I've been in for 5 or 6 months, and I've had a lot of fun. As for whiners, I just don't recruit them into my corporation. :) Get in with a good group of people, and it won't be a problem.
Our office is at Oursulaert VII Moon 1, if you're interested... ;)

The whiners aren't the intelligent community.
The intelligent community is actually inside the game, playing, not jibba jabbing about how awful Eve is.
My only gripe with Eve is technical problems.
The Eve concept is awesome, I just wish it were well-implemented.
On the one hand...if I make one mistake...I lose 150 mil isk worth of ship.
On the other hand, from time to time it take 10+ seconds to turn on module.
How can I accept laggy PVP when in PVP there is so much to lose?

Thanks for your replies peeps. I'm glad to hear there's a good many people out in the game who are more sociable.

Well, I think since you are just a player character here and not really yourself, you can act the way you want to act without it having much negative impact. In fact, some people even become known in the Eve universe simply because they annoy others so much.
Lol.

Eve is by far the most open ended and non-restrictiive MMO in existance.
The down side is that it makes it really hard for the devs to quatify the signifigance of anything in the game. So when they make changes it frequently breaks part of the game till after they get a chance to observe and rebalance.
Wherever you went - here you are.

Go to any major MMO's forums and its just like this.

What worries me is that the complainers which seem to engulf these forums make up the majority of players online. -----------
no, only a small majority of whiners make up the game.
but whiners by nature have to express themselvs regardless if they have any brains or not, so they post on the boards.

Although I've only been playing a short while, I can say that Eve is a LOT more complex than a couple other MMORPG's I've tried. And that's a good thing, IMO.

Whiners do not make-up the majority of players in EVE. Whiners are just the most dedicated at making posts on the forums, as with almost any other game or forum out there. Don't let the forums mislead you, it's very easy to be fooled into thinking EVE is overflowing with whiners by just looking at the forums. The fact is that a thousand people whining on the forums appears like a whole lot but really is a tiny number in relation to actually subscriber base.

I see cheap shots are also apparent on the forums. You have neither answered any part of my valid question or attempted to add anything further to the conversation. I guess it's easier to ridicule people than to engage the brain. Enjoy your ignorance, I'm sure it suites you.

Having played a large number of different MMOs, there are many things they all seem have in common:
Every single one of them is filled with people who moan.
Every single community thinks it is filled with more intelligent people than every other MMO.
Every single MMO forum is spammed to death by a tiny minority of the actual players.
Every MMO is stuffed with fanboys (of course) who blindly support their chosen game regardless of any real or imagined issues.
You will 'meet' exactly the same groups of personalites in every MMO and on every MMO forum....after a while you begin to think that it is actually the SAME people playing each and every single game
EVE forums are certainly no better than any other MMO, it may seem better, but that is mainly down to size of population and mods.

Negative posts about game play exists in every game and they do not make up the majority of the player's opinions about the game. Most experienced MMOG players roll with the changes and continue play. But sometimes it does get so bad, SOE(tm), that people do quit the game and move on to other games and that speaks louder to the developers and designers than any forum post ever will. I will say that the people who take the time to post issues with the game, in whatever way they are able to do so, are doing us a service in pointing out potential issues in game play. If those posts bother you then do what I do and ignore them.

The WoW forums would reverse the way your blood flows. One of the first things I noticed after I switched to Eve were the forums, and that even the baseless complaints that all people are compelled to make at times were still far, far, far more coherent and civilized than those of other games, lord especially WoW. And it isn't just a case of there "always being someone worse off," or of WoW's player base being so enormous that it gets more of the bad as well as the good, but I firmly believe Eve is a swirling voodoo nexus that mysteriously attracts non-retards to glom themselves unto it. A major contributing factor to why I play.

Ive played pretty much every MMO that has hit north american soil...and then some. And the only Forums I found any intelligence in was Ulitma online waaayyyyyy back in the day (before gamers expected the world) and EvE online. Trust me Anarchy online, WoW and the like's forums were a ****ing contest for 12 year olds. I loved WOW but i will not play it because the maturity level of the players is just not there.

Originally by: Benny Baker Hi All, Been playing Eve for about 4 months now and this is my first real attempt at playing a MMORPG (played Guildwars, but thats not the same). My first reactions were amazement and awe at the sheer scope of the gameplay available. Now despite a few technical hitches here and there and the sometimes laggy play, I've had a great time playing this Sci-Fi feast of a game. I like the fact that you stand to lose a great deal in assets/Isk if you don't take precautions, a feature which is one of the games most endearing qualities I believe. So Far so good right. This is where things get confusing for me, cos I read the forums and am amazed at the number of idiotic responses from so called intelligent people, *****ing and whining about every aspect of the game. For sure there are people with genuine technical problems and they can get damn annoying. What I can't understand is the down right shameful comments some people make towards other players and especially CCP. The game mechanics are very complex and are tweaked now and again in response to genuine issues regarding game play balancing. No game is gonna be perfect and considering how ambitious the Eve project is, I think CCP have done a grand job of delivering a masterpiece of online gaming. What worries me is that the complainers which seem to engulf these forums make up the majority of players online. If so, I'm not sure I wanna continue playing this game, cos it's the players that make or break online gaming for me and if this is the norm for MMORPGs, I think ill stick to LAN gaming. A real shame considering the quality of this game.
It's the norm of every MMOG to complain on the forums. The forums also make up the minority of players. Don't worry, what people complain about on the forums I've never even heard mention of in local/alliance/corp/gang/squad/wing/personal chats at all. You can simply ignore the forums and you will effectively ignore the complainers.

EVE has by far the most intelligent community of (major) MMORPGs.
If you honestly think that the forums here are bad, you really need to try out the World of Warcraft forums or the like, where even the "intelligent posts" are worse than the worst you'd find here.
At least in EVE, most of the whines are pretty well-written!
Some times I think this is not true, sometimes the WoW forums are more intelligent then our 'grown up, adult' Eve forums.
Sometimes I doubt that "Adults" play this game. Sometimes I think these forums are FAR worse then the WoW forums.
Yea the truth hurts but thats what I think and its slowly becoming a fact.
There's a "quit eve and go back to wow" in almost every damn thread made here, and most of those are posted in threads where people ask for help. Thats very mature then huh ?
I think you guys should open your eyes, post only if you have something useful to say and grow up!

The explanation is easy. Noone complains about the stuff they like. The voices of whiners are dominant, because the majority of people who are quite satisfied don't often feel the need to say so.
As for the original question - yes, all MMORPGs are like this in this regard.
Every single time the devs make a change in any MMORPG, statistics dictate that some people will not like it. Those people will complain. Since most people aren't game designers, most of them will say nonsense, propose fixes that are much worse than the problem, and fail to understand why they are ignored.
Everyone else probably won't say anything, because they'll be busy playing. And so the forums fill with garbage.

i think you r problem is that you read the forms..
I have found unless you totally ignore the posters and look for the few gems, the forms will totally crush your will to play eve..
My advise is to stop reading the boards, and have fun playing eve.
