Sick of losing ships to CCP and lag/disconnect
Fear not.
Buy 1 x Caldari Navy Raven (normal Raven will suffice just....)
7 Tech 2 Cruise 1 Gist XL Booster (I use B type) 2 x Tech II Amps 3 x Invuln IIs
4 PDU II 1 BCU II
3 Cap Recharge Rigs (could do 2 recharge and 1 bettery, didnt test stacking results)
B4 you go into the mission, whatever it is, switch on your shield booster. 1060 rep every 4 secs. Nothing breaks it, not even the Angel Extravaganza Extra Mission.
Safe as houses. xx Merry Christmas.
I'm such a nice person.

They're right there mate, next to mine...
Well, I guess what he meant was that with the new cap rigs you can perma-run a gist x-large booster. He's right I think as I saw this discussed extensivelly somewhere else recently, which of course makes this post eeem, unecessary, but, hey, a christmass gift is always welcome even when useless. It's the thought that counts.

PS. With maxed cap skills you can use an x-type and drop a PDU for another BCU.

I can think of at least one mission where killing the wrong npc first would bring upon you enough dps to break your tank (blood raider blockade, where you can get up to 22 BS, 15 or so cruisers and loads of destroyers at the same time), but that's pretty extreme anyway...
Wouldn't 2 of those rigs that reduce the cap used by shield boosters and hardeners be more effective than 2 cap recharge rigs?
I'm going with two of those rigs, one cap recharge rig, and the usual T2 XL boost/SBA II/4 active hardeners, and probably 3 PDU II/2 BCU II. For angel missions. For serpentis/guristas I have an Astarte, which do the job better. ------------------------------------------ Every ship has a base 60-70% resist against the primary damage type of the race that is the least able to vary it's damage types. |

No those mods aren't as effective. The reason people can sustain x-large gist boosters is because they use less than half the cap of a regular x-large cap booster and therefore benefit from those rigs half as much which makes them less effective then using using cap recharging rigs.

My booster in that setup gives me 1060 Rep every 4 seconds for 176.6 cap. I have fire rate of 8.4ish seconds on my tech 2 cruise launchers.
With the setup I have outlined, the tank runs indeffinately. All in all it works well.
I was sick of losing ships to level 4 missions because of module lag etc, this is my solution.
2 bill well invested tbh.

i have a somewhat stupid question. i could work it out, by checking it under the "variations" tab, but that is rather tedious... maybe somebody knows it by heart and cares for enlightening me: how are the gist Shield boosters ranked? i mean, which is the worst, which is the best? do they all have the same cycle time? at what price range am i looking?
im sick of armour tanking missions...

Gist X type: best cap efficiency, largest boost per second, most cap used per second Gist B type: middle of the road efficiency, middle of the road boost per second, middle of the road cap per second used Gist C type: poorest cap efficiency, poorest boost per second, least cap used per second
Gist A types do not drop larger than small in size AFAIK.
Obviously, the ideal situation would be sustaining a Gist X type XL shield booster, but the X type is the hardest to pull that off with. The easiest to permatank is the Gist C type, but you suffer some pretty severe performance drops as compared to an X type. This, combined with price for Gist X type mods, makes the Gist B type large and extra large boost modules a popular choice.
XL boosters: Gist C: 450-650 million Gist B: 600-800 million Gist X: 1-1.2 billion J.A.F.O.

Once you do the lv4 mission once you can do it 100 times without fear of losing your ship. and if you are in low sercuity, good luck flying around in that 2.5bil CNR.
just fit 7siege+3bcu setup, fit whatever tank around it, with good skills and experience you can still pull off 95% lv4 missions, and much much faster too compared to 7 cruise, and much cheaper to lose.

Can someone please say the exact name of the "cap" rig module that is being discussed. I'm trying to find them in contracts and I have no idea what to look for. Thanks in advance!

To be honest, at 3bil, thats roughly 25-30 ravens with t1 fitouts. If you could get 25+ ravens on your lvl4, then you deserve to be able to afk it --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

Cheaper? A bit less skill intensive? No problem:
Standard Raven 6 Arbalest CMs, 2 Heavy NOS Gist XL B Type, Gist B Type SBA, 1 Invul T2, 1 Gist C Explo (against Angels, any other rat specific T2 fits here, too), 2 CPR T2 3 PDU T2, 1 BCU T2 and 1 beta cap flux 29% (yeah, right these sh*** flux thingies!)
No Rigs
With 5 LG Crystals it gives you 1001 boost / 4 secs / 24/7 cap stable w. 8,5mio SP!
Cons: - less resistance
I haven't tried the AE Bonus 'till now but even against EM heavy rats (Amarr navy e.g.) i never dropped below 50% shield before the heavy dmg NPC's popped... --

Yeah, but the point of the OP was that his setup can tank all lvl4's afk forever. Severe lag means your weapons, even though activated, do not fire (and yes, I tested this post rev - Good old vengence bost squashed in armour - sever lag, and when lag clears, he is full shield again, and damage logs confirm lack of missiles) so your setup could lose out to module lag.
Stragely enough, your shild booster still appears to work when lagged though :) --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

i have a pretty similar set up, the only thing i am unsure of
I used to use a XL clarity, now i use a XL T2, takes alot more cap, but much more boost. Think i should keep the t2 ?

Personally, my own preferred method for this is to run lev 4s in a t1 phoon. If you scout around for a cheap one, insurance will cover ship + fittings easially. And its certainly alot more entertaining than sitting like a lump on a log and just pressing f1-6 in a zombielike fashion.
Its also totally worth the replies when corpmates ask what your flying and what your setup is.

This can do 95% of all missions.. and costs nothing compared to these, there just isn't reason to be spending 2 bil on a mission ship.

Throw in 5 heavy shield drones from another char and you'll basiclly never have to touch the booster.

If they do, they wreck the faction item market and if that happens, running 0.0 plexes will become obsolete for most parts which in return will stop the ISK from flowing around causing overall (although not major) stagnation of market.
Never treat the symptom, always treat the cause.

The cause being that missions, like complexes are too predictable allowing people to learn them inside out and then semi afk them.
Hence my suggestion of a random factor.

Lets be honest here - Most people mission run to get isk for pvp. Some run it for relaxations, but the main reason is more intresting way of getting isk than, say mining or whatever. At the end of the day, all isk is basically useless unless it is being used in pvp or invested to generate isk for..... more pvp. You guys have no idea who the OP is, and he sure aint no carebear!
If he spend 2-3bil buying 20-30 ravens with cheap t1 fittings and FOF cruise, they could afk lvl4's as well. Lag is the random faction in lvl4's atm, and the most isk people make in lvl4's - they less time they spend mission running and the more time they spend pvping. --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |
