CCP Snorlax, thank-you for your work on this (I'm running again) - it's good to know someone is keeping an eye out for Linux users.
As it's being used to justify support for us, can people turn back on showing the wine version to the application so he can continue to gather information justifying his support. |

Yep, turned hide version back off. Thanks again for the informal support, CCP Snorlax. Looking forward to that golden day when I can undo "disable dx11", but that is for a different group of hardworking devs and not CCP's problem. |

Patch is downloaded and working. Wine version mask is turned off.
It has been said before on this thread, but I will unabashedly say it again because you need to hear it: Thank you, Snorlax!! We very much appreciate you looking out for us!
And, while I'm at it, an equal thank you to Ahishatz who got a bunch of us working yesterday while the official patch was winding its way through the upgrade queue.

Yes, it does indeed look like the new patch update fixed it for everyone...
It's great that you support Linux users via Wine... but I first played eve /because/ I noticed it had Linux support... perhaps it would be possible to mention Linux on the download page, and have an article with some set up details... or even a link to Wine HQ so that people browsing the site could discover that it works on Linux as I did.

Thanks for support, came back to eve after a 4 years pause because I discovered it worked on Linux, would never have installed Windows to play. |

There's no official linux support for EVE. If it works - it's pure coincidence and good will on part of developers (well, probably also has something to do with them still having to maintain MAC client, so it has at least to work with cider, and that's not that far from wine).
There was once upon a time a linux client (aka a windows client in a cedega wrapper), but that's a tale of the days long past. |

Do tell what you did for PlayOnLinux. :)
Launch the PlayOnLinux GUI
Click on the install for eve. Mine I've inventively named evelauncher
Your Eve wine instance should come up as a drop down with any other programs in it that you have.
eg mine is a 32 bit wine instance with two versions of the old launcher and one version of the new launcher in it.
Go to the Wine tab for your Eve instance
Press the "Configure Wine" which will bring up winecfg inside your Eve wine instance.
Assuming your wine version for your eve instance is a staging version it will hae a "Staging" tab which has a check box for "Hide Wine version from applications"
I've just unticked my hide wine from applications box and Eve works fine without it.
So you don't need to tick the box anymore but you know how to for next time ;)
EVE LogLite is working just fine for me in wine as part of the new launcher launch. |

easy way to keep wine up to date via playonlinux
-open playonlinux (german version) -upper row -> tools -> manage wine version (menuleiste - werkzeuge - wine version verwalten) -left field, mark the aviable wine version -> to right and install (links die wine version ausw+ñhlen, mit -> nach rechts und installieren) -then tell/config your installation the new wine version
never change a running system!

If I get proper statistics on Wine usage, it helps me build a case for ensuring Wine stays working. What I actually wonder is why you ship two different clients, Win + Mac to support two operating systems when you could just ship one client which supports win32 and wine which runs on a wide range of operating systems? I mean there is even a reference platform for Linux gaming everyone can agree up on, which is Steam OS, so you don't have to support multiple distros, they will make sure they stay compatible to Steam OS anyway.
It seams to me that would be even less effort than supporting two clients. But not sure, maybe my expectations are way off here.

I know, I used that transgaming stuff for Linux back when they forked it and even used the Linux EVE client for a short while. But still they ship it separately and use a technology which only works for one platform when they could have all of them.

Unfortunately the patch has not fixed it for me. With or without the checkbox for hiding the version I cannot launch EVE. Yesterday I could launch EVE with the box checked.

Thanks, this solved the problem.
Why would their be a new 32bit depency where the 64bit version won't work? Is this just an obscure change within the game engine which CCP doesn't support for 64bit? |

The funny thing is, it was always a dependency. I remember this question surfacing maybe 1,5 years ago. No clue how you were managing to fool the Universe into thinking it should work all this time. It just finally caught up on the lie.
Maybe some obscure dll overrides? |
