Changes that need to be made to solve this problem.
1. log off/ drop timer made 15 minutes regardless of aggro.
If you want to log off in space in 0.0 space you should have to find an empty system to do it in. Or just baby sit your character for the 15 minute timer to avoid being probed. Currently, the 15 minute timer only applies when someone has actually been able to lock and aggro you.
This was implemented to counter the ppl who logged off during a fight and disappeared before their ship exploded. It also saved the pod as well since no one could probe it fast enough to get it. Sadly, the measure only went half way. PPl just log the instant anyone enters local or the instant their screen loads and they are still cloaked.
2. POS shields should act as a warp bubble/scrambler to all ships inside the shields.
Might be a pain in the ass to have to fly out of the shields every time you want to warp away but fair is fair. If not this then you should still have to baby sit you character for 15 minutes while the timer counts down.
3. Make disrupter bubbles stop emergancy warps.
This is to prevent CTRL+Q exploiting the emergency warp while you wait out your 15 minute timer. They got you fair and square. Figure out a way to survive without cheating.
4. If a dictor launches a bubble it should not be able to jump. It needs to be a form of aggro.
Fair is fair. No more just sitting on the gate launching bubbles every time the gate fires. If you launch it you better be prepared to fight whatever decloaks cause you will be inside the bubble too.
No one can hear you scream in space, so just shut up and die already. |

The wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round....
I've an idea.
How about...logging off within 150KM of a gate results in your ship not disappearing for 15-30 minutes no matter what. Logging off after any type of 'aggressive' act (being targeted, scrambled, bubbled, etc) has been started results in your ship not disappearing for 15-30 minutes. Grand, isn't it? Now the real pirates with skill can track you down and destroy you if they wish.
And here's part 2 of my idea. Scrambling and bubbles no longer work within 150KM of a gate without a...hmm...something nearby. The general idea would be a game mechanic allowing them to work as part of warfare, but not for the general hoards of people who want easy kills. Poof. Noobs/lazy/impatient people/and those who just got caught with their pants down on a bad day no longer have to worry about silly little gate camps.
And there we have it. Non-pirates/travellers are now free to waltz through gates assuming there isn't enough firepower on the other side of the gate to destroy their ship quickly, but are more likely than not going to be destroyed if they attempt to log off. Pirates would no longer be stuck having to watch single points in systems and are instead free to roam the entire system for opportunities to display their incredible finesse in target destruction.
No more "I win" button for either side. If there is a flaw with my reasoning other than "But I want to be able to stop itty bitty ships at the gate because they pose no threat and I can kill them easy!" or "But I want to be able to get away for free if big, bad pirate comes in and I know I won't be able to warp away before he can do something agressive 'cause I forgot to align!" then feel free to point them out and I will revise. Undoubtedly, these are the two main arguments I'd get against the ideas I mentioned up above.

That's refering to PvE. That player guide was written before logging off in a bubble worked, when logging off in combat was generally considered an ill advised career move (even with lower aggro timers). ___

How do you suppose alliances protect their space, huh? Get into a 20+ blob of sensor boostered BS every single time you want to guard a system? Niiiice.

Has it ever occurred to you that it's not an unintentional bug but one CCP has put in as a compromise between server drops and intentional logging? CCP assumes that if a ship is warp scrambled, the client was there long enough and it is more likely an intentional log than not. Whereas with gate bubbles, they are set up precisely where there is a higher chance of lag or drop, and thus the warping in behavior is put in place. The lag or dropping may be as much the server's fault as the client's. Hence, the difference in behavior between logging out scrambled versus bubbled.
Until you can name an equally elegant solution to fleets dropping from system jump in, preventing bubble warping is not a solution to the logging off mechanic.

If you're a corp or alliance with sovreignity over an area you'd likely have whatever the hell it is I'm trying to think of that'd counter the gates not allowing bubbles.
For example (and this is just an example...take it with a grain of salt). An alliance or corp with a POS or three capital class ships in the system would be allowed to deploy bubbles at the gates. This can be tweaked to allow this only when war decced or something or left as it's worded.

0.0 doesn't work like that. If you can only defend systems with POS in them you can't defend squat. You need to defend chokepoints if you want to stop people from entering a region, and as the many people who've stuck POS in chokepoints will know they don't last long.
It's too easy for some wannabe to hide in lowsec then just jump in and pawn your POS before you have time to go 'wtf?'
Oh, I also forgot to mention pirates - what about them? People tend not to sit around in belts with faction gear y'know? Gatecamps are essential to pirates staying profitable.

Sure, except that fixing lag is a much harder problem to solve than logging off behavior. That's why most claims to solve the logging behavior ignore the bigger issue.
A CCP designer himself stated (the same one who I quoted earlier as saying that logging off to avoid death is legal) that he hates when players logoff to avoid death. If the solution was as simple as preventing ships from warping when bubbled, you don't think CCP would have done that in about five minutes? The problem is a much thornier one than just the logging off mechanic because it has to do with server performance and lag.

Yeah a straw man argument would be if I said something like... "Forcing you to log off only at stations would result in loads of NPC'ers losing ships in missions" and then trying to make it look like you;d argued that point when you hadn't.
However it also says in you sig "as well as personally attacking you" which, correct me if I'm wrong, calling someone "mentally retarded" falls under.
Also, editing someone else's quote, while clearly not intended to be taken as literal truth, falls extremely close to the fallacious methods of straw man arguments.

In that case upgrade my comment to 'region they have sovreignity over' as opposed to 'system'. I did say it could be tweaked. As far as alliances defending their areas nothing changes in this respect.
As far as pirates...I have a feeling that nothing will kill PVP in Eve. The good ones will find alternatives and thrive, as they've done with every other change that's been made to the game. In fact, I seem to recall several threads about how WTZ was going to kill piracy and PVP just before it was introduced. I'd wager to say 99% of the pvp happens there because it's drastically easier there.

Probably the same way people get angry that they jump through a gate only to discover some lamers are spawn camping at it, and then they get slaughtered, with absolutely NOTHING they can do about it.
Soon as CCP removes the ability to spawn camp they get my full support to do everything to stop logoffski.

By the way..to clarify my position I'll drop these words.
I don't support either side.
I see most gate camping as a kill with no victory. I said most. I didn't say all. Do you see that? Most. I think it's pretty lame and overly easy. I don't think ANY kind of PvP should be easy. Simple, maybe. Clicking a few buttons. Easy, no. You need to know what buttons to click, when and where. An example would be an MMO I played previously. When it originally came out players were open to PvP from level 75+ and it went by level range below that. i.e. a level 200 could curbstomp a level 75 and the level 75 would have absolutely no chance in hell. The rules have been changed to allow pvp only within a certain level range, now...so a level 75 can be attacked by anyone between level 62-87 for example. Makes it more fairly matched, but it does kinda screw up the 'realistic immersion' of the game so I didn't like that, either.
As for the ones that log off to avoid dying...that screws up the immersion a bit, too, and I think it's as lame as the gate camping, because it's too easy. There are a few other tools that can be used in the place of this, though their a bit harder and not always reliable. Anyone that's been disconnected (really disconnected) would be able to prove the case and petition for whatever gear they may have lost. The rest that use logging off as a way to save themselves some other way.
In short, it's a game, but I'd prefer it be more challenging for the predator and the prey. Pirates are going to have to work for that ISK and that kill they want. Potential victims are going to have to work to evade and save their ships.

Yeah, that's the origin of the word. It's still retarded though. What's wrong with just saying 'logoff'?
"Logoff" is a regular logoff. "Logoffski" is a quick logoff to avoid losses. Of course.
Nero, you should think about these things before you post.

Was he polish? or does it mean skiing down a mountain on a log hopeing you dont fall off? either way it is not a word used by mature people.
I didn't bother to read all 4 pages of this, so if this has been answered, forgive me.
I learnt of the word when I used to fight RA. I think its called 'logoffski' because they were the most notorious for it, hence the russian influence. ;D
At least thats what I think...

Yeah, that's the origin of the word. It's still retarded though. What's wrong with just saying 'logoff'? It reminds me of offices when a quote off TV gets popular and everyone goes about saying it non-stop thinking it makes them just as funny and 'wacky' as the person who said it originally.
