How do I put this, the majority of Eve players are Europeans from what I gather, so it wouldent be just a few people splitting it nicely onto Americas and Europe. If you wanted to do that it would be Noethern Europe, Souther Europe, and throw the East and Americas on one server. The numbers may have changed alot since i last looked, but it wouldent work anyway. TQ is the only server, will be the only server. Serenity sounds very, very boring, so why go onto your regional server, even if charecters themselves are moved to the new server. What will be interesting is how long it will take TQ to be expected to sustain 100k peeps at once, we have around 30k now and the more peeps that are already on the more rapidly we can expect the playerpace to grow. While we are on the topic, when CCP claim over 250k playerbase or something, do they inculde dead trial accounts and the like?...
Note to all, What I say may be infact of a more humorous tone than comes accross. |

I would love a EvE personal server with say 2 client connections and a single solar system to use as a sort of sandpit for ship fittings and POS loadouts.

If I remember correctly, Hellmar stated at the FanFest a number surpassing 1 million, but that included the dead accounts. Don't know where you got the 250k from...

Tbh, each country should have its own server located out of the most populated city of said country.

no, eve is better than ALL other MMORPGs (cough WoW cough) because of no sharding and ALL MMORPGS get lag, it's just what happens. deal with it.

devide eve and probley 75% of the players will leave, its pretty much the main point why many of us play. you just need to move out from hte heavy areas if your really annoyed with the lag and only go there for supplys Hypnotic Pelvic Thrusting Level 5 |

Part of the draw of EVE for me is having one world, I can go to anyone who understands EVE and say that I am Scetrov from EVE and people know how to contact me in-game, someone says "I am in Evoloution" and I know the type of corporation they are a member of.
It gives a personal identity that you don't get in sharded game, with 4 shards you could say, "I am in Evoloution" and you might mean the Corp. in BoB on TQ, the Industrialist Corp. on Serenity or the PvP Pirate Wing of the Lonetrek Maffia on the Americas Server. --

Why eve is crowded is due to the fact that we have WTZ instead of mwd/AB to gates which would require more time spent traveling and would open up alot more tactics in the game such as holding a gate or trying to get out of a system. And you will not see the big alliances take over regions every other day. Actually the only thing slowing it down is POS wars.

We absolutely need a shard ... ... so we can put those who keep asking for shards there. :-)
That 100 or so players can than have their own little Eve cluster and the rest of us is spared yet another message about this. ;-)
TQ is *not* crowded. It's not even close to being crowded.
Anybody asking for a shard does not understand Eve.

Originally by: Meleena Ruin I am tired of performance issues and lag problems. The community is getting so big now, we might as well face the fact that it would be good to split us up. 25K+ players all the time is really making space crowded and small.

Nope. I've been playing with a group of people from all around the world for many years. Played together in Jumpgate to SWG to Eve. I wouldn't want to loose them as they are some of the greatest friends around. -------------------------------------- Heavy Lag Spike II belonging to EvE Cluster Node #0815 hits your Connection, wrecking your latency to 998ms |

The real solution is to have a reasion to get out of the crowded systems (not forced out).
Yes its laggy even in systems that only you are in due to the server also hosting a popular system (most of the servers host multiple systems). But if there was a reasion to have the people disperse and spread out from the saturated systems it would be a lot less laggy. One shard if fine with as few people a play EVE, being a niche game does have it's benifits.
To the OP, if your constantly in a laggy system try moving to a diffrent region. There are actualy lower populated regions that offer just as much as the densly populated ones.

I'm an american living in europe. I'd prefer you not make decissions for me. Also I rather like the international flavor EVE has and it would be quite a bit less without it.
What really shoots this questionable idea in the arse is that it is a false logic to assume that splitting the community up would solve lag problems.

It was said before, having just one server is one of the core attributes of the EVE universe. It is one of the main reasons I spent time in this virtual world. If anything, I would like to get it bigger, definitly not smaller.

My first reaction was to say "**** no". But as I've gotten to thinking about it, I would tenetively be interested if the suggestion was made to create a roleplaying server.
But a bunch of new servers just because someone is whining about the lag in the core systems? Here's a hint, get the hell out of Jita.
