Good stuff
The game is not yet ready to get rid of local, other stuff must be added first. but I think it needs to be done. If I jump into system in a fast ship, immediately warp to a belt despite UI lag, and magically knew which belt to warp to, I cannot get there before a battleship warps out. All he has to do is keep an eye on local.
despite this, last night, 5 out of 6 people logged immediately upon my entry. I found the belt one logged from, and sat there, they logged in, then logged out before they warped back to the belt, so never came back, and now never will.
One way or another, something needs to be fixed.

Thats because Chuck Norris always spawns on top of you (he can blow up your ship and pod before the system even realizes he jumped in (that would be of course if he even needed to jump in and if the system could even comprehend the existence of chuck norris))

If local was added to real life TomB would be convicted of rape. No longer would his tactic of simply proclaiming it was "suprise sex" would work.
Eve would cease to exist without TomB's leet Dev ability.
Local is, therefore, bad.

I'm not gonna read this entire topic, I'm just gonna state my opinion (yet again) on this topic.
This isn't medieval times, the technology present is miles and miles ahead of even our times, not to speak of the trojans or ww2.
If you want to compare it to something take this:
Everyone in a system is linked to the stargates in a network, when someone jumps trough you get added to a list (local) by the stargate you jumped into. Remember the stargate de-moleculesizes you in order to send you trough, so there's nothing you can hide about your identity, it can seek out your DNA if it wanted to.
The stargate network is not owned by players, and it's not owned by you.
Deal with it, local stays how it is

Why didn't you read the whole thread there was much funny to be had I might as well have just made a post that said local is ghey

In the spirit of the OP:
Sir Francis Drake would never had as many ship kills as all the Spanish would have logged when he entered.
Ollie North would been exposed waaay earlier as he entered into Iran local.
Noriega* would have logged when US Marines landed in Panama.
The Golden Horde would jump local to 10,000 and everyone in the system would run and hide afraid to come out and fight.
James Bond would never be able to sneak into Spectre's secret bases.
quite funny really.
*off topic here, but unbelievably he is "scheduled" for release this year...I feel really old all of a sudden. I need a hug. |

Local has no limitations, scanners do. The power of local is lame, try and justify it all you want but it is a lame means to get instant intel on every pilot on a system. by far the worst feature of EVE IMHO
