What I use at this time: (like I posted elsewhere - I still need to run my first level 2 mission)
Level 1: Rifter - does well. Level 2: currently outfitting a Bellicose for this. level 3: Battlecruiser a viable option? Level 4: Typhoon?
Any ideas are welcome, that way I know what to save my ISK for.

1) Thrasher (pops the frigs real fast) 2) Rupture 3) Cyclone is fine as long as you have skilled up for it 4) Typhoon is good as I have used it for most lvl 4's. Maelstrom is better but cost 2.5 as much.

1) Noob ship 2) Frig 3) Cruiser 4) BS
That's the easiest way of looking at it.
Now for the more complex version:
1) Noob Ship, til you've got decent skills for a rifter, then once u can pwn all missions it time for the next step.
2) Rifter... Starts getting complicated now - do you start training up for AF's, BC's, cruisers or even destroyers?? Choice is ultimately yours, but i'd go for cruiser. again, once your skills are high enough to pwn all it's time for the next step.
3) Cruiser.. Again, start pumping the skills in for a BS and whenever you think you're ready, then bring out the BS and see how you get on. Again, if you can pwn the missions then it's time for the next step.
4) Battleship.. To be able to solo lvl 4's with Minny you need a hell of a lot of SP's so you may find it's a case of jumping back to lvl 3's until all the skills are trained up high. "How will I know?" you ask.. if you get your b*tt handed back to you.. that's how
That is the very linear way of looking at what ships for each mission lvl, but again, it's all down to individual play style and how YOU want to play the game.
When bored myself, I like to use an AF for lvl 1-3 and a HAC for lvl 4's, but that's just me
And remember, tactics are your friend.. Use them wisely or it'll be a case of WTFBBQPWNOMGILOSTMYSHIP !!!!

Instead of a HAC one can use a Drake for lvl 4's. With it's bonus for resists, think of the Drake as a poor mans HAC.

Edited by: Jaele Tha on 06/01/2007 22:35:35 Ive been thinking about training Caldari ships sometime on my minmatar. Both use a lot of launcher slots, yet for missions I run into tons more pilots of Caldari ships (both on the forums and ingame) instead of Minmatar.
Any particular reason why the usage of the various Minmatar ships is quite seldomly encountered?
EDIT: perhaps turret tracking speed for min weapons is one such reason? The allround resists seem ok.

If you can do anything but the easiest lv1's in a noob ship then you should probly be flying a battlecruiser in lv3s by now anyway. Don't do anything in a noob ship ever. It's completely worthless. Just use the money you got in the tutorial to get a cheap real frigate. If you can do lv2's in a t1 frigate you should be doing lv4's in a battleship. What you're saying is for vets with uber skills that are looking for a challenge rather than money. If he does it your way it'll take him months to move beyond lv1 missions. A 2 week old character in a vexor can do most lv2's in his sleep pretty much. For someone actualy trying to move up to better missions for the first time rather than a bored guy with 20m sp it goes:
1: frigate 2: cruiser 3: battlecruiser 4: battleship

You haven't been running missions much receintly have you? There are VERY few lvl 3 missions that a cruiser can finish. A rifter in Massive attack lvl 2, you must be very good. I would suggest the following:
Low SP: Lvl 1) Cruiser 2) Battlecruiser 3) Battleship 4) Don't try with low SP
While this is overkill for many missions, you will be glad you have the tank when you run into the hard ones.
High SP Lvl 1) Rifter 2) Rupture 3) Hurricane/Cyclone/Munin 4) Typhoon/Maelstorm/Sleipner
Very High SP - you don't need my help.
Missions are all about tank, with lower SP you need a larger ship because of it's better tanking abilities. Once you get better, and know the missions better you can reduce your tank and work on speed.

Maelstrom is by far the best minmatar BS for lvl 4 mission and I have tried them all. The ability to deal massive damage at up to 100km while still fitting a good tank is simply incredible. I suspect that with good skills a Maelstrom might even be a better mission runner than a Raven.

lvl 1 and 2 missions can be done in Rifter easily. Use Artillery and fight at max range.
lvl 3 can be done in Hurricane. Again use artillery. Range is your best friend for missions. The further away you can fight, the less you have to tank.
lvl 4 I would say Maelstorm should be a safer choice than tempest. Typhoon can do it as well but require very high skill to be effective. Tempest is a good ship but it's tank is a bit weak without faction mods and good skill.
Once you've gotten skills trained, get a Sleipnir. It is the king of all ships when it comes to doing missions. Nothing can break it's tank, great cap to let you run everything full time. It can deal with small and large ships with ease. Nothing can beat it. I can fly all the HACs and Command ships. Sleipnir by far is my first choice. It is the ship I use when I have doubt about a missions.
