I'm using a Heron for high-sec exploration as I take Archaeology, Hacking, and Astrometrics to V. They're all at IV right now. (Looking forward to t2 hacking mods and ships.)
I found for the first time Limited Sleeper Cache in high sec. I looked it up to know what to expect. I survived exactly two hacking minigames; the first one just barely.
Here's what I'm dying to know.
In both mini-games, the first defensive node I uncovered was a Virus Supressor, so immediately my strength is halved from 20 (i thought it was 25) down to 10. The very next node I ran into was a restoration node with coherence 80.
Is this common? This was super depressing, watching the suppressor grow strong so quickly I never stood a chance to take it out, and making attacking other nodes all but impossible. Even had my strength been 40 from a t2 bonused ship / mods / skills, this would have been near impossible.
I understand the game is supposed to be hard, but this combination, running into it the first 2 out of 2 times I've seen a hard version of the mini-game, was really disheartening. Was I really unlucky, or should I always expect to see both a suppresor AND restoration node before I find any kind of useful utility? (By the time I found a kernel rot or secondary vector, the suprresor was at a coherence of 360. It was game-over nearly from the start.)

During testing I have uncovered 2 virus suppressor nodes at a time. I have had upwards to 4 appear in a single round of the mini-game. Luck does have some to do with it, as RNG determines what nodes can appear.
A two nodes that need to be destroyed before any progression is made are the virus suppressor and the restoration node. Destroy these nodes immediately as they appear, they can make the mini-game un-winnable.
If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

Also do not open immediately a node with white circle. It might be very bad surprise. Open it when all available nodes are open |

If he doesn-¦t fly a covops and/or T2 modules he probably don-¦t have the strenght/coherence enough to kill the supressor. Maybe if at full coherence, but he will be almost depleted.
I-¦d say kill inmediatly the restoration nodes, and wait for a helping node to deal with the virus supressor.
Once you have a covops with T2 modules, it gets much more easy ( go for archaeology first, the money is on relics )

Heron with T1 modules in sleepers site? They are for leveled up explorers with proper hulls and fits. As for suppressors. I had 3 in a row once. Random is random.

In a limited site all the damage is avoidable by properly hacking the cans and navigating with care. With a guide in the browser and some luck in the hackings, a Heron with T1 modules can do it.
There are high chances of messing a hack and getting burst, but the chance of getting like 70mill against the potential loss of 1mill seems good enough to me. |

In my first weeks of playing I hacked a wormhole "red" can in a VENTURE with a T1 module, go figure how much luck I had XD. |

It's possible, and it's good thing, you don't have to use T2 because there is no hard threshold. T2 just increase your chance to hack by very large margin.

Use an Astero. Armor tanked Astero can easily take on the lower-end sleeper sites. |

Thinking back on it, I believe I just got a little more unlucky than the typical "hard" hacks.
I remember more clearly now. This is what happened during BOTH hacks:
Within my first 2-3 clicks, I encountered a suppresor. Boom: My strength immediately drops to 10. (My coherence is 65).
THEN, within another 2-3 cliks, I encounter a restoration node. (80/10).
So immediately I know that without help, I can not kill the restoration node. But since the suppressor was the only other exposed defensive node, guess what. It gets its coherence jacked every round. So I pretty much lose all hope of getting my strength back up.
During the second hack, I encountered 7 defensive subsystems before my first helpful utility, and by then it was far too late to recover.
I get the whole RNG thing and that the t2 mods and t2 bonused ships will make a huge difference. It just felt like really early suppressor + really early restoration node + no early helpful utilities was just a nasty, nasty combo. I was hoping not all hard-level hacks started off like that. |

They are not all that bad, but then again RNG is random.
On another note, I have and, it is quite possible to complete high end variations of the hacking mini-game with nothing more than a rookie ship and t1 modules, Skills at IV.
If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

If you are an explorer -- get the T2 analyzers - they are worth it. If you operate in low or null prioritize the relic analyzer. If you do cache sites prioritize the data analyzer.
If you fail a relic can in a cache site you can usually just try again. If you fail a data can without sufficient tank prepare to buy a new ship.

And covert beacons are time based. You might be able to get 2 cans, but getting all of them is not possible. Use a tanky T3 or do them with a friend. |

GAH...
I found a Limited Sleeper Cache AGAIN in high sec. :)
I'm not going to run it - I need to go to bed and am not confident in my hacking abilities.
Just out of curiosity -
A) If this site is left untouched, does it despawn from its current location at downtime? B) How would I go about entering into a trustworthy transaction (for both sides) to sell the location?

Selling something that anyone can scan down is usually not a good idea.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. So, why do I post here?
I'm stubborn.
