Use medium guns. With that setup you wont really tank much, and you definately wont gank much other than a T1 frig.

I tried FMP IIs before I posted this. The damage difference between the two was about 4 DPS and the range difference was about 500m. Using these weapons or even FMP IIs you will have a range of 5-7km depending on skills and thus you really need a MWD to get in range. I was considering the double reps, but I would have to sacrifice the MWD which indirectly cuts my DPS since it takes longer to get in range and I would have to take off the HS II which directly cuts the DPS by 50.
I see it like this. With 11k armour and one rep going I will simply outlast my opponent because of all the damage I am doing. I can own drone ships because the tracking is so amazing with the QLBLs paired with the web. Any ships equipped with guns will have their tracking messed up with me orbiting at 5km unless they are using a similar setup or blasters.
I would like to know how it would stand up against other teir 2 BCs specifically the myrmidon.

You used quickfit to calculate the '4 DPS difference' between the two guns didnt you? Quickfits DPS calculator is 99% broken.
Their dps is much much lower, and you will pretty much die without heavy pulse II. some people say FMP but thats up to them, 14% dps difference against FMP and HPL could mean life or death.

Actualy QLB and FMP are VERY VERY Similar in DPS. And Quad Light Beams look superawesome on your ship with all the barrels on them.
The big difference which makes QLB suck is:
1. 1km Falloff. Seriously, 1km, this is lower than the falloff for small guns
2. 9.6km otpimal. For a weapon with 1km falloff, this is way way too low, especialy because...
3. Cant use tech 2 ammo. What you say? Sure it has tech 2 ammo, but its tech 2 long range ammo. Gleam has a wopping 75% range penalty. Which means that while tracking is great, you are sitting with a weapon with a max optimal range of 3km with a falloff of 1 km. This is to do "conflag" type damage in the close range. Multifrequency works... but...
There is no real tech 2 long range option, which is the prefered ammo type of all lasers everwhere because its pretty much the only tech 2 ammo worth using[cap penalty and much larger tracking on conflag, its O.K. but the laser advantage is range. If you can deal with changing the crystals then its not too bad if you can get something to stick still]. Aurora has a nice big range modifier... and a nice big 75% tracking penalty. Compared to the 25% tracking penalty on scorch... well, you get the picture. Lets just say that tracking advantage went out the window.
The other bad thing about Aurora is that it only does 16 damage[10 Em, 6 therm] compared to Scorches 22 damage[20 em, 2 therm]. 4 thermal damage is not worth 10 EM damage.
That is why QLB's arent usefull. If the range penalty on gleam wasnt so bad, it might be a different story, but you are better off using the FMP's because you can make better use of the tech 2 ammo than you are using QLB's with tech 1
ed: Also, your build is CPU and Powergrid short I almost positive. Needs a PG rig and isnt good enough to justify the expendature. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

Possibly a PG rig? With AWU5 and no grid rig, you can fit that setup... with an AB II and a DCU instead of MWD/Plate.
With a PG rig? You get a 400mm plate. 400mm plate on a Battlecruiser=bad idea.
To make that setup decent you'd need double gridrigs, and that lets you use an 800mm plate. But really, you could just slap a DCU on instead and use that second rig slot for something more useful.
Edit: It also falls well short on CPU to fit the MWD, even if Grid issues weren't considered.

Edited by: 0raven0 on 31/01/2007 02:49:01 Just checked the DPS, with the HP II setup you get 436 DPS compared to the QLBL's 500, but w/T2 conflagration crystals you get about 530 DPS. Now since 7 HP II would cost me 42 million and 7 QLBLs would only cost 1.4m I would rather go with the QLBLs.
BUT FMP IIs give 586 DPS with conflagration cystals beating all setups. I stripped off that plate and threw on a damage control because its actually giving me 2k more resisted HP then the 1600mm tungsten plate did as well as boosting all my other resists and freeing up enough PG for the FMP IIs as well as having NO pg rigs needed and 2 damage rigs which suck up PG themselves. I still have over 200 PG and 8.5 CPU left over with the following setup. Its also 38m cheaper than the HP II setup due to the cost of HP IIs being 7m each and FMP IIs being 400k.
I decided to take off some of the more exspensive modules for now just because they were more expensive than they were worth to have on the setup, ie the EANM IIs(20m) and named microwarp drive(5m). The setup will fit fine with them and you don't even need Advanced weapon upgrades, but this is a PvP ship so I will probably lose it eventually and would rather 2 near-excellent ships than 1 excellent ship. When invention starts kicking in and T2 is cheap I plan to use the EANM IIs. So here she is...

Something is very wrong with your numbers.
1. Heavy Pulse does more damage than Focused Medium Pulse
2. Focused Medium Pulse does more damage than Quad Light Beams.
3. energy weapon rigs are never worth it unless you fly an abaddon and need some cap usage reductions on those megapulses.

Thanks Korrey.
I didn't want to do the numbers but you guys made me. Ok yes HP II are better than FMP II but not in the setups provided. In the HP II setup you can only use 1 heat sink II and 1 damage rig. Sure you can change the setup to use a second heat sink II but there goes your tank, but yes you get a whole 3 DPS more per laser instead of a nice tank. So Heavy pulse with bad tank and same DPS vs Focused medium pulse with same DPS and great tank. I choose tank + damage. Here are numbers
Same skills. Focused medium pulse laser II + 2x Heat sink II + 2x T1 energy burst Aerator = 5.423 damage mod and 2.02 RoF Heavy Pulse Laser II + 1 Heat Sink II + 1 energy burst Aerator = 7.484 damage mod and 3.2 RoF
5.423/2.02= 2.68465*28(conflag crystal) = 75.2 DPS per laser. With 7 lasers thats 526.4 7.484/3.2= 2.33875*28(conflag crystal) = 65.5 DPS per laser. With 7 Lasers thats 485.5 Nearly 15% more DPS with the FMP IIs.
Point made? Yes.

Well, the Harbinger isnt a tanker, that is what the prophecy does. Personally, i perfer a beam setup since the drop between Beams and Pulses is relativly small[compared to say any other short range weapon and its long range companion] and the ability to hit without needing a propulsion module is really really handy.
It also means its gang only, but that is the price you pay.
Yes, the FMP setup will be able to field a MWD and the HP only an AB. I am still not sure the FMP setup is worth it instead of just training for a Hurricane. I am at the moment leaning to the Hurricane[no cap use on guns, more DPS, better tank] since it can do all of that in the short range setup with better tracking, better damage types, better damage[HAM launchers instead of NOS on top] with an injector and a double rep tank and the biggest guns available to you. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

Nerf the Hurricane, nerf the myrm, keep the drake and boost the harb!
I have BC 5 so I can be pretty efficient with whichever BC but of course I only have T2 weapons trained for amarr so the harb is best for me.

Well with AC 4 and best named guns you will do 400 or so DPS[surgical strike 4 computed, 5 everything else] with 425's and 3 dmg mods.
You should be able to add some damage with HAM's, but with drone damage since you are using conflag you will probably end up about 100 DPS off your harbingers mark. But you get a double rep tank, and are faster and smaller. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

ed: if you want a ganking/tanking battlecruiser with turrets its worth it to train AC's and get in a hurricane. Max gun DPS with hail is about 670 [+ HAM launchers + Drones], max guns DPS with barrage is 526. You will be able to do as much DPS as an HP harbinger while sporting a double rep tank[that runs off the cap booster]. Downside is the skill training. But its still plenty good without the missiles.
Thanks, I plan on sending my alt down the matari path anyway.. For this character though I plan to continue specializing in amarr.

Why not spend the same amount and fit an Amrageddon with a LARII, cap booster, MPII's, and a couple 1600mm or so]
1 PG rig and 2 rep rigs give it a hefty boost in survivability. Or maybe 2 cap rigs a dual LAR setup and a medium cap booster?[15 less cap/second than the large, much easier to fit]

1 Y-S8 AB 1 Medium Electrochemical (800's) 1 Fleeting Propultion Inhibitor 1 Fleeting Progressive Warp Scrambler I
2 Medium Armor Rep II 2 Energized Adaptive Nano II 2 Heat Sink II
5 T2 Vespas (So i'm not just using EM+Therm)
Rigs: 1 Auxillary Nano Pump (15% Rep Amount) 2 Cap Recharge Thingies that i can't remember thier names.
It's very tight on CPU but if you have good fitting skills it works nicely. DPS Is awsome (I went 2v1 with a Ferox and Prophacey and shiped them out before they got 10% through my armor).
Between the rigs, Nos and skills i can run this for ages without worrying about cap use. It's a very nice ship imho.

Screw pvp :-P
I use a Prophecy and hear alot about pulse lasers, but I prefer beams for the sniping. Can take alot down in carebear missions without being hit much myself.
And quads work decently aswell. With webber and a single assault launcher, most frigs take a beating along with drones. Shrug...ofcourse it is way different for pvp, but at least the stuff work :-P --- Currently flying a PvE geared Crusader and Prophecy |
