Edited by: Kasilof on 13/12/2006 22:54:17 Real new player here less than a week. I just did the tutorial and it sends me to these gates or accelators and wants to teach me how to kill pirates and loot and other very basic stuff. However, all the training zones are being camped and the pirates insta killed by other players. These other players appear to be alts of other players because they seem to have much better guns and such that what a rookie should have.
It seems odd to me that many of these players are just killing easy stuff for loot or bounties or some such thing I don't know about.
I was enjoying EVE alot. However I am now concerned because if the vast world of EVE does not have have content to lure these seemely expereinced players out of the newbie tutorial zones maybe there is something wrong?

No these guys are just bastards. They get nothing out of it other than to annoy real new players, and I don't get why they do it.
There is plenty to do in EVE, and its freeform nature is both a blessing and a curse, which can be seen by the actions of such stupid people as those who camp the newby training deadspace pockets.

Actually, they're only doing that for your benefit. They get nothing worthwhile, they have to be in rookie ships to do it, and it's time consuming and boring. It's worthwhile to them because it makes your life more difficult. There's a lot of that in EvE. There are also opportunities to kick the crap out of the people who do it, or to put yourself in a position where the cowards won't take the necessary risk to do you harm.
You can quit and go do something else that you'll enjoy, or you can tough it out and get to see how this world changes as you learn about it. I think you should stay. -------------- Civis Ascendant Sum |

DonĘt those pirates drop salvage? Easy kills for fast salvage sound like incentive doesnĘt it?

This is the reason my dad never finished the tutorial. I had someone at work who I started in the game, he spent 2 hours trying to finish that part of the tutorial because someone was popping the starter frigs.
People should get banned for that. There is absolutely no reason for anyone who's finished the tutorial to be killing the starter NPCs.

Id recommend petitioning a GM about them, under harrasment. There is plenty of space for them to be jackasses elsewhere in Eve. I cant see the GMs being too pleased with people messing over the new player experience.

Not being funny or anything, but I would like you to explain, if you can, why they are doing it for his benefit? I mean I'm sure in your reply there will be some strange twist of logic to justify it. Well, lets hear it.

Edited by: Tasuric Orka on 14/12/2006 01:02:04 This is the kind of crap older players have to deal with, however.. to do it to someone that can barely open their cargo hold is quite low. CCP should protect these uber newbies, i can asure you that they will lose and have lost many subscriptions due to this.
Its the friggen TUTORIAL for christ sake, your whole self proclaimed eve badass "lolz adapt or die nub" arguments have no place here.

Perfectly alright per the game mechanics.
If CCP says its alright for some inty to locate and fly through my lvl 4 mission and agro the whole thing, or snake the mission can. Then its alright for me to grief all newbs in any form which they are found. After all the GOAL of the game is to grind against RL players at all times correct? ALL PvP all the time, forget about PvE in any form.
BTW (for the uninitiated) you can buy the kill certificates in station, you donĘt have to actually kill the rats.

when I was a rookie a month or so ago there was this guy named 'knight something' sitting around popping pirates. I was collecting the cargo containers from the other newbies who had abandoned them (or the game) so I thought. he pounded me to 5% structure in 3 seconds (mad skills, thinks I) and when I asked him why he said to teach me a lesson. Oddball.
But, it might be cool for one of the merc orgs to patrol these encounter tutorial areas.

Never a truer word MeestaPenni...................
Thing that strikes me is the inconsistency present in claiming 'adapt or die' and acting all hardarsed about it and then claiming as most of those unfortunates do that, 'it's only a game'.
If it's only a game, why take yourself so seriously that you're intent on ****ing someone off in RL? Which, let's face it, can be the only reason people do it because rats in the tutorial won't be dropping uber implants or a t2 railgun.
I note that no-one responsible for such idiocy has seen to fit to defend themselves...................... |

This is about the lowest thing I've heard of, and Eve has some very vile activites in it. Either ban them, find a way to keep them out, or give us a way to wtfbbq these ja**a**es. The tutorial should not be messed with. Griefing the rest of us, while d*** annoying is acceptable becase we can eventully find the brat and blast them. These guys can't even fight back, or Concord will annihilate them.
It's great being Amarr, ain't it?

There's a work-around, but, of course, it involves extra work on the newbie's part, which is unfair to the newbies. I say ban the griefers, but in the meantime, Kasilof you can try this:
The School of Applied Knowledge doesn't just have one office in Todaki, it has many satellite offices. They're all schools, they all have skills for sale. Some are in systems with other stations from other corporations, but some are in systems where the only station is the School station.
Those stations will have an agent that will talk to you for tutorial missions, and they'll have the tutorial beacons. You can just move there, reset your tutorial, and have your startup experience in peace. It'll probably be way less crowded than Todaki too.
If you want to get a list of all the offices for School of Applied Knowledge, dock at Todaki and click the blue info button in the upper right corner of your screen. Then switch to the Settled Systems tab.
Go down the list, looking to see if any of those star systems have only one station listed, and are in high security (you check the Orbit Items tab for each system you click on the blue button for).
Ichinumi looks like a good candidate, for example. Also, Hitanishio, Aokannitoh, Akiainavas, there's a bunch of them.
You can cancel the tutorial, pick up your belongings and go to one of these, dock at that station, then restart the tutorial, or just skip the tutorial and just talk to the agent there.
All of you starting in different schools, I'm pretty sure there are multiple "school" offices, with the school, the agent, and the beacons available to you. Much less crowded than the regular startup systems, too. Just move out of the crowded main system, go to a satellite office.
Hope that helps.
Griefers suck. I hope CCP griefs them back.

WOW looks like I started something haha. I did not mean to start a fight. Well I did manage to finish the turtorial. I logged back in a few hours later and finished it up. I was the only player at the first training area I warped too. I hope CCG will work on keeping people not doing the tutorials away from the newbie area. It was frustating. This game is difficult enough to learn as it is. HAHA
I am enjoying the game alot. I have played several rpg's and this one looks to have the hardest learning curve yet. However, it looks like it might have a lot more depth than your typical whack a mole game.

I expect they are hoping the newbi players try to take stuff from the wrecks so they can get another kill for their killboards.
The other thing to watch out for is cans floating in space labeled 'Free Stuff, for new players', this is nearly always a trap and they are just waiting for you to take something so they can blow up your ship.
I would suggest you look for a newbi friendly corp that will help you get started, there are a fair number out there. You will learn a lot more from other players than you will from the tutorial missions.
Also take a look at the link in Kylania's sig 'Newbie Skills Roadmap' it's a useful list to have handy when you are getting started.

Edited by: Hinterwaeldler on 14/12/2006 11:58:08 I'm hanging around the training deadspaces a lot lately, and it's for one simple reason: rig components. The place is scattered with wrecks, and the beautifull thing is they are from different pirate factions! Components for all rig types, in the heart of caldari space ... It's insane how many components you can get by hopping between the entrance gates for half an hour.

Normally , it should get them banned in no time. While it's ok to hang out in starting systems for skillbooks or maybe afk mining , hijacking training complexes and interfering with the tutorial is obviously against the Terms of Service.

I think the Devs should catch the people in the act then move there ships to the furthest point in 0.0 with a pod that cannot selfdestruct.
Let them try and get through some alliance space to get back home.
