In light of recent post titles such as "The server is unplayable", "Make 2 servers" and "Lag lag lag cry cry rabble rabble rabble" I have decided to make a post about just how much I'm not suffering from lag.
I live in Australia so I don't exacaly have access to the most amazing internet connection speeds in the world. I sometimes run missions in empire, always in Amarr space. I sometimes head into 0.0 with my corps/alliances and join in camps/fleet battles. Occaisionally I lag a bit but it's never more than a few seconds and very little will really happen in those few seconds that wouldn't have happened anyway so it doesn't worry me. I have lost a few ships to 'lag related' incidents all of which I have recieved back through petitions (one still pending). All in all I don't feel that lag makes Eve "Unplayable" or even "Frustrating". Latency is a natural part of the internet's structure circa 2007 and it's something that we as gamers have always been able to deal with and work through. Thanks CCP!! Much e-luv.
btw: GTFO of Jita/Motsu/Caldari space.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight that matters, it's the number of dogs you warp in with. |

No -- anything less than perfection is not a reasonable objective. Just because your play isn't totally wrecked by lag does not mean that your play can't be improved by less lag. Come on -- let's keep the pressure on! CCP should strive to achieve what is achievable.

Edited by: Nikla Uthaan on 29/01/2007 04:39:57 tbh, i dont get much lag either, even on mish with huge amounts of structures.
edit: In case there's <moan>You run mish and dont understand lag</moan>, I'm running in 0.0 atm, and I'm referencing that lag is *worst* in my missions, and that PvP is actually rather lag free, except where traffic spikes on my LAN are concerned, which aren't CCP's concern ----------------- One word,, emo,,,

The only time I get lag is if I'm downloading in the background, surfing the web, and watching family guy.

Roffles.. I live in low sec and 0.0 and very rarely have the issues stated on the forums..
But yeah back ontopic.. Even during the worst of the lag post fest a few months back I still never got the horrible eve killing lag problems so many reported.. ( Not saying they didn't happen as the Devs did respond about the POS bug and some load balancing issues for larger fleet battles.. ) A lag spike here and there for a few minutes at most but never the days long can't log in stuck at the password screen omg I got killed for the 123348348347th time on a fleet battle jump in.. Oh well guess some people just don't have any luck.. Of course now I'll probably log on tonite and get stuck in a backwater system..

I get 10 seconds of jump in lag when I enter Jita. Flying through space for the most part is a breeze. Now last week.... that was hell. I was having 30 seconds lag spikes every half hour or so. But coulda been my connection :S

Playing next to lagfree too. I get minor lag at times in two situations: - Jita at the bussiest time of the week. But never so much i get stuck there just enough to make getting away from the station with a freighter a little bit harder - In mission with a lot of frigs targetting you all at once simultanious with attleast 4 large ships. This happens occasionally and leads to screen freezing up for a few seconds.
All in all i say its acceptable. Jita is crowded and the more space it gets on the server the more people will go and live there. There is no fighting Jita since the players seem to think they have no responsibility in it. And well, with the missions ... it could easely be a problem on my end. It's so minor and rare to happen that I have been to lazy to even try to figure out where it went wrong.

Happens to me in plexs.. When I aggro the whole room at once the client locks up until they all have a lock.. Turning off the auto targeter in the menu options helps with this greatly but still will lag a bit.. My observations have been that anything that has to load data freezes the client.. Loading the icons for the lock ons are probably what does it for mass mission/plex aggro.. And that why I never click links in the in-game browser anymore.. Damm things lock up the client permanently most of the time..

no lags either except maybe the hardrive clogging up upon LOTS of new tiny thingies to load (defrag'ed raid 0 across 3x sata I, ramdrive for cache, running out of ideas) the "overloaded" issues i see are undocking from jita 4/4 when 30.000 users online or entering a clogged up 0.0 system and the entire gang gets spread within 1mil km around the gate due to "loosing connection"

Even Jita lag is bearable. Saila is the worst imo. That system kicks me constantly and I just pass through it to sell rig parts in motsu. Yes, I know, I'll stop doing that.
But other than that, lag is not a problem for me either. People should stop complaining about it and complain about things that actually do require attention.

You could be right but it isnt bothering me enough to figure it out. It happens rarely and when it does it could be that I get that same missions a second time on the same evening and the second time everything remains as it should be. It doesnt even seem to be a problem that lasts for long. Could be client side, could be a hickup from a big group of people jumping in together, could be just my virusscanner starting a scan in the background.

Latency is just one part of the lag. Go do something that requires minimal lag, like chasing down a ship, warping your pod out of a gank without spamming the warp to button 30 seconds before you actually blow up, jumping into and fighting a large group of enemy ships, doing a level 4 like WC or fleet fighting.
Many things in EvE you can do perfectly well without lagging significantly, I live in Australia too btw and I had better connection using dial up from Sydney a few years ago, then I do now using high speed cable. Hell I used to PvP with Infinity and my alt perfectly well on the same pc running two clients on dial up.
I dont really care too much about the lag since I dont care if I die or not really however making a post that essentially says 'im fine so everyone else must be fine' is not too bright. The Privateering Life |

Stupid thread,,,
There are 15k people online at the moment,,, try it with 30k+ online and you'll have a different experience.
When I'm usually online on Sundays Eve is unplayable and I have to sign off or die in game.
Basically this thread is a "I couldnt give a monkey's nuts about other people's problems".
If you dont have a problem then you dont really have any sensible input into the process do you ???
It's a bit like me saying there isn't a drought in England when there is one in Austrailia.

I think the OPs point is too show that there are indeed players enjoying a lag free game so as to not give the impression that all of eve is running like shiat as some topic starters would like to have us belive.. So go post in that thread if your having problems mate.. We will be here kicking back and enjoying our smooth sailing gaming session..

I almost never experience lag. Have not ever lost a ship to lag, nor lost a pod to lag. And yeah, IŠve been PVP-only since 3 years back. So I would say: what lag? :D

Pointing out that 15k users have less lag than 30k users and you really couldnt give a sh@t seems to me to be very purile,,, but hey if you guys wanna show how little intelligence, ignorant and selfish you are,,,, who am I to stop you ?

Could you please explain to me the logic behind assuming that just cause we now post at this quiet time of day we never played at the bussy time of day without any lag or without any lag that actually bothered us enough to think it a game breaker?

Because he craves attention and arguing any point he can salves it to a degree I suppose.. Some people are so self absorbed in thier own problems to the point they wont let anyone else have a good time if their day is not smiles and rainbows.. Eh.. Takes all kinds to make Eve the fun plave it is I guess..

I am going to have to agree with the OP.
Ive been playing for a few years, always as a pvp player. I have rarely experienced lag. The times I have seen it have only been during something bad happening with the servers. Those times it was obvious something was wrong don't undock.
I have never lost a ship due to lag, nor a pod. Jita is a bit slower, but still very playable even in a combat situation.
I am not denying that folks do experience lag, but perhaps some should check out what could be going on in there computers that could create client side lag?
I'm no computer genius, but i do know enough to keep one clean and running smooth.
Anyway thats my 2 cents on the topic. If ya wanna flame me, your gonna do it anyway

Edited by: Andrue on 29/01/2007 08:20:13 Same here. I hardly ever have any lag. There is the occasional day here and there or a patch needing to settle into place but that's about it. My alt has recently had to start going to Jita (well not had to but it's been the closest to him) and even there I didn't encounter anything much in the way of lag. I'd like to congratulate CCP on achieving the single shard dream. It's been a bit rough at times but mostly it works well for me. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

That has to be your connection or your PC. My alt was in Jita in the evenings (game time) several days last week and it was fine. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Heh
As mentioned in the other post, I don't really suffer from lag. I've run lots of missions before I got bored of them, I live in 0.0 now, I shop in Jita.
Yes Jita is a little slower than other systems, but not unplayably so.
I've never experienced the kind of lag that if you believe all the whines is commonplace, modules taking 60 seconds to activate etc.

Then again we were 35 jumps away from Jita.
