Edited by: Elliot Reid on 14/12/2006 12:16:56 I like Gatorade, drank loads of it last time I was on holiday in the US. As for beef jerky I have a good idea what it is but don't like the sound of it.

Gatorade's that funky sports drink that gets absorbed faster into your system than water, and so according to the ads and studies I've seen, is better when you're active, or just had a workout.
Beek jerky's that smoked beef slices, flavored and stuff, and can be eaten like potato chips, but be warned, its jerky beef. I know, I had it slap my face trying to tear off a bite when it came loose out of my hand and WHAM! Right into the eye.
Now I'm scared of jerky stuff

What sort of channels/times? I mean, you can see anything if you watch the right channels, but Sky One, one of the biggest general entertainment channels there is (since I assume that's what you are referring to), censors things beyond belief during the day, and tends to forget to show the uncut versions at night too. But that's more incompetence and looking for an easy life than actually caring about the content . ----------

Edited by: Mar Idoun on 14/12/2006 17:08:12 cocacola is too old to have its name processed by computer. I think it's more a product of agressive advertising in every corner of the world for such a long time that has made coke so recognizable.
and a lot of americans, in my area at least know what sheperds pie, toad in the hole and some others are. Bubbles and squeak is a lot like what we call hash, a lot people it for breakfast but there's more of a meat element to it, usually cornedbeef because it's cheap i guess. Shepard's pie is probably the best dish ever created on this earth.

The difference in cultures, even within the U.S. are astounding. I've lived in California and Colorado, far enough away from eachother that my experience lead me to believe most of the U.S. was not much different. Then I spent some time in the Midwest (Minnesota) and East Coast (Connecticut) and I continually had to remind myself that I was indeed in the same country. I think the two images of the U.S. that most of the world pictures, unfortunately, are perverted stereotypes of Texans and Southern Californians. People write us off as ignorant, gluttonous savages in most cases. It saddens me that most of the world has one idea of the U.S. and it's usually negative.

I only heard about Marmite and Bovril when I was in Shinra.
Having lived in three countries, and in the US currently, there are a few things I miss that I cant seem to get in Boston:
1. Crush (an orange soda brand) 2. Galaxy Ripple (heard they only make them in the middle east now) 3. Can't remember the name, it was a chocolate egg with some swiss boy on it, also came with a toy of sorts, white rapping with orange base.

when i went to Cali once(im from CT) i found atleast the people in sanfran seem more laid back, here in CT everyone seems in so much of a rush. but my stereotype of Socal is constant sun and people who dont know what snow or rain is. and yes i ROFL at video of the southern states when they get an inch of snow and people slide everywhere and towns close for weather i dont even turn my 4wd on for.

there are definite regional differences in the US, some differences are so overt and radical that go far beyond lexical differences. The northeast, where I live is in a state of being rushed, being on time, early even, is very important. Also from my experiences we are a lot more focused on being politically correct and also have an attitude that conserves the idea that we are the epicenter of the United States as the Northeast coast is where the first colonies were established and as a result where much of the war for independence was fought. It's a pretty snobby attitude, it is. But I call it home. It seems NE United States = Caldari :P

Guess what, they failed, I tried ordering Coca Cola of a dane this summer, I had to have another dane, who somehow grasped what I was saying, translate it to him. I didn't whine enough to get the order across, note to foreigners, when trying to speak danish sound like you're in dispair, it actually helps to get the message across.
And yes, the brand is way too old to have its name computer generated in the first place.

Did a bit of research and found out that Gatorade is not the same as Lucozade since they are both made by two different companies, but offer the same service. One has caffeine (Lucozade) whilst another mostly doesnt (Gatorade has a couple of version that have caffeine).
I could go on and on about em, but thats just me

Edited by: slapp on 15/12/2006 21:03:46 I'd pick Powerade over Gatorade any day in the week. I mean, BlueBerry looks like some sort of cleaning chemical. Lime is simply grose. And that other flavour (dwarf oranges :P Can't remember the name atm) is also disgusting.
Powerade on the other hand has Lime flavour I'd kill for.
And they are quite expensive, but they do give you an energy boost before/after the exercise. It maybe just the placebo effect, but it works nontheless :)
(had been training swimming for 10 years and I've been through most of these energy drinks. From those with caffeine to eau naturelle :S)
Oh, and I know what Beef Jerky is. Cartoon Network and Johnny Bravo did their job quite well

And most of the other things the UK have (but no Jaffa Cakes ). We can also spell Now, who here has vegimite? BTW, my parents are english so I've been there quite a few times.
I love australians. You guys manage to take the best bits of the UK, the best bits of the US, and create the abomination of taste that is vegemite...
Seriously though, only a few people really eat vegemite here. Its mainly here for the tourists.

Originally by: FooB2 i once told an american that in the UK we have to have a liscence to legally watch TV.
he nearly fainted over vent. apparently they didnt know this.
i know its how things like the BBC are paid for and why the BBC has better programing then our PBS here in the US.
my question is how do they handle hotels? i mean every room in a hotel has a TV set does a hotel pay for 600+ sets or does the TV authority have special setups for such locations(ie a bulk contract similar to Enterprise level software licensing).
oddly enough here in the US if you have cable you in a way pay a per home TV tax in this little thing called a franchchise fee

Makes sense really, since most people are right handed, so you want to keep that hand on the wheel as much as possible. Thus right hand drive.

when its a left hand drive car with a manual gearbox, not really.
i heard that its because henry ford figured it was cheaper to have the steering wheel on the left (for some reason)

The whole difference in the driving customs (between world and UK ok and a couple other countries) is from what i have read that during the middle ages where hand guns where not known (or used) that this way it was keeping your sword (which was resting on your left lap for the right handed thus majority) out of reach of the by passer. Also it brought the sword arm in the road immediately which was easier for defense against thugs and other threats coming from the opposite side of the road.
It was a custom that was passed along to the car drivers (logical if we realize that car and horses co existed for some time) I have read it once (don't remember though where) as an explanation for that strange way to drive in UK. The rest of the nations that adopted this was due to British influence. Maybe i am wrong (i am not from UK) maybe i am right.
------- Nobody can be exactly like me. Even I have trouble doing it. |

Jaffa Cakes are basically a sort of cake/biscuit thing, with orange jelly-stuff on top, and then the top (including the orange stuff) is covered in chocolate.
They are half biscuit, half cake and all awesome.

the driving thing started with carraiges. most countries that are left hand drive are influneced by the UK. thailand being on of the few non UK colonies to have left hand drive. and i belive they were modernized via UK efforts 100+ years ago.
The Us did it to be opposite of the english after the revolutionary war.(war for independace) i myself prefer right hanbd drive as i find it easier to steer with the left hand since the advent of power steering. and find i need my dominate hand to shift gears. but i have feeling that is more how i learned to drive.

I would say Japan driving on the left is more unusual than Thailand. Thailand afterall, is sandwiched between former British colonies of Malay (now Malaysia) and Burma.
As for which is better to drive on the left or the right, well having done both, neither seems any better than the other you get used to whichever you do more. But the use of your right hand to steer, as more people are right handed makes sense...
Now American football - wtf is that all about?

They are legally cakes actually as this means they can avoid having to pay VAT on them, if they were biscuits they would, since a 'chocolate-covered biscuit' is a luxury item.
