I... just stopped playing. From 40 onwards it was more and more of a pain, and then at 60 the big hammer of 'wtf raids?!' hit me. Luckily around then i found eve and... here i am.

I quit about 2 years ago when I realized the high end PVP/PVE content was just grinding and doing the same crap I'd done and hated all the way up. I also realized that my lvl 60 wasn't wanted in any raids and couldn't do anything in the mind-bogglingly underdeveloped pre-BG PVP system. So I decided I didn't have the heart to grind out other classes to 60, started an EVE trial out of boredom, and never went back.

Never played, I got tired of that format back in the days of Everquest. I'll give Warhammer Online a try when that comes out but I think I'll be in EVE for a long time to come. ---

I play any game based on it being new.
If eve reset it server every 5 years with a different map it would last eons.
WoW i played got to level 60, doing that i saw different parts of the game and funny little things, after that it got quite boring seeing the same old same old. Even the pvp battlegrounds never changed.
Eve does change though and its pvp is not static or based in one area.
i played d&d online and managed to do everything bar one location in a month, quit that not long after. Played eq2 because again it was different scenery, quests etc but wow came out a month after and allowed me to play an ORC...
I will probably never stop playing eve but take breaks at times, it is the beuty of eve because of the skill training system.
Friend of mine has a beta account for vanguard and it plays almost like eq2 but its looks very nice, has more races and a few extra classes. Its main thing for me is its new so i might play it casually.
My major problem is i am an aussie and cannot do much during the week solo in eve. Ill rephrase that, something new that can be done solo.
I play these games and always think they are not quite eve.

Why Quit?
I play WOW while I am mining or traveling. Just play EVE and WOW in Wiindowed mode.
It will give you something to do while your waiting on the scan probes to analyze....

after spending all my free time waiting on instance resets, stupid wipes, hours upon hours of getting no drops, and then finding out im gonna have to level my toons again when xpack comes out, i uninstalled and now use the CD's as coasters
and to be perfectly honest, eve players are quite a bit more mature

I like the D&D engine of the sword and sheild games whether pen and paper or games like Never Winter Nights.
WoW is based on non-sensical bullcrap
I hate its game engine.

I played WoW for about 8 months with a variety of characters and loved it. After about 8 months though, I had explored about everything, my main hit lvl 60 (and got hacked - customer support non existant) and I was suddenly hit by a huge feeling that I had finished the game and really didn't want to play it anymore. No way was I going to fall for the "innumerable massive raids to acquire exotic kit" ploy Blizzard used to fool people into carrying on with their subscriptions after they had finished the game.
I don't understand why people expect to be able to play MMORPGs forever. As with all games you hit a point at which you have seen and done everything. You either start again or stop completely. I do understand why companies keep adding content to keep high level players happy. Even if it spoils the game for lower level players.
Having said all that EvE seems to be a "slow Burner" which I can see may keep me happy on and off for a year or two. Proud to be a CareBear |

Quite true, on your first account/character, it's fun up until about 20, then you need to quest/grind to 50, and you can't take part in Battle Grounds (PVP arena's) because you're too low level, so you need to wait till 54-55.
It's good for a wirl though. ---

uhm...
EvE average age: 28ish? WoW average age: 16ish?
After realizing that, and also after a month of uhm... pve? and realizing that to be better than others in pvp i stopped playing it.
I started guild wars instead, which is a lot of fun in pvp as you don't need to grind for it, and i resumed playing eve :)

This game, on the other hand, is a real problem to leave.
Its the Carrot-on-a-Stick behavior. You just keep dangling shiney things in front of these nerds and they will continue to chase it.

How did I quit? It was easy, I saw that the game they realized was nothing like they originally promised...
MMO for the casual gamer to be able to compete, no need to grind for hours... nope. Well ok, you dont grind much to hit 60, but after that, grinding is all you can do. One of their lead devs is also EQ's #1 all-time grind *****.
Rich story and background in line with Warcraft series... well the orcs and humans are fighting, they got that right atleast.
Unique conquest pvp system where alliance and horde can take areas much like in the Warcraft games, no. Battlegrounds are not even close.
That right there is three rather large strikes.

I played Wow on and off for about a year. Leveled a mage to 60. Then I'd thought I'd join a raiding guild to get my epic set. Found out that my mage wasn't geared well enough for the elitists, more grinding required. I then tried pvp. Got tired of being two-shoted (see non-epic gear above). Then I found Eve while browsing through Google Videos and was amazed at the graphics. Downloaded the trial and was very pleased that the game does not consist on clicking buttons and killing the same stuff 6 hours a day.

I was a WoW addict.
I played for a month during uni holidays once, I had to renew, but my mum wouldn't let me (I had to use her credit card to pay for game time). I was like a ****** adict with my withdrawal symptoms. Well, maybe not that bad, byt I was pretty ****ed off.
Quitting was a really good thing in the end.
Actually I read the goonswarm recruitment thing talking about the benefits of eve over other MMORPGS. In WoW I was in a guild with my friends who were also on holidays, and I basically had to play for 8 hours a day, 7 days a week to keep up with their leveling.
This is actually why I allowed myself to start playing eve, because if I don't play for a week, I am not really any worse off.

one thing i liked about wow was that i was able to catch up to others.
with eve, no matter what i do, i will never catch up to some one with more skill points.
unfortunately in pvp it is impossible to make up the skill point gap. at least in wow, theoretically, i could get the same gear as my opponent and we would be on level ground.
single biggest down side of eve.
