They'll be back.
WoW has new content, but really, it's just more of the same stuff many people already grew bored of long ago.
WoW got some pretty new decorations, but it's still the same cage as most MMORPG games.
They'll be back.

The number of players logged into EVE are about right for this time of day. We generally see peak player numbers around 2000 GMT Sunday evenings. I think things are going well, in spite of the release WoW's expansion.

no, but you have to download the lastest 220mb patch for wow, if you deleted it after installing it 2 weeks ago :) or if you activated your account after a year break, like some workmates, its 1,2gb patches waiting to download 0o and you have crashing servers or missing npcs behind the dark portal and other issues :) same desasters like eve has, but with millions of angry supscribers ^^

Hrm. Has everyone seen the video 'Everyone in WOW has AIDS?'
WoW is more desperate for patches, admittedly that one was fixed, than EVE has ever had or will need. Not to mention lag.
Try and log on in WOW anytime and I bet you it will feel like Jita on primetime with 26 empire wars going on, and motherships releasing fighters while 9 doomsday devices are going off and a goonie blob just jumped in.

Please stop. It's ok not to like WoW - EvE is far more interesting in my opinion - but spreading lies like WoW = lag fest etc is just pathetic.
Burning Crusade launch was really, really successful. I've never seen such a smooth expansion pack release, and WoW is not my first online game.

I'll be up front here and state that, for the recond I dumped wow faster than a week old sack of **** when I found eve, but aside near the auction house in ironforge (When this was the only alliance only auction house ) and when 200 people raided the crossroads at the time, I remeber it being reasonably lag free.

Agreed. It actually makes Eve players look bad and hurts Eve's image for this blind hate.
WoW is a well-designed game, but it is a theme park....whereas Eve is more of a world simulator. Comparing the two is idiotic.

Please explain then why many more people who actually play MMO's as MMO's and not like CounterStrike say that WoW is a sucky game.
It would also explain why SWG is so sucky now, and not before SOE ****** it up

As a former WoW player ( *shudder* don't hate me it was a dark time ) I can say that blizzard is no better come patch day then ccp. In WoW you could expect to not be playing much for atleast a week.
And CCP have a far better system for maintenance. In WoW they leave it to about 6 hours on every monday or so. Saturday and Sunday ( omg sundays we didn't do anything that might be important) don't expect to be doing much because you can expect the server to crash atleast once. Sundays you might even manage 3-4 crashes. Thats every week.

Edited by: Plutoinum on 17/01/2007 09:32:10 If I wanted to see the new high-end content in the expansion, I probably had to talk to my old guild and they needed to help me gather the equipment of 3 raid instances just to be up-to-date again and well-equipped for the new stuff, so probably a few hundred hours gametime. No, I rather stay here.
Summer 2005, when I quit, my equipment with 13 epics mostly from Molten Core was top notch, now new applicants for my old guild need at least AQ40+ armor gear and BWL weapons, from which I have none. The grind won't get me so fast again. WOW is like a job.

Great odins raven will people stop comparing WoW to EvE. They have totally differen't 'level' systems. They are based around totally different stories They are aimed at different styles of play They are aimed at different markets One is pvp orientated and one is pve orientated One is meant to be player controlled the other is meant to be npc controlled. They have different art directions
They are two totally different games give it a frakin' rest already. It's like watching people compare GTA to Halo or something relativly stupid. --------

34k is the concurrent player record on a sunday. Usually the game has about 25k players during a normal evening. I havent noticed any changes at all because of the new WoW stuff. Personally Im not sure why anyone would even go back to WoW since all they do is release more of the same stuff all the time. Some more races, some more areas, some more dungeons. So what? Its not lack of content that makes most people sick of WoW, its lack of fun.

wow is repetitive clicking and grinding, and has a treadmill complex that doesnt allow anybody to go anywhere really, leveling up to fight slightly stronger monsters? so what the better drops would mean the same thing to you as your drops you get now? on the other hand eve is different and i cant explain why it is addictive, its just much harder to explain because there is a lot more things to consider, eve is definately more deep though, you can feel how deep this game is by trying to define it. try it.

At least in EvE when you are on fleet ops your success or failure has some consequences. In WoW it is just a prelude to kvetching about who gets the best loot.
For all the jokes about folks in big alliances on EvE being basement dwellers, WoW truly encourages the abbrogation of your entire life.

no, they're still working on it, but they've not figured a way to patch the brains of all the 13 year old e-thugs whose mother says they're cool.
i am informed they're getting close.
incidentally, i feel the weight of peer pressure sucking me in to play in a cassual manner. the way i see it is i play for a month and get bored again, ú30 for a game (sub + expansion) and play it for a month, and that's about average for a game.
fear not, i'm not quitting eve by any stretch, i need somewhere to go to recover from the annoying kids :P ========================================== Iy |

actually, no, all MMORPGs have some core of similarity, EvE is extremely different because it's the only (good) sci-fi MMORPG in existence. however it is PERFECTLY legitimate to compare this game to the LEADING GAME of this genre. it is also perfectly legitimate to, as in this case, discuss the consequences of a new expansion for one of this game's competitors, or any other changes in other games - as they might draw folks away, ot they might drive people to quit the other game, potentially leavign them to come and check out EvE.
GTA and Halo can't be compared because one is an FPS and the other is a crap game with no discernable genre other than you run about being a **** and trying to be "gangsta" or some ****, i don't know, i got bored after about five minuites.
BTW: forgive the double post, i felt the points made in both (+ the length of this post) warranted separating them. ========================================== Iy |

WoW has 8 million active subscriber accounts, which is larger than a lot of countries. EVE isn't even close.
I don't play WoW, but by looking at the numbers it seems safe to assume that it must be doing something right. I'm sure those who get burned out from EVE would share similar views to those who get burned out from WoW like the majority of the posters in these forums seem to be.

Probably very very true. To be blunt, if I didn't like flying in ships I'd probably not be in eve, I don't like the amount of legal (withing the game) harassment and grief that can be dumped on a person. Alas, I like ships, and not elves, trolls, orcs, swordfighting, etc. So I'm stuck here. Anf as much as you see people tout that the playerbase is more mature here, I haven't seen it. The tactics (I've seen) are primarily schoolyard bully pvp, and the snobbery and flaming here on the forum isn't any different then any other game I have seen. I really had hoped for better.
