A couple improvements come to mind. Many of the improvements I'd like to see would require instituting a 15-minute tape delay. I don't believe this would significantly affect the quality of the coverage, and that belief is an axiom upon which my suggestions are based; if you disagree, don't read on.
- At the start of each match, show the setups of each ship on each side--show fitted modules (and rigs, if allowed), show what implants are plugged in, and show total SP for the character flying the ship.
- Based on this and other information, give us commentary on what compromises have been made. That Curse is fitting a Halo or a Slave set instead of a Talisman set, or neuts in place of NOS--tell us what this means and what it will do to the team's strategy
- This will require modifying the server just a bit to support it when the special EveTV camera client connects, but place an overlay on top of each ship showing its capacitor status. A lot of the most exciting stuff in the tournament is lost to the commentators because they can't see cap status. In the AXE match vs. IAC, the match looked like AXE couldn't lose--heck, all of our ships were sitting at 100% shield. But if you could have seen the cap status, you would have known that AXE was doomed.
- Give us the ability to "strap in" alongside a pilot. The camera view would change to the perspective of one of the competitors, and we'd see him frantically activating his shield booster and micromanaging drones and all the rest. This would really break up the "boring" matches.
- Absolutely, have competitors on for post-match interviews. This is especially easy given a tape delay; you can create the illusion of a timely interview while the fight is fresh in viewers' minds even if it's occurring 5 or 10 minutes after the fight.
- For each fight, if the alliances control space, pop up an Eve map and highlight the controlled regions. Give us an idea if the parties are people who regularly shoot one another, or if they would never see each other over the course of a normal day.
- In the name of all that is holy, dedicate a node to the tournament.

Agree, it would tip the hand too much that way the surprise factor would lessen.

We really wanted to get this working for this tournament. It was one of the things that people wanted to tune in for and unfortunately its not really possible. The closest we came this time round was the prefight broadcasts on siradio.fm. I think we're looking at the logistics of setting it up, but it requires the time between matches to be longer to allow setup, testing, mic checks, etc.
I tuned in on a fair amount of the siradio.fm casts. Lotsa LOL's there, and there of came the idea to further develop it. As it is now, not all EVE players know of siradio, or the fact that had pre-game shows. These two venues should better exposed as a single show.

Hehe, this was something we hit on this time and before in the other two tournaments. As soon as you show any kind of bias the forums and irc explode. People go mad when you slight their side but when its their enemies, it's all fine. So instead we decided to be less picky and just be biased about everything!
And to confirm that we just have to look at SJ's BBQ roast. And I agree that the "Flame"-fest would be unavoidable. That is the reason I recommend 2 outsiders, from the panel and the match commentators, do this in char, for example on siradio, perhaps invite ppl in. Just a 1-3 mins pre-game good natured roasting of the competition. Here lies the trick, they gotta be opposing, blatantly biased for those two teams respectively.

Again, I believe this was something we wanted to do, especially the Damige/Farjung duel or alternatively EVETV vs the MC/viewers/whoever but in the end since the time constraints were tight it never happened. It would be nice to see, but its not something that can be done time and time again unfortuantely.
Time that cruel, biach...

Man, have you seen the IRC channel? That thing fills with spam so fast any kind of onscreen scrolling feature would be lost amid the IRC*****s/ops trying to get themselves 5 seconds of fame. Whilst it would be nice to get people interacting with the show, I can see the only kind of interaction being what we had this time round, with questions for the panel being sent to a QT or question taker, who inturn sends them to the host/director.
Some good suggestions however and I'm sure they will be considered.
Pretty much the reason I suggest that they do air . Some effective 'voice' moderation should cut down on the spam tho.
What I direction I hope the Tournie will take is to more expose the 'Alliance' part of the extravaganza. The fielded team members are only the visible tip of the machinery larger Alliance support that most, tho not all teams, do gear into these.
It is an Alliance Tournament, be bold about it.
And now for something totally radical. The kudos for this initial idea is not mine, but we rolled around the idea bit on Ts and I think it could bring a whole new level to the CAT (Caldari Alliance Tournament).
This would require some level of Dev-coding, yes. Of any fight on TQ, and as such the CAT figts, the physical data is at some point on some node. Now take that data, mirror it to X many pre-selected and advertised system locations, and set it to ghost the live events.
The Tournie fighters would not see or notice this in anyway. The 'ghost' vessels would but of course be invulnerable to any outside action.
Fans would be able to jump in to one of these systems, warp to a nav-beacon, and watch the show in 3D. Can you imagine the level of entertainment that would yield?

Also, a better match eve client that shows the names of the two teams and the names of the participating team members in bigger text so it can be read with a 500k stream, Possibly the shiptypes as well.
A nice picture-in-picture radar thing maybe that shows where in the arena each team member currently is every so often.

* An EVE-client that can record all things happening on the grid as just positional 3d data. So that then you can 'playback' it later on your client with the resolution you wish and files would be just a few megs long.
Now make this so that you can actually broadcast this, and we can just use our EVE-clients to watch the fireworks.
This would of course greatly improve in-game recording in the normal game too. Get in a fight, start recording, end up with a file of few megs. Play it back later and fraps at the same time.

What I'd like ?
Eve-Tv on Concord's billboards.
How to do : just after a match, when the EVE-TV show is ready, make the file available via an optional (?) patch that people would download before seing it on the billboard. CCP would have to patch the game before so the billboards could play .avi or .whateverEve-TV'sformatisin.
Or anything like that : some people played GTA games, on PC. There was a folder in it to throw some mp3 to play on a custom radio. It could be cool to throw some avi in a Eve folder so concord's billboard could play some video files.
Yes it need "some" work. It could be a great thing also. I'm sure people who are making video files in the game (like Eve-tv, but also any Alliance) would love to play that in the game. Of course, broadcasting Eve-tv ingame downloading video files from a server would create lag, that's why the files should be a pre download, or something separated from what the game needs.
That method could make agree Eve-TV and amateurs who make movies so Eve-tv could choose and incorporate the best movies amateurs made in some advertissements like in real tv (I guess the Corelli would spread their views a little more but hey :p)

Things I want to see on EVE-TV:
More Farjung + Ifni. <----- Fantastic together and know their stuff.
More PiP of pannel's reactions. <----- Thought that was awsome.
More Ouver!
Commentators reading out pilots names + ship's every match.
Catchup / Recap segments.
Less closeup's more general images of the battle.
BIASED COMMONTATORS!! Think it's brilliant if people stop pretending to think a team's crap just because it's their own personal opinion. Makes fantastic veiwing especialy if the commontators don't agree with each other.
More reliable stream with WMP Steam avalible from the beginning. ------------------------------

I would love to hear a replay of the teamspeak/ventrilo audio from fighting teams after the match. Like the panic when someone¦s in trouble or when a player computer crash and that kind of stuff. Many times we ask ourself whats goin on behind the scenes of the teams when fighting. Some interwjues after the match will also solve the problem, but some real action communication from the players would be awesome.
Anyway, EVE-TV is really one of it¦s kind. Keep up the good work.
