Similar thing. Every time you destroy an item (god kills a kitten) there is a 'hole' left in the database.
Soon all these holes add up.
Please don't take m$ retarded technologies as 'state of the art'. Serious filesystems & databases use Garbage Collectors and never ever need to 'defragment'.
As for the original topic : Pretty please add some hotfix for the mail bug, and I'm sure we'll be more than happy to come and help with stress-testing.
O the contrary, SQL Server can fragment; not just the database either, as the Transaction Log File and Database file can auto-grow at different rates, causing fragmentation on disk.
CCP do use MS SQL IIRC.

Sisi is giving me an "incompatible build" error and asks me to patch. Is this safe to patch onto my main (TQ) eve client, or should I just wait until the right version is up?

I've got the same problem! I thought it was going to be running the same version.

My point precisely: M$ SQL is not 'state of the art' technology, nor is NTFS, thanks for pointing that out.

Originally by: kieron While the extended downtime is underway, we are asking for the community's assistance. As part of the ongoing effort to improve EVE's performance, we will be holding a stress test on Singularity and would like for as many members of the EVE community as possible to log into the test server. Once logged in, just play EVE as normal.
The test server will be running on the same version as Tranquility, so it will not be necessary to install a second client. We hope the server load during the stress test will help us troubleshoot some of the recent node issues.
The same version then why we have to DL an patch? And when trying to DL you get a error site
So you want us to test or what? make it work!

Edited by: Lucius Rex on 16/01/2007 11:57:10 I was eventually redirected to 'download full client' which is when i gave up. (the full vesion is older then my active one)
i have version 28296, patch o2/test/evepatch28296-28750_test.exe is auto requested and missing. 'alternate' dl site returns forbidden.
I think they didn't change sisi to normal build (yet) and have blocked access to test patches to avoid damage.
EDIT- erased some nonsense

Well seems test is running a different version then your live, no biggie can copy eve and patch to help you all stress test it. One exception tho your mirror of live is close to two months old so those of use that recieved this for an xmas gift this year get to sit on the sidelines and wait for the production server to come back up. wtg

Edited by: Shin Kikko on 16/01/2007 12:08:39 there is another thread on this as well.
Found this link on it
http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/test/evepatch28296-28892_test.exe
seems to have patched and trying to login now....having been sitting on "Aquiring Bulk Data" for a few minutes now though.
Says there is 241 peeps logged in
EDIT: Link above definately works, am logged into Sisi and sitting in a station

Edited by: Gangus on 16/01/2007 12:09:13 Well ccp, it seems you have come up with an excellent strees test for us... However, I don't think you and I have the same definition of Stress Test. I can't get a patch for Sisi, which is making me DAMN STRESSED!!!!! are you intending to test how many people click on the dead links for the patch, and how many times they click, hoping you guys have realised and fixed the weblink?
Anyway, if the formula above holds true, YES!!! THIS TEST OF MY PATIENCE IS STRESSING ME OUT!!!!
Thanks for making me plan to join the stress test, putting off other plans, then having to sit back and become frustrated.
EDIT: the URL provided above is for a different build to what the client is supposedly expecting... not too sure if i should use it or not...

It seems to me that the reset of Singularity to the same build as Tranquility was forgotten in the process of starting the maintenance.
Implementation plans, guys! Documentation is boring, but oh so very useful ;)

Was all set to put my 3 toons on and stress test with them. Instead I get stressed and am told to download a xx mb file to make compatible. Screw that. WTF happened between your sisi stress server test news and reality???

The above url is only one of two patches for the live server to test remember during the holidays they had another patch that was optional to fix some issues for some users. From live to Test http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/test/evepatch28505-28892_test.exe or http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/test/evepatch28296-28892_test.exe
depending on what your running.

Edited by: Gangus on 16/01/2007 12:29:27 Well, finally someone has come along with some help, and amazingly enough, confirmation that it works. seems my original "Stress Test" is cancelled, and another begins. :)
EDIT: it would have been nice to have had a ccp rep here to inform us of a way to avoid their screw-up, but that's the way the cookie crumbles i suppose...

Don't forget that installing a test patch will make your build incompatible with Tranquility. Copy EVE to another folder if you don't want to be reinstalling it in a few hours!

Not going to be much of a stress test if people have to make the usual copy of the eve folder. I think the masses of people you'd need to stress test anything won't be bothered if they have to fart around with a new copy, patch up process.
If I could just log in, as we were told we'd be able to, I probably would, but as it happens, I have other stuff I should be doing ================

EVE-Online was not found on your computer. You will have to install the game in order to apply this patch.

Edited by: Lonx on 16/01/2007 12:41:26 Fantastic work CCP...
I ended up copying the Eve folder, patching for test version & then find the old mirror problem as well. Its telling me my CC declined a charge in 2005, which was when I switched credit companies & didn't renew Eve subscription until recently. Love your work...
They wanted a stress test but only 342 users logged in when I was on there. I bet that's really pushing the CPU limit on the server...
/disappointed rant.

well
I made a copy of the folder, applied the patch but all I get is a "status unknown" and an error message :
Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong
so, what do I do next ?

Does anyone know how i can set my american clock to this time
What is the GMT difference where you are, or what state of USA are you in?
For what its worth, they are claiming the server should be up at 11am in New York or 8am Washington. Work it out from there I guess mate.
Tamiya, it took you an hour to copy the folder? took me about 2minutes... and those hard drives aren't too expensive (a pair of 250gb SATA).
