Personally i would love to see more information as such on the screen, i know many of us run away from the pc at times, and come back and wonder, who the heck is fighting? Some kind of information on screen there would be nice.
I guess other than that, an i love 5n4keyes tshirt for jamesw?

Edited by: DiNoer on 10/12/2006 12:52:54 #1 - Use more of the PIP (Picture-in-Picture) feature. This year the camera mans angels have been a too much on the dramatic close ups. Tho fun to watch leaves the grater situational awareness somewhat diminished.
#2 - Screen name tags. No need for Spiral to recite the panel members for the 19483rd time.
#3 - Try again to get the Alliances/Teams/Members to commit to interviews. Perhaps look into making it a mandatory thing under the 1B deposit clause.

I have to agree with those who have posted above. Nametags, or sum such similar so we know who is talking. Also, have some sort of more identifiying way of seeing which side belongs to which alliance. If you come in mid show it's like "who's that?" and trying to read the corp or alliance tags is sometimes tough. Interviews with team members would be nice too. Let them give their take on the events. As for "fill in stuff" whynot have some features about life at CCP?

my vid =)
naah just kidding but i put alot of effort into my vid and it has not been broadcasted.. if you are not airng vids plz send the producer a comment what is wrong etc so they can improve to next time..
maybe a vid contest?
set a story line that you want to be followed give teh community 2-3 months head start. then air them the first weekend. let viewers vote then have the winners announced at the second weekend?
as for the studio.. plz go back to the couch type of studio.. there must be tons of good nordic designer wanting to show off furniture etc. the couch type felt more relaxed and more in your living room type feeling which i like better.
more competitions to mix up the show..
something that have been a success in swedish sportshows as the olympic tv-shows.. they dedicated one person that was not in picture the whole time and he communicate with viewers by chat and phone text-message. taht can be abit of loose type person abit smackish and fun. then he can summarize the comments after each fight from teh community etc..

Firstly, I would like more solid streaming perhaps with a few more mirrors since I'm watching tonight's broadcast in 3 second chunks.
Would like to see replays of the good bits of the action during the panel members' summaries and maybe short audio or video interviews with the pilots after the fights.

Day 2 Improvements.
And tbh apart from some hair washing ;) its been bloody good since then. I will admit to have watching every hour of it, and my corp mates n I have blimmin loved it.
Some structured interviews would be very cool, with both Devs and some Community members of note.
Also when a team loses in knock outs, a more detailed analysis of their ship setups would be v cool.
And of course... more Girls ;)

It would be nice to have like 1 minute intermissions focussing on a single ship, showing it ingame and talking about it's primary uses in the tournament and in regular warfare. Like the NOS Domi, CNR, EW cruisers/frigs. It would be nice to know what ships have what special bonusses etc that will affect the fight. As not everybody is familiar with every ship in game.

Next time, I think they should have more special fights like Dev vs Dev in JOVIAN ships! Can the tourney client be hacked to add a cap display below shield/armour/hull on each ship?
Maybe a yellow bar or something so we can see it is different...
Even better a mid slot module could be added to the game that lets anyone get the cap info up by fitting it to their ship!

alliance icons above teams...
the interviews post matches will be very nice too :)
i will also like to see some "positional indicator" during combat... magari a modified system map in a pip square. sometimes in fact is a bit problematic to see what is really happening.
also i agree about alliance/pilots infos... make it mandatory as was alredy proposed.
and the final dev match as in previous tournament

One issue I noticed was with volume.
The panel commentary, fights, and fan fest interviews were fine.
The Fan Fest "EVE in 10 Years" bit was very low volume. Even with all volume controls turned up as loud as I could get them on my laptop, I just couldn't hear what Oveur was saying.
The commercials had the usual "+40 dB will make them buy more!" marketing scheme applied to them.
The "PVP dictionary" segments were also much louder than the normal broadcast.
The fan fest interviews done at the music performance were a lost cause.
---------------------------
As for everything else:
I think the rule changes were GREAT! They really gave us some good fights. Some things started to get old, but in general the fights showed a lot more variety than last time.
The panel still needs to get more professional. Stop with the stupid in-jokes, roleplayer comments, and off-color humor. Yes, the commentary was better than last time. A quick comment of "ooh, can't repeat that one on TV!" is fine (and then a drunken Oveur says them anyway). I like it being a bit light-hearted. The quick 'apology list' was great. But please, tighten up the reigns a little bit more! If I wanted more of the usual humor from the panel I'd just go play WoW instead.
All around though, I have to say great job. I definitely enjoyed this tourney even more than the last! |

1) Match of the day. 2) Quick reviews of the days game for those that missed some of them, or just to recap. 3) Team interviews prior and after the fights. 4) Alliance background stories. 5) More women. 6) Alliance seedings.(so we dont wind up with super groups. 7) More Farjung, JamesW and Trev. 8) Interview with SirMolle and Cyvvok. 9) More standings on eve-tv instead of just on the forums.(also pts difference ratio). 10) Extra nodes for tourney system. 11) Invisible lagless cage where people only can bounce back, when hitting them. 12) Less repeated talk about the same topics.
So summa summarum: More of everything, but Eve-Tv is absolutely heading in the right direction.

On screen timer in matches.
'Selected' quotes from IRC scrolled across the bottom during panel discussions.
Clearer picture quality, i understand this is hard, but its not impossible, being able to read pilot names and have the full graphics of the game streamed to us in perfect quality is what we were crying out for this tournament. It needs to be sorted for the next one...
Spiral needs to ask more probing and controversial questions to create a difference of opinion between the panelists, he needs to ask questions that will make them disagree and have more heated discussions while then controlling the 'arguement' between the experts once there is a conflict.

Maybe have a banner at the bottom of the screen displaying Alliances involved, pilots names and shiptypes when the fight is on ? And a timer, like it was mentionned above, tho the synchronization might be a bit tricky.
If we can't have an audio interview with the gang leader (they don't all speak English), at least have him write a little summary post-fight to explain how it went on for him (like Danton Marcellus did here when he explained why there were splitting damages, see his post on this forum section).
And yes, more Oveur and Magnus. Last night's comments and discussions between fights were excellent.

We really wanted to get this working for this tournament. It was one of the things that people wanted to tune in for and unfortunately its not really possible. The closest we came this time round was the prefight broadcasts on siradio.fm. I think we're looking at the logistics of setting it up, but it requires the time between matches to be longer to allow setup, testing, mic checks, etc.
Originally by: DiNoer #4 - Take a page from the sports shows and commentators. Have a few biased "in character" types have side commentator ship run. Perhaps to fill in the inter fight periods, like side show.
Hehe, this was something we hit on this time and before in the other two tournaments. As soon as you show any kind of bias the forums and irc explode. People go mad when you slight their side but when its their enemies, it's all fine. So instead we decided to be less picky and just be biased about everything!
Originally by: DiNoer #5 - Run more statistical and tactical analysis. Ifni and Farjung are awesome at this. If it where up to me I'd pick them as dedicated in fight commentators.
#6 - To fill in the afternoon breaks: have a opportunity to have challenge matches from the community. Any two groups/individuals that have pre-agreed to settle some score or issue on the field. The pick the rules and team size. Up to them to arrange it, or have the stage preset.
Again, I believe this was something we wanted to do, especially the Damige/Farjung duel or alternatively EVETV vs the MC/viewers/whoever but in the end since the time constraints were tight it never happened. It would be nice to see, but its not something that can be done time and time again unfortuantely.
Originally by: DiNoer #7 - Seen some of this on the panel, but we need more of it: need to let em more loose. Spiral, don't be afraid to ask more challenging questions like: "If you where up agains Team A, what would you do?" "Do you agree with panel member X? What would you change?" Have team members come in on Pre/Post-game TS comments. Just a few quick words.
#8 - Added value of the PIP-feature: Have a bottom screen bar run the #evetv chat room feed.
It is a SHOW; to entertain the EVE-community members. Be true to it.
Man, have you seen the IRC channel? That thing fills with spam so fast any kind of onscreen scrolling feature would be lost amid the IRC*****s/ops trying to get themselves 5 seconds of fame. Whilst it would be nice to get people interacting with the show, I can see the only kind of interaction being what we had this time round, with questions for the panel being sent to a QT or question taker, who inturn sends them to the host/director.
Some good suggestions however and I'm sure they will be considered.
You take what is offered. And that must sometimes be enough. |

Quote: #2 - Screen name tags. No need for Spiral to recite the panel members for the 19483rd time.
Disagree on this one, sometimes I wasnt able to tune in at the beginning, and I, as many others - dont know all the faces, so had to ask in IRC couple times 'who are these guys?' each time they changed..
Suggestion about this: Make a small flash like in CNN etc, when they interview someone new, or camera focuses on new speaker, his name/position/rank flashes for 4-5 secs. Make it re-appear once an hour, that would be nice.
Next one, I would like that the GMs who manage the fights, would post the ship setups which died here on the forum or somewhere, or at the very least killmail. The point being, that when a team brings setup and it died, it shouldnt be their private secret anymore, it should be published for all to see. After all this is open to public tourney. I am sure others would love to see the setups as well.
Last but not least: Make the EvETV stream with higher quality! I understand there are bandwidth limitations, but its no good if we cant even read the players names and corp tags! Bring the resolution up just enough to be able to read their names.
Its great being a Gallente blasterpilot, aint it? Save Tranquility! |

As said before:
1) Name tags for announcers 2) More intuitive screen display (who is fighting, etc... maybe screen ticker?)
To go against the grain...
1) No PiP with the commentators... I tune in to see a fight, not the reactions of "experts" to what's happening. And don't we see enough of them between every fight anyway? If you want PiP, put something interesting in there: like a close-up of the ship getting pounded or the Local Channel. 2) No women just for the sake of having women! Look, I love the ladies as much as anyone else but if a person doesn't know PvP their detracting from the show, not contributing. Leave the eye-candy to commercials, segue's, etc, not the PvP Tournament.
My own idea:
1) Build some monitors into the desk or put something infront of them that allows them to see what's going on and get access to the information they need to commentate effectively. The panel wasting time by trying to guess what ships were being fielded and repeating over and over how small the icons were was annoying. If you want them to give "expert" comments, give them access to the information to do so. 2) VTC (Video TeleConferencing) with well-known players or representatives from the competing alliances. Just because they can't afford a flight to Iceland doesn't mean their contributions won't be valuable. Put them on webcam or something. 3) More segue vids! Interviews, FF footage, player vids, etc... eventually you'll have enough content to run 24/7
Hope that helps...

Not only is it nice to see but it also helps team prepare for their next opponant, getting to watch their match over and over.

Specialised tools for the commentators, such as a list of offensive/remote module types that are currently active on each ship and whom they are operating on. Then the commentators don't have to guess from the on-screen effects.
Recap of previous matches involving the teams in the next fight. Who they've beaten, ships/setups they used, how the fights went.
Expert's (or viewer's) Fight of the Round/Day, maybe with prizes for the teams.
Something to identify which team is which.

Aside from more of Oveur and Hellmar doing mic-scams or something (and ofc jungle curry), the one thing I'd want is more input from the players.
Now, I know this is restricted by 2 things: 1. Time schedule for the matches. 2. Players not actually responding and giving input.
First, I know we (TRS) submitted a short video this time, and I think we (SA) submitted one last time as well. I don't think any of them were showed. Tbh, I dunno if any player submitted videos were shown.
I'd suggest showing videos submitted by the teams before the tournament starts on the first day. Announce this in good time, that each alliance gets their video shown before the tournament starts. Depending on how many submits, you could have like a 1-2 hour session on the first day to show these.
Second, perhaps I'm the only one... But 1 minute after the last match, the stream stops. And I'm sitting there staring at my screen and saying "WTF? No no no, don't stop now". Where's the time for recap and more analyzises? Keep it going. Go through the day, we have 'experts' there for a bloody reason. And by then the teams could have provided these experts with comments as well. Tbh, I doubt I'd take that opportunity. As a strategic player I very much enjoy if my team look weak. But anyway...

By ghad, you're not suggesting I should be on your vent/TS right before my match, are you? Our Vent was total chaos. Most prepared fight we had in this tourney was vs Xelas: by then we had the setup decided a good 30 minutes before the fight and everyone but the member stuck in Jita jump-que was rdy 20 minutes before the fights. The other 3 fights, ppl were still flying around buying modules with 10 minutes to go...
Originally by: DiNoer Seen some of this on the panel, but we need more of it: need to let em more loose. Spiral, don't be afraid to ask more challenging questions like: "If you where up agains Team A, what would you do?" "Do you agree with panel member X? What would you change?"
This one is qft rly... Am I forced to have any regret? I've become the lie, beautiful and free In my righteous own mind I adore and preach the insanity you gave to me |

Having trouble interpreting the , but in case it's not meant sarcastically or anything, I'd have to suggest that you're more likely to see Hellmar in a skirt.
Also, they were all sitting behind a desk. At one point IRC was spectaculating who was kicking whose shins or whether they had Xyliana under that desk. --

Eve TV is top notch, something that you donĘt get with any other game, but few things IĘd like to see.
Widescreen broadcast. No flash stuff also pls, the WMV feed works much better as you can resize it to your needs.
How about 1v1's amongst the panel. Perhaps have a "stig" char and pick one of the panel/dev to fight them.

A couple improvements come to mind. Many of the improvements I'd like to see would require instituting a 15-minute tape delay. I don't believe this would significantly affect the quality of the coverage, and that belief is an axiom upon which my suggestions are based; if you disagree, don't read on.
- At the start of each match, show the setups of each ship on each side--show fitted modules (and rigs, if allowed), show what implants are plugged in, and show total SP for the character flying the ship.
- Based on this and other information, give us commentary on what compromises have been made. That Curse is fitting a Halo or a Slave set instead of a Talisman set, or neuts in place of NOS--tell us what this means and what it will do to the team's strategy
- This will require modifying the server just a bit to support it when the special EveTV camera client connects, but place an overlay on top of each ship showing its capacitor status. A lot of the most exciting stuff in the tournament is lost to the commentators because they can't see cap status. In the AXE match vs. IAC, the match looked like AXE couldn't lose--heck, all of our ships were sitting at 100% shield. But if you could have seen the cap status, you would have known that AXE was doomed.
- Give us the ability to "strap in" alongside a pilot. The camera view would change to the perspective of one of the competitors, and we'd see him frantically activating his shield booster and micromanaging drones and all the rest. This would really break up the "boring" matches.
- Absolutely, have competitors on for post-match interviews. This is especially easy given a tape delay; you can create the illusion of a timely interview while the fight is fresh in viewers' minds even if it's occurring 5 or 10 minutes after the fight.
- For each fight, if the alliances control space, pop up an Eve map and highlight the controlled regions. Give us an idea if the parties are people who regularly shoot one another, or if they would never see each other over the course of a normal day.
- In the name of all that is holy, dedicate a node to the tournament.

I tuned in on a fair amount of the siradio.fm casts. Lotsa LOL's there, and there of came the idea to further develop it. As it is now, not all EVE players know of siradio, or the fact that had pre-game shows. These two venues should better exposed as a single show.

Hehe, this was something we hit on this time and before in the other two tournaments. As soon as you show any kind of bias the forums and irc explode. People go mad when you slight their side but when its their enemies, it's all fine. So instead we decided to be less picky and just be biased about everything!
And to confirm that we just have to look at SJ's BBQ roast. And I agree that the "Flame"-fest would be unavoidable. That is the reason I recommend 2 outsiders, from the panel and the match commentators, do this in char, for example on siradio, perhaps invite ppl in. Just a 1-3 mins pre-game good natured roasting of the competition. Here lies the trick, they gotta be opposing, blatantly biased for those two teams respectively.

Again, I believe this was something we wanted to do, especially the Damige/Farjung duel or alternatively EVETV vs the MC/viewers/whoever but in the end since the time constraints were tight it never happened. It would be nice to see, but its not something that can be done time and time again unfortuantely.
Time that cruel, biach...

Pretty much the reason I suggest that they do air . Some effective 'voice' moderation should cut down on the spam tho.
What I direction I hope the Tournie will take is to more expose the 'Alliance' part of the extravaganza. The fielded team members are only the visible tip of the machinery larger Alliance support that most, tho not all teams, do gear into these.
It is an Alliance Tournament, be bold about it.
And now for something totally radical. The kudos for this initial idea is not mine, but we rolled around the idea bit on Ts and I think it could bring a whole new level to the CAT (Caldari Alliance Tournament).
This would require some level of Dev-coding, yes. Of any fight on TQ, and as such the CAT figts, the physical data is at some point on some node. Now take that data, mirror it to X many pre-selected and advertised system locations, and set it to ghost the live events.
The Tournie fighters would not see or notice this in anyway. The 'ghost' vessels would but of course be invulnerable to any outside action.
Fans would be able to jump in to one of these systems, warp to a nav-beacon, and watch the show in 3D. Can you imagine the level of entertainment that would yield?

Also, a better match eve client that shows the names of the two teams and the names of the participating team members in bigger text so it can be read with a 500k stream, Possibly the shiptypes as well.
A nice picture-in-picture radar thing maybe that shows where in the arena each team member currently is every so often.

* An EVE-client that can record all things happening on the grid as just positional 3d data. So that then you can 'playback' it later on your client with the resolution you wish and files would be just a few megs long.
Now make this so that you can actually broadcast this, and we can just use our EVE-clients to watch the fireworks.
This would of course greatly improve in-game recording in the normal game too. Get in a fight, start recording, end up with a file of few megs. Play it back later and fraps at the same time.

What I'd like ?
Eve-Tv on Concord's billboards.
How to do : just after a match, when the EVE-TV show is ready, make the file available via an optional (?) patch that people would download before seing it on the billboard. CCP would have to patch the game before so the billboards could play .avi or .whateverEve-TV'sformatisin.
Or anything like that : some people played GTA games, on PC. There was a folder in it to throw some mp3 to play on a custom radio. It could be cool to throw some avi in a Eve folder so concord's billboard could play some video files.
Yes it need "some" work. It could be a great thing also. I'm sure people who are making video files in the game (like Eve-tv, but also any Alliance) would love to play that in the game. Of course, broadcasting Eve-tv ingame downloading video files from a server would create lag, that's why the files should be a pre download, or something separated from what the game needs.
That method could make agree Eve-TV and amateurs who make movies so Eve-tv could choose and incorporate the best movies amateurs made in some advertissements like in real tv (I guess the Corelli would spread their views a little more but hey :p)

Things I want to see on EVE-TV:
More Farjung + Ifni. <----- Fantastic together and know their stuff.
More PiP of pannel's reactions. <----- Thought that was awsome.
More Ouver!
Commentators reading out pilots names + ship's every match.
Catchup / Recap segments.
Less closeup's more general images of the battle.
BIASED COMMONTATORS!! Think it's brilliant if people stop pretending to think a team's crap just because it's their own personal opinion. Makes fantastic veiwing especialy if the commontators don't agree with each other.
More reliable stream with WMP Steam avalible from the beginning. ------------------------------

I would love to hear a replay of the teamspeak/ventrilo audio from fighting teams after the match. Like the panic when someone¦s in trouble or when a player computer crash and that kind of stuff. Many times we ask ourself whats goin on behind the scenes of the teams when fighting. Some interwjues after the match will also solve the problem, but some real action communication from the players would be awesome.
Anyway, EVE-TV is really one of it¦s kind. Keep up the good work.
