Is it just me or is the current price for Megacyte killing the game? Mega seems to be up to 20k/unit these days! As a member of a small manufacturing corp, we are having a difficult time coming up with the required ore to complete the next logical step in the game, Battleships. I did some calculating and the mega needed for the ship is 30 million isk alone! Battleships are expensive, to be sure. But the recent hike in price for mega is pricing battleships well beyond the means of most players. It seems to me that CCP had better either drop the price on mega by making it more available or they had better add some CONTENT to the game. Otherwise players are going to get tired of playing and quit.
Just my .02 isk
Any thoughts?

Its got nothing to do with CCP.
The market is run by the players. If no one is prepared to do 20 jumps deep in 0.0 to mine Bistot, the supply of megacyte will be low.
People who actually bothered supplying it wont do it for cheap, hence the price. In turn the ship builders will raise thier ship prices because mega is so expensive.
Things should be better on monday.

Well, but that people have to jump 20 systems into stationless 0.0 HAS to do something with CCP, namely that they didn't fix the respawn so far.
If there wasn't a certain loophole the mega price would have rise so much ages ago. It was pretty much stable at 11-12k for a long time because there was a loophole - giant cans gave, if recycled with max skills, a good amount of mega and other mins. Now if you would sell these mins at market prices and sold the mega for 11k/item you would pretty much make as much money than the giant can did cost. But now they have risen the price for the giant cans by 50%, killing this small exploit.
And, *wooosh*, did the mega price rise suddenly.

not that it will be scarce for much longer. If the devs fix the ore distribution model like they say they are going to do then I expect that megacyte prices will drop like a rock. Especially once we start seeing megacyte and spudomain.

well partly true... however...
Why bistot is rare to find and only exist almost on the edge of universe?
why all bistot systems are on the hands of big corps/alliances/pirate corps?
Another monopoly like did happen to the inclusion of miner 2s in the game?
I'm sorry but the original post is right this is a problem and should be addressed to CCP to review the ore distribution... otherwise there is no point to waste time playing when everything its difficult to get even without these prices of zyd/mega where it impractical to get a bit of things to make small corps working.
By-the-way if I recall this start to happen after a CCP "fix" (and correct me if Im wrong).
CCP I hope that u are looking this issue.

The reason the price on Megacyte has gone up is because those mining it have become greedy. The amount of bistot hasnt changed nor has the distance from the next station in the last months.
But on munday this will probably all change and I will keep on solo mining bistot in the meantime

I don't think greedy, I think more lazy. Most of us with access can't be arsed to do 20-30 jump 1-way trips to mine the stuff. Other activities make better Isk faster. The only reason I mine Bist is for ships. Right now I don't need any.
Monday should be interesting. Sure they're re-distributing roids, but they're also putting in powerful NPC BSes. I can just imagine having to protect a mining party from 2 Scorps and a Raven....

Price too high, more people go out to mine, more minerals available, price come down.
Price too low, people don't think it's worth going out to mine, less minerals available, price go up.
It's not possible for the price to be "wrong."

You don't need to be in an alliance to mine Bistot. You DO need to be in an alliance to mine Bistot anywhere near a station, though.
I suspect one problem is perhaps the Bistot fields in Stain, Curse, and Fountain have dried up near the stations. If alliance members can mine all the Bis they can carry within 10 jumps of home, there will be a lot of cash mining (= sales on the market of Megacyte). But if they can only get enough for internal production without going out 20+ jumps, they won't be selling near as much, so prices rise.
It's not that the Bis is GONE... it isn't. It's not THAT hard to find enough for a battleship or two over the course of a few days, but I suspect the fields rich enough to make large-scale mining worthwhile are FAR out in the middle of nowhere...
Hopefully the patch will help. If not, there's always recycling...

Edited by: Brom on 11/12/2003 22:07:58 Hah! I love the inflated mecacyte prices. And I'm not afraid to do 36 jumps to get it either. But yeah seriously, for the massive risk involved and the time spent hauling it, the prices are what they should be.
Things should get a lot better when CCP brings back spodumain and arkonor. Bistot will become an un-mined ore very quickly. You either do the easy stuff and mine spodumain locally, near your stations, or you do long-hauls for the big red rock candy. There wont be much use for middle-ground rocks like bistot.

The mysterious A one was Arkonor. It used t be reasonably common, all the way back to the Eve alpha test. About a month after release, they removed the megacyte ores from empire space and moved them out. Arkonor was removed. 2 weeks after that they removed the spodumain as well, leaving only bistot as a surce of megacyte. Megacyte used to sell for 4500 per unit (npc price), until CCP destroyed the ore spawns. When bistot became the only source, prices hiked to around 7500-8000 per megacyte unit, until the 0.0 pirate empires were mined out around their local stations, leaving only the far-flung long haul ore runs we currently get our supplies from. That's why prices now hover around 12-16000 per megacyte. When they bring back the spodumain, expect to see those prices halved. Arkonor wont have nearly the effect spod will because spod wil give you the ability to mine megacyte ores near stations. Arkonor will be 30+ jumps out. and heck, that hardly leaves any reason at all to mine bistot!

I agree it is costly to get Mega these days, but Battleships in my opinion were too cheap anyhow. Supply and Demand is working in the game. Yes alliances own the regions that hold the bistot, Yes it is very dangerous to mine it and it sucks to go 20 jumps one way to mine it. I prefer rare ores, instead of sitting in empire and mining the base. It does suck that you have to now buy battleships with minerals like mega and zydrine instead of ISK. The best solution is to join an alliance.

Common ppl EVE is not a mining simulation. Mining is just a small part in a huge machine, but if that part breaks the machine wont work anymore.
The problem here is that too much depands on mining. The story is like in "Tachyon: The Fringe", in which 2 corps fight for mining grounds.
I dont say, make mining a very easy thing, just dont do it so impossible. It hurts the game; trust me on this one!
EVE has so much potential and CCP has build up a good story (through POTWs) for things to happen, but it seems like they r not using this potential.
Balance the mining/manufacturing/marketing triangle and the ppl will be happy about it for a long time. This give CCP time to develop new content. However the wrong thing to do is to put new content without fixing "the part" in the machine.
Well, thats my 2 cents.

Megacytes are not hard to get, as you NPC farmers know. Anyways, I like the prices of Megacytes and BS prices to go higher. I think BS should be one of the most largest to get. When I first started playing EVE, I couldn't imagine getting a BS let alone a Cruiser, because of the cost. But, now it not so, and I feel many new to EVE think like that way too. I see almost everyone in EVE having a BS, I think atleast 50% of EVEians has one. The reason why BS prices are so cheap is because Megacytes and Zyd are so plentiful then. I believed TTI was mining in a system with Bistot and refining station and probably many other corps too. Now, as bistot fields has been exhausted near station refineries, Megacytes and Zyd prices goes up. Prices for megacytes has jumped more then 300% since I bought my first BS. I'm not complaining as this is what the real world is (ie Oil / Gas Prices, Gold, prices, etc..). If you want to know the NPC price (MSRP) of Battleships, goto EVE-i.com and look at the Ship Explorer. For example, the Apocalypse is 225mil. But, it only cost between 110 to 125mil today.

I don't know where you guys are getting your bistot, but from wehere I mine it, it's 60 jumps round trip from the only station with office space, and the belts never respawn besides micro roids.
Maybe everyone else has magic belts that always respawn full. It DOES have something to do with CCP because they control the respawn code. It has nothing to do with risk, just time value.
Why should i spend 5 hours hauling/mining in 0.0 just to get a few hundred units of bistot. When in 5 hours I can make much more mining veld.
If the belts always respawned fully, we might have reason to go mine it. Other wise it's a waste of time/effort.
Please point me in the direction of Bistot belts that are free for anyone and respawn correctly everytime without having to spend half a day mining out veld and scor in 0.0. Thanks. ---------------------------------------

Ideally you wouldn't MINE Bistot with only 2 people. Of course right now you have to, since you can't BUY it... but ideally 2 people would farm NPCs, run trade, or so on and buy the relatively small amount of Mega they need. But to do that, we need dedicated mining corps selling rare minerals on the market regularly... not markets where you can't find 500 megacyte in an entire region even at 14-15k!
In short, we need professional miners supplying large amounts of megacyte, which means full spawns of Bistot / Ark. Here's hoping the patch helps...

of course you would 'go back to 0.0' and mine bistot if it became readily available. Because like a lot of people, you think megacyte is the answer for all of your 'isk troubles'
The fact remains, if the ore re-distribution makes megacyte more plentiful, prepare for yet another market crash. Where items are sold for LESS than production cost (cost of minerals if bought at NPC prices).
It's bad enough everyother person in eve has a battleship now. If not more. There is practically NO market for cruiser equipment. And other non-battleship related items.
Battleships are too cheap.
Maybe come out with some 'new mineral' that is very rare, which is required to manufacture battleships, and keep prices stable.

Megacyte mining is getting more difficult because of the distances. Not many places even in station alliance owned systems are that close. Thus, less mining output at costant demand = higher prices. Obviously production is down now (apart from my ships on sale, not much volume on the market in Heimatar for example).
Now, when the megacyte prices went up, there was still a stockpile of ships to sell. The market reacts slowly and many people still sold are regular prices. To us, the producers it seemed like others were absorbing the cost of megacyte which is silly since you can sell the BP copies and minerals for about the same. So many cut production and sold the minerals instead and BANG, you got a fairly sudden battleship price hike.
Battleships should be expensive. Fleets should have cruiser support rather then the normal that used to be 100% battleship fleets.

Firstly,
Castor has several changes in it that should increase the use of cruisers and frigates in PvP. Altho i think these alone will not change things, it's a good start.
Secondly, bistot is availiable in plenty. The problem is that you need a medium sized corp effort to get at it reasonably efficiently. NPC farming may well be a more cost effective way of getting your rares than mining them is for some at the moment.
thirdly, I agree BS prices are too low even now when they are back to 100mio for a tier 2. The prices in itself are reasonable, the only problem is the fact that everyone flies BS's. But maybe the fact that BS's are rampant in eve can be changed without having to reduce the megacyte availiablilty. See point 1.
Lastly, the fact that bistot only respawns in baby roids, if at all, is (y)our own fault. One should not mine the existing roids out, but leave them to regrow. This would ensure that the rare ores stay availiable. But as long as this practice isnt the norm, the problem remains, and will only grow bigger.
Castor will change this, but i question wether this is the right way to change things. I think an environmental moral should be introduced to make the population self-regulate the ore distribution and exploitation.
Just increasing the availiablity of rare minerals does not add anything to the game, but only lowers the financial consequences of shiploss for the players. It actually sets back the drive towards specialisation of producing.

And also what is the point in investing 100's of mill isks..in a BP for it to take u forever to repay. Bs prices should stay high....other wise the BS loses it prestige, its Awe. Little market savvy for ya.
Its a (mostly) player driven economy. So in one sense you have to look at it in real life.
If you need megacyte/zydrine you have choices.
1. Find the Best Price nearest to you, buy and be happy.
2. Don't buy any, ***** and moan about it.
3. Farm your a$$ off and get a whole bunch through recycling.
4. Refer to #2
5. Go out and MINE it yourself. And there are places you can get it that is not 64 jumps round trip.
6. Refer to #2.
7. Befriend ppl who do mine it, and get the price knocked way down just cause they think your cool.
8. Trade other things you may not need or don't care for. I.E. Loot and other minerals.
Just a few things you can do to get megacyte/zydrine.
Oh ya, prices are SOOOOOOOOooo much cheaper for BS than they used to be WAY back when.
Can anyone say 200mil isk Megathron?

You all say BS prices are too high?
I bet you all have one though. I also bet that you wouldn't think so if you were working for one day in day out.
IMO, there are two types of Eve Players. Those that have battleships, and those that are working to get battleships.
Personally, after being destroyed twice by battleship JIP campers, in my oh-so hard to kill cruiser, I've realised that the only way to really get anywhere is to have one yourself.

Lets face it, most people are probably in this game to fight, right? Or do people really enjoy spending their free time draggin and dropping ore into a container for a video game? Why would a newbie join this game, and have to mine a month straight for a new BS that might get blown up in 5 minutes? (also why everyone is afraid to fight unless odds are stacked in their favor) Lets face it, people dont have that kind of time or patience.
Those of us that have already got BSs obviously do, but how can u attract and keep newbies with current system? ------------------------------------------------
