My understanding is that they start at a 75% rate, but with good refining skills, how close to 100% can you get?
Fuel aside, can you get so that they're as efficient as an NPC refinery, if you take into account the fact that you're not paying taxes? |

they are 75% with MAX skills except ice which is 100% with ice.

Actually, you're both incorrect. POS refineries function as 50% station refineries, but the end result is always reduced by either 25% or 65% depend on the refinery type, sort of like an invisible tax. The only exception is ice refining, which doesn't get the "tax".
So if you have the skills to get 100% refine at a 50% station (I believe it is RE 5 and ore specific 1) then you'll get either 35% or 75% at a pos array, but increasing your skills even more will have no effect.

Well my issue is more to do with ore amounts.
We're far enough away from a station to make having a POS to mine from very handy, yet close enough to an NPC station to mean that the extra 25% might be worth it.
If only there was a way of shifting 1,000,000m3 of ore at a time from a POS. But even a carrier is inefficient at it, fitting SFA in the cargo even with expanders, and only holding a single industrial, which cant run expanders at all. |

Actually , it is correct. The best ones on the market are the intensives which state "Refining yield multiplier 0.75 x" so if you can refine at 100% in an NPC station you will get 75% using these at a POS.

we all are keeping our fingers crossed that the new ORE capship will be able to either refine in space with better results than the POS refinery, or will be able to "dock" with a corp hanger array to move minerals..
Currently if you don't have a station close by, you have to suffer with a 75% refine..
BTW: it the larger POS array works like a 50% station, but it then multiplies the result by .75 at the end of the refine, so MAX you can get is 75% refine... that and it takes like 3 hours.. Sucks doesn't it.. :(

What you got to remember is the amount of time it takes to haul the ore to a station. That amount of time can be better spent doing more mining so you may end up with more minerals in the same amount of time than it did to haul all the ore.

Our closest outpost is around 7 jumps away. All the ore there takes a lot of time. Really a lot. :) Alliance that owns the station takes 10% tax.
So 25% loss is converted in only 15% loss. Which is not that bad actually.
