Edited by: Kamazani on 03/01/2007 19:30:57 CCP can't do anything about the log-off feature, if they did they'd have a TON of people petitioning for replaced items because CCP can't say anything if it was in fact a disconnect by someones ISP.
might as well quite crying. =) good luck gate campers. =D
besides, they already did something about it, but it didn't work and created more problems.... --------------------------- by: GinoShin on 21/11/2006 11:41:44 whats evemon is it like a jamican wiseman? |

This is absolutely not the definition of a cheat. It is not up to players to decipher the motivation of design choices made by the developer. Rocket jumping in Quake was never "intended" by the developers. Logging out to reset aggro in EverQuest was an "unintended" consequence and used by players to beat encounters. There are countless more examples of players using game features in unintended ways. The only intention shown to players is the actual behavior of the gameplay. Guessing at the developer's motivation behind their decisions is irrelevant.
Given that they have taken measures (unsuccessfull) to ensure that logging does not happen in the fashion it does, I don't think that its a large leap of faith...
Your exploiting a weakness in the mechanics, to give your self an advantage. As well as using out of game actions to further your charactor in game. I don't think that I can make the cheating case any more clearer then that.
CTRL-Q is not the evasive action button. Its an unpunished, and unpatched cheat.

UltraWasps were an unintended consequence too, but lots of people got banned for them...

Again, it matters not at all what CCP wanted to do because what they put in and got is the system in place now. Every game developer out there wants a balanced game and may try to do things toward that end, but the only thing that is relevant to the player is how the game actually behaves. CCP could have (vainly) attempted to ban the process by threats while leaving the mechanic alone, but they haven't even done that. They have plainly stated it is legal, though not the result they had in mind.
Quote: Your exploiting a weakness in the mechanics, to give your self an advantage.
That's exactly right, I'm exploiting a "weakness" in the mechanics. Exploiting is also what I am doing when I use towers offensively in Warcraft and when I turn off lightmap lighting in Quake 3 to see my opponent better. Looking back, I was also exploiting when I used combos in Street Fighter 2, which were originally a bug! But what I am not doing is cheating, by using something external to the game that not everyone has inherent access to. Which leads to my next point:
Quote: As well as using out of game actions to further your charactor in game.
Last time I checked, I recall the logout button being in the game. I'm gonna take a wild guess and presume that the button and words were drawn up by a artist employed by CCP and not sneakily placed by some malicious player under CCP's nose. There also happens to be very purposeful and specific warping and ship disappearing that occurs when that button is pressed. I don't know about you, but ships warping and disappearing sounds all very "ingame" to me.

Well, I'd die for my corp mates any day of the week And I hope you wouldn't feel bad
Of course all of us think about using the "save me lord" button, but anyone who has ever fought me will know that I never wear stabs ( also pre kali ) and I never log. Yes I have been killed many times
Bubble camps do not spring up by accident...it takes a lot of coordination. Put a large warp bubble up in a choke point and camp it solo... You might catch a fleet.
You need your friends around you, damage dealers, tacklers, EWAR and support.
Why should I be able to bypass all that by pulling the plug and making cluck cluck noises. If I get caught, you get my kill mail.
I never fly a ship I cant replace, so I accept the consequences of my actions.
There is some kind of virtual honour in this game, and I may have not been around for that long, but I know that a reputation is worth more than skill points or isk.
btw..my rep sux, but I am working on it I have always honoured ransomes ( even the 500mil CNR and the freighters ) and I honour 1v1, although most I have entered I knew I would lose...but meh.
Logging off because you are scared will never win you any friends. Legal mechanic or not
I have gate camped, pirated, bubble camped, hunted pirates, smashed camps and..good lord..protected miners. Flame away at me for gate camping, but why dont you try solo camping a gate you cannot jump through because of your sec.

They did at one point in time try to punish people who logged.

Well if thats not your definition of cheating, then I'm ashamed to know what is.
I'm going to end the arguement right there then.

... then ccp implemented the logout and aggro timers to counter leaving a fight anscathed.
Cheating would be against the set rules. Logging out is well within the rules. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

Cheating comes in following forms:
Exploits Account sharing 3rd party software Disconnecting Rigging
Now, you might think 'ah, see, it has disconnect', it's a cheat. Alas, disconnect usually refer to 1vs1. In a game with multiple players, it is accepted, and not even a cheat. You just derive the other person a win statistic, and you all clame you're not camping for the killboard, but for the good of the game.
Next up, exploit. Alas, an exploit is defined as using an unexpected effect of a gameplay to your advantage. Logging off behaves exactly as expected by desing, so no exploit.
So far, no cheats.
Next up however, we have stacking. Stacking is the strategy of stacking the favors, usually by pitching a team of experienced skilled players vs a bunch of (usually smaller in numbers) newer or less skilled players. This sounds familiar, and is widely regarded as cheating. Stacking the deck in your favor is not done. Gatecamping with 10+ tech II ships (BC, BS and HAC) is thus not done.
So please stop mentioning how logoff is a cheat, and cosider your own actions...thet also leave room for the moral debate.
And Lord, stop trying to redefine a entire language to fit your purpose. It is not a cheat, it is an expected result of a gameplay action. I push a button, and it does exactly wat is was designed to do... A cheat according to the dictionaty: 'To violate rules deliberately, as in a game' -read it aloud Lord
/me signs the rolly eyes complaint...God, I so do hate those rolly eyed yellow little buggers... :)

I would like to see bubbles having a jam strength or transport ships that are supposed to be blockade runners can get through.. So your transport ship that says its designed to get through blockades, and has a preset +2 warp strength. Thats fitted to the hilt with warp stabs. Can get through.
I don't have a problem with authority... ...as long as it doesn't get in my way. |

well blockade runners being able to pass for a bubble would not be bad. So you would need to heavyly web them and traditinnaly put lot of scrambling on them.
Well , balanced i would say. If brute force doesn't solve your problem.. then you are not using enough!! |
