Hello CCP and others,
After speaking with even more friends, and doing tests with numion with friends here in Singapore, we are getting an average download speed of 34-40Kbps (yes, worse that a 56K modem!) to England and most of Europe around England. England seems to be the worst. From the reports also, it appears around 8 fiber optic cables were damaged in the quake of Taiwan. That makes sense because that is right around when all this started. Repairs will not be complete until late January, and in IT terms, that could mean late FEBUARY! So, it looks like most of southeast Asia are out of EVE till then. Take care you lucky bastards that live close to the servers.

good old copper wire connections.... lol
but seriously, I really envy some of the fiber optic infastructure some nations in the east (eg, south korea) have, literially there decades ahead. If England had a quake, it would be serveral months before netconnection went back to normal.
thankfully, as the servers are located here, we wouldn't be alone Sig removed lacks EVE content, email [email protected] if you have any questions - Xorus |

Did you read the post?
Connections from Asia to England are the worst.
You're in England. Of course your connection to EVE is going to be fine.

Asia is lagging... The have hit EVE-Files pretty hard today spamming the **** out of my servers with 1000's of connections from the same IP's. Surely they can't blame my Veldspar mining for the quake... or?

asia is pretty shot atm that might teach em to add more nodes ( allow for natural disaster etc) that said eve itself is still pretty dicey lots of issues that only kieron is awake atm tomorrows dt is looking like a small gain. But why is it becoming so hard for CCP to keep upgrading eve. Have they hit a technoloigical wall as well in terms of ongoing upgrades is it hardware or software orientated

Maybe it is just me but a 56k modem is 56kbit and not byte. Which would translate in a theoretical maximum speed of 7Kilobytes per second. I expect the download speeds you experienced with your friends were a little higher then that. Otherwise oh god the poor bastards.

Yeah, from Singapore here, and I've been having intense lag ever since that bloody quake. All I could do was to sit in station and talk to friends except for the rare occasion where I'd say, let's go to Syndicate and burn people, then I can have a good excuse for doing logoffski! \o/
But I kid. Killed a Dominix /w lag, though. ---------------

A Wiki about the entire quake and it's effects
Its sad to note that according to sources here in the Philippines, everyone else (aka Asia) will suffer internet connectivity problems for 6 months at LEAST.
It would also explain why Visa/Mastercard have some issues regarding online payment(like EVE), since banks also use the internet for their secure money transfers.
According to that wiki, it says 3 weeks. Pfft, 3 weeks before we get less than 50% packet loss, sure.
Surprising there's no entry from Aus/NZ folk, considering that 60% of their internet access runs through us...

Thats not bad at all, and I'm not sure what 56k modem you have used but I get about a max of 25kbps download speed on a 512Kb broadband .
With my old 56k v.92 modem I used to get 6kbps at the most!

connections speeds thro australia are still fairly heavy tbh
0.0 seems fine so i am guessing a lot of it has to do with empire type lag - and the fact CCP are rushing an upgrade means that they have found ongoing issues with them not being able to provide a playable game due to lag.
Of course i dont think they are in any rush until or if it affects their revenues. On the othe rhand some things seem ok as well.

Sidenote, anyone in china was unaffected by the damage, which is concentrated on the taiwan-rest of south-east-asia pipelines...
I'd think they're still around... or even moreso with all the bandwidth available to them

tbh u would think mission runners and those ppl affected by this lag would be more bousterous in their mentioning it on the forums. Or would be quitting in numbers this still doesnt appear to be happening which has me stumped all i can assume is players are comfortable with 20 second lag.

I believe he was meaning Kilobits per second (Kbps) not Kilobytes per second.(KBps) :p

Maybe it's not that bad for everyone? Only some people have the problem? Or more of them play on the china server?

Mainland China is not affected as far as Serenity is concerned. A big portion of their link to the 'outside' world got hit though.
It is 'only' those oversea connections from all over, you know, Australia, Philipines, Taiwan, ...
Rerouting through other backbones and satellite connections is partially possible but the load on those areas of the net has gone through the roof. --*=*=*--
