I like US comedy, I love british comedy. The Simpsons is absolutley great and its amazing that it has lasted so long, Friends was good as it was funny but they dragged it out for way too long and spoilt it in my opinion.
However in england we have some of the best comedy, monty python, blackadder etc, but we also have shows like the Mighty Boosh which was just hilarious, Spaced and peepshow. Cant beet proper British comedy.

Too many favourites to mention. Someone mentioned Open All Hours though and forgot to mention Porridge - one of the all time greats. Phoenix Nights is a good one too, although I'm not sure how well it'd translate for a US audience.
Rab C Nesbitt was great, as was Naked Video where he first appeared. And for more excellent Scots sketches try Absolutely. Callum Gilhooley and the Soneybridge Council still make me giggle just to think about them Calum Gilhooley

Britain does dark humour very well, whilst America tends to export will & grace/everybody loves raymond/friends style light entertainment shows - they're not supposed to be hilarious, just fill a gap in the schedules.
humour is a funny old thing, if you'll pardon the pun, and all very subjective. what was funny 100 years ago would just be vaguely confusing these days. US sitcoms play it safe aiming to appeal to as many people as possible without offending anybody enough to get sued.
How can think that the sketch show was LESS funny... granted that bloody pool bit got old fast, but i loved some bits.. like the sherlock Holmes one.. oh so good lol

its almost never about the accent but just the stupidity and that we're daft
e.g. a man goes back into the fish and chip shop and asks you sure this fish is cooked right? the cook says yea, why do you ask? the man said well because the fish has eaten the ****in chips.
RIP Bernard Manning (best comedian ever) now theres a guy that you should all watch as well as roy chubby brown, he was apparently racist but absolutely hilarious and he isnt offensive at all as he takes the **** outta everyone including himslef from time to time

American sitcoms nowadays seem to revolve around a good looking wife and her obese/bumbling/idiotic/******** husband, for instance 'King of Queens', 'Everybody Love Raymond'... Try 'Third Rock From The Sun' or 'Wonder Showzen' or
House' for some decent American comedy, other then that, it all sucks.

Hmm - good to know racism is ok so long as they're racist about everybody  I saw the film following Chubby Brown and thought the filmmaker was spot on - a lot of his stuff is very funny and he's a talented comedy actor but it was clear that while people were laughing at his self deprecating jokes they were just cheering at his racist stuff. It kind of suggested that the latter wasn't appealing to his audience's sense of humour but to their prejudice, which doesn't make for good comedy in my book.

Roy Chubby Brown's particular form of derisive satire can get a little much sometimes. Whilst I don't think he's actually prejudiced, he certainly does cross the line of what can be considered good taste, and long since passed anything resembling political correctness. I also don't really find him particularly funny.

Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer are also very fuuny. I've been watching the 'Bang Bang it's Reeves and Mortimer' and I can't stop laughing. It's very surreal, random humour, but its brilliant I think.
I also thought that the first series of little britain was actually quite funny, but from then on it went down hill, with all the same jokes just being repeated in every show.

Self deprecating humour, can't get enough of it. The American comedy that makes it's way over this side of the pond tends to be severely lacking in this, and Hicks was a breath of fresh air.

Took me a while to find it, but the one thing I can appreciate about Bernard Manning as a comedian was that he gave John Thompson the chance to create this character Bernard Righton

you should try the following if you love british humour:
RED DWARF - a must for space fans
MEN BEHAVING BADLY - proper good blokes comedy
BOTTOM - very adult humour
DIRTY SANCHEZ - UK's answer to jackass. and in my opinion make jackass guys look soft!
