Edited by: Plutoinum on 17/01/2007 09:32:10 If I wanted to see the new high-end content in the expansion, I probably had to talk to my old guild and they needed to help me gather the equipment of 3 raid instances just to be up-to-date again and well-equipped for the new stuff, so probably a few hundred hours gametime. No, I rather stay here.
Summer 2005, when I quit, my equipment with 13 epics mostly from Molten Core was top notch, now new applicants for my old guild need at least AQ40+ armor gear and BWL weapons, from which I have none. The grind won't get me so fast again. WOW is like a job.

Great odins raven will people stop comparing WoW to EvE. They have totally differen't 'level' systems. They are based around totally different stories They are aimed at different styles of play They are aimed at different markets One is pvp orientated and one is pve orientated One is meant to be player controlled the other is meant to be npc controlled. They have different art directions
They are two totally different games give it a frakin' rest already. It's like watching people compare GTA to Halo or something relativly stupid. --------

34k is the concurrent player record on a sunday. Usually the game has about 25k players during a normal evening. I havent noticed any changes at all because of the new WoW stuff. Personally Im not sure why anyone would even go back to WoW since all they do is release more of the same stuff all the time. Some more races, some more areas, some more dungeons. So what? Its not lack of content that makes most people sick of WoW, its lack of fun.

wow is repetitive clicking and grinding, and has a treadmill complex that doesnt allow anybody to go anywhere really, leveling up to fight slightly stronger monsters? so what the better drops would mean the same thing to you as your drops you get now? on the other hand eve is different and i cant explain why it is addictive, its just much harder to explain because there is a lot more things to consider, eve is definately more deep though, you can feel how deep this game is by trying to define it. try it.

At least in EvE when you are on fleet ops your success or failure has some consequences. In WoW it is just a prelude to kvetching about who gets the best loot.
For all the jokes about folks in big alliances on EvE being basement dwellers, WoW truly encourages the abbrogation of your entire life.

no, they're still working on it, but they've not figured a way to patch the brains of all the 13 year old e-thugs whose mother says they're cool.
i am informed they're getting close.
incidentally, i feel the weight of peer pressure sucking me in to play in a cassual manner. the way i see it is i play for a month and get bored again, ú30 for a game (sub + expansion) and play it for a month, and that's about average for a game.
fear not, i'm not quitting eve by any stretch, i need somewhere to go to recover from the annoying kids :P ========================================== Iy |

actually, no, all MMORPGs have some core of similarity, EvE is extremely different because it's the only (good) sci-fi MMORPG in existence. however it is PERFECTLY legitimate to compare this game to the LEADING GAME of this genre. it is also perfectly legitimate to, as in this case, discuss the consequences of a new expansion for one of this game's competitors, or any other changes in other games - as they might draw folks away, ot they might drive people to quit the other game, potentially leavign them to come and check out EvE.
GTA and Halo can't be compared because one is an FPS and the other is a crap game with no discernable genre other than you run about being a **** and trying to be "gangsta" or some ****, i don't know, i got bored after about five minuites.
BTW: forgive the double post, i felt the points made in both (+ the length of this post) warranted separating them. ========================================== Iy |

WoW has 8 million active subscriber accounts, which is larger than a lot of countries. EVE isn't even close.
I don't play WoW, but by looking at the numbers it seems safe to assume that it must be doing something right. I'm sure those who get burned out from EVE would share similar views to those who get burned out from WoW like the majority of the posters in these forums seem to be.

Probably very very true. To be blunt, if I didn't like flying in ships I'd probably not be in eve, I don't like the amount of legal (withing the game) harassment and grief that can be dumped on a person. Alas, I like ships, and not elves, trolls, orcs, swordfighting, etc. So I'm stuck here. Anf as much as you see people tout that the playerbase is more mature here, I haven't seen it. The tactics (I've seen) are primarily schoolyard bully pvp, and the snobbery and flaming here on the forum isn't any different then any other game I have seen. I really had hoped for better.
