Edited by: Grez on 31/01/2007 17:06:30 Make the speech bubble smaller, so it doesn't overlay player names.
Impliment an ability to lower the volume of individual players, as some come across as loud to one person, and quiet to another (individual volume settings).
Also a general volume control for voice (to turn up/down everyone) would be nice.
Fading in/out in-game sounds whilst people are talking would be nice too. ---

Edited by: Grez on 31/01/2007 17:25:53 1)Join one of the voice channels.
2)Right click on the channel tab, and select "Join Audio".
3)Tick "Use middle mouse button to talk." http://www.ravenwarriors.com/audiosettings.jpg
4)Select an input/output device. http://www.ravenwarriors.com/audiosettings2.jpg
5)Select an input line. http://www.ravenwarriors.com/audiosettings3.jpg
6)You're all set.
As a note, if you cannot use your middle mouse button, you can go to the "Shortcuts" tab in the options screen, and set an option for "Talk". You can set both this, and the middle mouse button at the same time, so don't be afraid.
If you can, use a headset, as speakers & mic cause feedback. ---

Post found via EVE-Search.
If you do a search on EVE-Search with the parameters author:bustybounty and vivox you'll find a number of posts by BustyBounty reporting that Vivox seems to be fundamentally incompatible with Windows 2000 because it relies on DLL functions that are only present in Windows XP.
According to this post they did bugreport it at the time, but it never attracted developer comment.

Voice;
I set up my options in the 'audio' tab, however I was unable to select the microphone boost option. My sound card settings were correct and I selected to use my middle mouse button as the 'push to talk' (you should allow people to chose their own). Everything in the setup looked fine.
Once inside the voice channels, I tried to right-click the channel tab and 'join voice', however nothing happened. I tried talking on my mic, but got no responce. It's as though I didn't join anything. I tried all the voice channels just in case there was a user limit. I tried in the gang channel as well. - nothing. I didn't hear anyone talking nor did I get any typed responce saying people were able to hear me.
I did see little green and white chat-type icons next to the people in the perspective channels.
-------------- My hardware;
Win XP Pro 64bit (Completely updated) 2gig RAM AMD 64 3700+ (2.21 GHz) SB Audigy Audio (e880) - old sound card, however works extremely nice. Voip (vent/TS/and other voip services work fine.) - drivers are completely updated
-------------
Hope this helps. I'm glad I could help out.
Cheers -T

fleet move went very good. I got lag spikes for every ship coming out of cloak after a jump but other than that it was very smooth.
I had no trouble hearing people talking, the sound is very nice apart from some metallic sound now and again. I couldnt talk since I cant access the audio setting, it shuts down the client when pressing the tab. Ive filed a bug report so I hope it will be solved. ----------------------------------------- For the liberation and safety of the Matari people! |

Overall I'm pretty impressed with Vivox. Sounds really good and is very clear. On top of that you don't have to have ingame audio enabled to hear others... just join the channels you want to be in.
Didn't have any problems with Vivox on my end throughout the test, although agreed it can be difficult to see who is talking in the channel when there's a lot of people listed in it.

Vivox sounded great, really nice work... was very clear. Ran smoothly straight away.
As mentioned further up, the voice icons kinda overlap names. And with buddy, standing and voice icons all in that spot it gets really growded. But thats UI related and not Vivox performance. Would be an option to move buddy and standing over the portaits corners.
Cheers.

(Last thing I heard, they are trying to sort out a new mirror. So thats great, my alt doesn't even have login on Sisi atm. :D)
One other thing I didn't mention in my earlier post. some ppl had theyr mic volume a bit low. Of course you can ask em to adjust it. But maybe its an idea to use a option on each client to auto-adjust their own volume automaticly. Yeah I know double-auto sounds strange, but its accurate. If ppl speak, the system automaticly would activate the adjust sequence coz you wouldn't want the system to boost silent-noise :D That way everyone would 'transmit' at the same strength, allowing each client to adjust voice/music/soundfx volumes to represent their desired values and still get a overal same voice for everyone.
Cheers

Once again:
An option to select voice input and output device independently of each other would be much appreciated.
Finally, an option to (also independently) select output device for game sound would be good, too.

Elaborate please?
Thanks Elaron.
It's been bug reported confirmed 3 times, it has its own thread or three, it's been mentioned in couple other threads and very recently in original Vivox testing sticky post/post.
I'm sorry but I've run out of elaboration methods. What happened to "every bug report is read" and "post here with your feedback"?
Yes, I know. Not many W2k users left and out of those not all are interested in in-game comms. Just, getting "Elaborate please" after all the elaboration already done feels like ...

After reading the motd on sisi, voice worked fine & i liked the quality pretty much.
People who had voice enabled had a white balloon in the chat window.
The balloon turned from white to green if someone talked.
This all worked after enabling voice in the options window and right clicking a channel to join audio.
Once audio is joined on a channel you can leave it the same way (right clicking & leave audio).
Middle mouse button was used for talking but you were able to redefine the key shortcut in the options window.
The booster check box in voice options couldn't be checked was the only thing which didn't worked for me.

It's passworded untill tomorrow's stress test, at which point the password will be removed.
Also please note that Windows Vista is not currently a supported O/S. ________________________________ ~Jiekon ~CCP QA

If whatever causes it to crash on Vista isn't fixed when Vivox goes live, can we at least get the option to disable Vivox? --------------

Edited by: Ceanthar Cerbera on 01/02/2007 23:34:43 Ok I can acess the audio settings! \o/ But theres some strange things going on like eve ovirrides my Realtek audio settings turning the mic down. I can slide the bar in audio settings but it dont save settings and keep the mic input volume to the left. But seeing that up until the latest patch I couldnt acess the audio tab without eve crashing to desktop its a step forward. But it seems to me theres some trouble with onboard realtek HDAudio? I noticed that I only get HDAudio Input in mixer no output device for instance. ----------------------------------------- For the liberation and safety of the Matari people! |
