I think everyone would agree 90km+ to get to a gate in mission is down right rediculouse 30-40km would be ideal, kinda sux to travel 90km at 137 m/s i know most of my corp mates no longer do many mission due to this fact. If anyone agrees please post a response see if we cant get this fixed.

I totaly agree. The only work around is to have a perfect tank and to approch the gate directly and kill anything on the way to the gate. But if you have to warp out of a mission it take too long to be back at your mates.

I usually reach the gate by the time I killed all the rats anyway, so I don't really see it as a problem. Just approach the gate while you're killing.

Can be fairly difficult sometimes with some missions... for most people anyways. I can bum rush pockets with my logidomi on my tail. =)
The long gate travels between stages are the devs' way of making sure there is at least some control of how fast you can run a mission.

It is the perfect time to be ganked in a mission too.
Unless the next gate is directly in line with some celestial object you will be a fat, slow target moving in the wrong direction.
A fast tackler with a 20 km scrambler and you are toast.

i tend to agree, we play eve, play is the key word. Why put in things like 90 km gate for nothing, i remember i did a 85 km gate travel in a lvl 1 without a single rat in the whole room, that was long and stupid.

these gates, warp beacons were closer before and it was fine. I see no reason why now I should travel 90km in slow ship thru L4 missions. It will only gave time for gankers to find me in, because slow me down a lot. Even I do move directly to gate all NPCs are wrecks on half way to gate :(
AB is no option because cost precisious med slot and if I'm webed (most of time) it mean nothing for speed boost.

I like the idea that fitting an afterburner gives you an advantage...
These missions are also ideal for lowsec mission running, once you are past the long gap, you have ages worth of time with the hostiles on scan before they can catch up.
Between corps atm, the NPC one is strictly a temporary thing. RAWR!111 Sig Hijackz0r!!11 - Immy |

Edited by: Ironnight on 28/12/2006 17:17:43 /signed and I got a corpmate that would sign it to, however he is halfway between two gates on stage 2 in a mission......
Just to add to the fun, the corpmate also have connection problems and have been disconnected twiced

Amen. If you choose to make your money from missions then you're screwed. If you don't have time to wait the 6+ hours to do a mission (most of which is now travel) then you don't play.
If CCP is trying to drive mission-runners out of the game by frustrating them, they are doing a great job. Logging in every 4 hours to reject another mission you can't perform is ridiculous.
I'm about to close down my second account and keep my first one up ONLY for the hope that this may one day change. That will only last so long, though.
People argue when their personal views are at odds, whereas a debate is a more formal method of analyzing the angles of an issue. |

I agree. Looking at gate coming slowly closer is not fun. I dont mind if I have actually something to do while I travel - ie. enough NPC's to kill but just mindless timesink in the form of flying is fustrating. I also dislike missions with a lot of small targets (also one of the new ways to make missions longer) but I can live with that. At least I have something to shoot. Especially annoying is if you find both in same mission (pirate slaughter comes to mind - 90 km between the gates and a lot of small low bounty targets to hack thru).

Hate to burst peoples bubbles, and I'm prolly saying something that everyone knows anyway, but it's probably designed to rope in the effectiveness of mission farming, which is quite understandable. Longest I've had to travel after killing all NPC's is about 40km, which is covered in about 4 minutes. Considering ice miners wait 10 minutes (raw) per cycle, It sounds like a fair call.
And as someone mentioned, fit an AB if you dont like it. Serious, if your tank and DPS is THAT good that you have a heap of time to just wander to the gate bored, you can definately sack some of it in favour of the AB.
If you REALLY want something to moan about, try my situation. Network at the sharehouse I live in uses some wierd cache-transmit stuff, basically means if you arent *actively* requesting data, the server will cache it up and send it in periodic 'blasts'. Cutting a long story short, it fairly divides the bandwidth between my mates who *dont* game or use continuous services. The effect on EVE for me? If I'm not issuing commands, chatting, or doing something every 30-60 seconds, I timeout from the game. Not the nicest thing when you've told your BS to attack a target which takes longer than that timeframe to kill and even more of a ***** when you've just unlocked a DS gate with the consumable key, only to time out travelling to the next gate after clearing the room. ----------------- One word,, emo,,,

pirate slaughter yeah.... 3 stage First stage gate 90km second 75km doing first one second one =>CTD => doing first one second one => 3rd stage tough i need to warp out => doing first one second one => mission finish 90+75+90+75+90+75= 435km speed round 180m/S 2416sec so 40min doing nothing but watching my ship moving... so nice ok fit an AB and so add one more warp out and thats still 30min of moving...
40km 45km for a gate should be a maximum...
