So my CEO and i have been talking about aquiring Battleship Blueprint copies through BIG's sceme, where you pay i.e. 1/10th of an original battleship blueprint and get a copy of it each week.
I've asked around if its a scam or not, and got very mixed feedback - some saying they were, other saying they're honest people etc.
So i'm asking you, the *cough* establishment of EVE; What do you think about BIG?

big are a very honest corp and top guys, I put my full trust in them and they would never think of scamming anyone.

BIG is fountain alliance. Of course their own corp members and alliance members say they are 'honest'.

i looked into this particular investment also, everyone i spoke to who had done this in the past spoke highly of them. Sadly political ties made me wary and decide to forget about it.

I just know Tornsoul will be in here shortly. But I can give some 'biased' info till then.
Tornsoul is running the BIG deal. He has been for over 2 months. Aside from that he is running the BIG lottery since day 1 of retail.
It is a fact that there are numrous 'customers' and there have uptill now been NO complaints or doubt as to the honesty of Tornsoul in these affairs.

It is, however, true that BIG is a part of the Fountain alliance. That means entering into a deal as this with BIG has some political aspects. I dont know if deals with for instance CA members are adviceable, but I do know that if such deals were made they would be honored 100%. That is OUR policy.

I have been down for the megathron deal and its gone very well...BP's are delivered relatively on time and to the specification outlined by BIG.
I have known tornsoul - CEO of BIG - for most of my EVE carreer, and know him to be hardworking and trustworthy.
I highly recomend this scheme as a way to get into the battleship production market.

BIG have a good reputation so that angle is about as safe as you will get.
On the other hand.... tier 1 1-run BPCs are 5mil and tier 2 10mil.
Thats 12 for the 120 million it will cost you to get 1 per week over 12 weeks for the same outlay upfront (with no discount).
(Or buy 3 1-runs @10m per and then buy 90 mil of minerals, mine the lowend - sell all 3 @95 mil per and come out in the same week up by a fair bit)
I just dont see any future viability in the purchasing of multi-run BPCs via share-deals.
Only a personal opinion and no slant or shadow on those very reputable corps like BIG who do such deals. Just that if you have 100-120million isk there a lot more you can do with it "creatively" than purchasing a tiny fragment of somebody elses BP.

I've known a few of the guys from BIG for a while now, and I have dealt with them from time to time.
Personally I don't think you will find a more honest corp in eve.
As for the deal - well we looked into it but decided against it, it didn't fit with our goals in-game, for others it might.

I am also one of the owner's of the fractional share purchase plan and can say I have had nothing but a great deal of satisfaction from dealing with BIG.
As Morkt said it may not be for everyone but it dovetailed nicely with my goals and it is a great idea for a certain segment of the population.
Think of it as a savings account to buy an original battleship bp thst pays 1 run copys as interest.
