All I can say is CCP should impliment a solution to this as it leads to a negative outlook to players who are communicating to one another. Glad to know that works though.

this only started working since DT
it also works if you open the mail, read the mail and close the mail window, then reboot client

Jenny is right. It only started working since downtime. I just discovered that you don't even have to left-click in the mail message for it to stay read. A friend sent me a mail. I click on his name in the upper-left pane, I could see the message title in the upper-right pane, and the message body in the lower pane. I did not click in the message body, but closed the mail, logged off, and logged back on. It was still marked as read.
Looks like the devs released a small patch during downtime.

If the devs wont fix the stupid bug then they at least need to make this a sticky, tho that may require more work than actually fixing the bug.

Well done for finding the fix. But I'm surprised noone's noticed it yet. I mean, I have a lot of "unread" mails... but never a killmail (which I copy-paste, of course). You'd think it'd click in SOMEONE's head =P
