I've recommended EVE to people that I know for a certain fact are mature enough to handle it. I would definitely not recommend this game for anyone under 18, at the youngest. However, there are real-life lessons that can be learned here.
VS other MMO's, there's no comparison when it comes to complexity, and it requires careful forethought and planning that just isn't necessary with any other game. EVE is a game with consequences, and that's a real rarity in a gaming world overwhelmed with shooters with 1-minute respawn timers. EVE emphasizes situational awareness, character judgement, money management, and conservative thinking. I've been a hisec, non-pvp-focused player since 2006 (with large gaps due to military service), and while it might be argued by many here that I've missed out on the bulk of the "real EVE experience", I think I've learned a lot from the game, and had a lot of fun besides. |

Sigh, the death of one of my loves of Eve, and the return of my nemesis from my Insurance company days.
I always recommend Eve to people. The only problem i run into is that people are more tempted towards the instant gratification games where you can buy endgame gear and a lvl gorillion character from the cash shop, or games where you can 720 backflip no-scope headshot a guy off the eiffel tower and then land in the pilot seat of a jet and bomb a freaking shark.
Now, if CCP were to bring Legion and Valkyrie to the table as well ( you know, having all games playable across a single platform and all that jazz), there would be a much better draw for newer players as you would be satisfying the FPS/Flight itch as well as the sandbox itch.. but alas we digress into repeated bludgeoning of a deceased equine with that, especially if we were to want them to be integrated into Eve in order to compete with SC when its released in 2024 [bludgeoning intensifies].
Eve is a sandbox of epic proportions where there is room for the good, the bad, the in-between, and god forbid.. the bloody neutrals.
Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Getting a bit tired of all these agenda pushing blog sites. Can't be bothered to read it.
Either way: no, not at the moment. Until CCP decides on a course and acts accordingly I can't recommend EVE. As MMO's go this one is a long term investment of sorts and if you don't trust the powers that be to make decisions that stroke with what EVE stood, and perhaps still stands, for then to me that's bad.
Lots of good stuff has happened but also things where I just have to wonder what the hell they were thinking. T3D, the whole skill trading, some of the UI updates they're working on but also the overall dumbing down of EVE. To me the big one is skill trading because if that happens then that's a first step towards terribleness. Something I'm not interested in. |

...which people? Eve is a niche game and, generally when I recommend something to someone, I do so based on the belief that they will enjoy it, and not the fact that *I* enjoy it.
I like single-player roguelikes. My buddy refuses to play any game that isn't multiplayer. I don't recommend single player roguelikes to him.
So, yeah, there are people to whom I would recommend Eve, and others for whom I would most definitely NOT.

I recommend EVE to those I think will like EVE.
Unfortunately, the headcount for my circle of friends has remained constant for a few years now, so that has resulted in no recommendations.
If you're asking in a round-about way for opinions about the game, I think that what they've done with subcapitals so far has been pretty good, but unfortunately the game feels incomplete (and lacking end-game play) until they release their rework of capital ships.
And as far as the microtransactions fluff, to me it feels like whoever's making the decisions has no clue. Compared to SWTOR's "Cartel Market", the NEX store is a joke, both in the number of items available and in the way we can accumulate them in-game. |

CCP could have made a killing, and for a long time now, if only they would have decided to do it right. Instead they chose shittiness and half arsed solutions. I'm happy to spend money on EVE but only if what they're offering makes sense, shows insight and commitment. Terrible "fill all" textures that cost lol amount of money don't persuade me.
It's the same with those new Mordu skins. I'll never buy 28 plex (lol) and I don't care about the ship or its skin but it's yet another case of lack of decisiveness and communication. Someone made a remark about it a week ago about how CCP should clarify that such skins would only be available with high volume plex sales. THEN it would have created a pull but nope: they chose to just do "whatever" and stay silent so the people who are genuinely interested don't trust the market value of those skins because for all we know it we might get them for free for Christmas, who the **** knows. It's such a missed opportunity. |

I'd recommend it, but EVE has its complexity and it's subscription fee working against itself. Whenever I try to convince someone to play this game (because it's so unique and awesome) I inevitably end up explaining that it does cost 15 dollars a month (or an ungodly amount of grinding) and that it's a game that requires long term (time) investments. And as much as people like the sound of EVE and want to try it, those two things are enough to put most people off. Not to mention the complexity of joining a corp and all the other weirdly complex interactions we have in EVE. I'm always sort of reluctant to explain the average corp's recruiting process to someone because I simply KNOW they won't understand and think that's insane (which, honestly, it kinda is).
So yeah... I'd recommend it to people in a heart beat but actually convincing them to try it, that's hard.

I no longer recommend EVE.
It annoys people. They don't have the patience to skill up to do some of the stuff that I do. They find it slow and boring. I think EVE is on a downward slope, it is losing depth to be less complex, which bores the veterans and still won't attract the plebs.

No game like it. I always try to drag friends, family and workmates into EVE.
Not always successfully though as it takes patience and sometimes a serious degree of commitment to enjoy fully and most people I know are very casual gamers. I keep recommending it though, for all its ups and downs it's still the best game I ever played. You can have experiences here that you just won't get in any other game.

Not really something useful for a CCP community analyst person to hear, but man. If a person doesn't understand that things on the internet are not real life, the playerbase is a bit much.

Maybe I'll find my answers. If I can't then I probably won't return.

My invitation is extended only with regard to how long I have to stand there and make excuses, sound like an apologist (fanboi) and explain away things - leaving the invitee with a smart "hope with me for the future" ending. With EVE, alas, it's like inviting someone to an ailment you've become accustomed to - coming to admire your own limp.
There is no other game, LOTRO, SWTOR, GW2, FFXIV, that I play which I'd have to go through such geriatrics to cover myself so when this "friend" gets in-game I don't look like a blithering idiot for having suggested it in the first place. Since EVE is my first love in gaming history, this is recounting a tragedy...now I'm going to go get drunk and stare at my EVEMon counter as it ticks away Light Drone Operation V. THAT, my friend, is dedication.
Furthermore, I really don't want my friends thinking I'm insane...any more than they already do.
There just isn't anything that can be said!

I think the late game grind is the real killer. Potentially investing a years skilling in to a ship you may not even use *cough*naglfar*cough*

Early on you're waiting for skills any time you want to change direction, you have no idea about mechanics and you're being farmed and scammed by veteran players at every turn until you figure out what you're doing. All while paying for a sub because you don't have a stockpile of isk.
As a vet, I can do pretty much any activity without additional training, I know pretty much every trick that people while try to use against me so I don't get caught out and I've got so much isk laying around that I can do absolutely nothing to gain more isk and still remain subbed on multiple accounts for my skills to tick over for the foreseeable future.
