I think I remember reading somewhere in the forms that if you increase your salvaging level that you actually increase the amount of salvage you get from a wreck.
Could someone please verify this?

Dunno for sure but I don't think this is true. You do increase the chance to salvage succesfully and think you need level 3 atleast to salvage T2 parts.

So the response is:
Higher level Salvaging Skill increases chance of getting 'better' salvage?
or
You can't slavage certain ships without higher Salvaging Skill?
in either case people have reported that the number of peieces is random (based on faction of wreck and size of wreck) and higher skill doesn not appear to give more salvage.
in other words: Small wrecks give least salvage than Medium wrecks Medium Wrecks give less than Large Wrecks Large give less than Capital (assumption, since I never seen a capital ship myself)
Navy Ships, Mission Drones, EoM, Mission Mercenaries (Thukker, etc.) Give NO Salvage Mission Pirates (Serpentis, Angel, Guiristas, Sansha) all give Salvage Mission Pirates (Elite Serpentis, Angel, Guiristas, Sansha) seem to give you 'better' quality salvage than the normal Mission Pirates as for Belt Rats I believe the Standard and Elites drop like Mission ones however I have heard of someone claiming Belt Drones (not Mission ones) drop Salvage

This has been my experience, but I haven't been able to verify the former.

The drones on the new areas drop salvage. The old ones don't.

Armarr navy ships in the level 3 mission "The Score" (I think that was the name of it) give salvage.. I got 45 parts from them the other day..

It remains to be seen whether any skill increase will also increase the yeild of salvaged items. As mentioned above higher levels of Salvage skill increase the chances of successfully salvaging at all. Using multiple Salvage I scanners helps, but I doubt that multiple scanners give a cumulative bonus.
Also mentioned previously was that Salvage skill level *directly* affects what ships you may or may not salvage. At Salvage level 3, I did successfully salvage a True Sansha medium wreck, but it was not possible for me to salvage an Elite Frigate (T2). There are mixed reports of L3 not being sufficient to salvage Domination wrecks, but I don't know what ship type the wreck was. I must conclude that salvaging T2 ship wrecks and at least some Dominations requires salvage skill of level 4 or greater.
These observations are made on salvaging attmpts performed *without* the Salvage Tackle I rig. I am privately hoping that use of such specialized equipment might increase salvage yeild, but I seriously doubt that it will alter what ships you are permitted to salvage based on your Salvage skill.

I do rat killing in .5 and .6. Once in .4 but got killed and decide it is not worth - yet - because my attack/defense skills are not high enough, so... anyway, I got better salvage from .4 than .5 or .6, in quantity and quality.
I did read somewhere that larger ships get larger, more amount of salvage, something that I have not tested yet.
From Knowledgebase: SKILLS FOR SALVAGING
* Salvaging Proficiency at salvaging ship wrecks. Required skill for the use of salvager modules. 5% increase in chance of salvage retrieval per level.
I have only Salvage 3 and seems pretty good although VERY SLOW, VEEEERY SLOOOOOOWWWWW [<--hint 4 EVE programers].
The Salvage level seems, only increases the chance of success, not the amount of items.

Yep, its just that i'm away from eve for a few days and i cannot find anything in the items database about slavaging equipment. My main character will soon (week or so) have slavaging skills.

The new equipment hasn't shown up in the database yet. The Salvager I module is in the Electronics / Data & Composition Scanners category. Activating the module on an empty wreck (one that's had the loot removed) will, if successful, destroy the wreck and add any salvageable material in that wreck to your cargo hold.
The Salvager Tackle rig (apparently) increases your chances of a successful operation of the Salvager module. Opinions are varied concerning the actual effects of the Salvaging skill and the Tackle rig.
I can verify that larger wrecks produce more salvage pieces, but I have not seen any result of training my Salvage skill higher beyond an overall faster rate of salvaging. But I wasn't paying very close attention to the yield until recently.

So to sum up.
High salvage skill gives me: 1) gets you access to slavage bigger wrecks. 2) more effective salvaging (i.e. I can use few salvagers for a successful salvage)
It does not let me pull more salvage out of the same size wreck and does not change the chance that a wreck has salvage to begin with.

How long does it take to salvage on wreck on average with an salvager I and Salvaging at lvl 5? I am hoping it is not too long so that I can salvage effectively with a t1 hauler with a tractor beam and salvager. Damn T2 haulers with their 1 high slot. ----------------------------------------------- "It's great playing Caldari Online, isn't it?" by Xori Ruscuv

1) no, only tech 2 wrecks. You can salvage at least a battleship with salvaging level 1. I haven't had the opportunity to salvage anything larger than a BS so I can't confirm this. 2) not from what I've found. Sometimes you get 2 parts from a BS, some times you get 15.
The 2 main effects of increasing salvaging skill are: 1) To allow you to salvage T2 wrecks (rare belt rats), and 2) To increase the chance that you will salvage successfully in 1 cycle, which just saves time. From what I've read, the chances are 25% at level 1 to 45% at level 5.

I have definately noticed an increase in the amount of items salvaged since training from Salvaging lvl 2 to lvl 3. Could have just been lucky, but I would say it has increased by at least 1/3.

This is what I know. U need salvage lvl 3 to salvage shadow serpentis wreck and u need lvl 4 to salvage t2 PvP wrecks.
this I think I got correctly. Salvaging lvl only increses chance for salvaging to be seccesfull (salvager gives u 15% chance + 5%per skill lvl)
and to save time I always use 2 salvagers on same wreck. hope this helps some1 a bit
