap like you just posted, take a look at the game you're logged into. It's not made for Carebears, never was intended to be and never will be. If it's made carebear, the game dies. Without PVP, the entire system crumbles. CCP realizes this.
So yeah, screw that PoS called Shadowbane. I'll stick to EVE tyvm.
