In an effort to offer more officially supported ways to play EVE on Mac we are now providing support for Wine in addition to Cider. DonGÇÖt worry, weGÇÖre not simply posting a long page of instructions for you to set up Wine GÇô the launcher takes care of it all. To begin with we offer this as an alternative to the current solution GÇô you simply select it in the EVE Launcher Preferences. We will continue providing Cider, the current solution, until we are satisfied with Wine providing a similar experience.
What is Wine? As stated on www.winehq.org Wine is a compatibility layer capable of running Windows application on several POSIX-compliant operating systems, such as Linux, Mac OSX and BSD. Instead of simulating internal Windows logic like a virtual machine or emulator, Wine translates Windows API calls into POSIX calls on-the-fly, eliminating the performance and memory penalties of other methods and allowing you to cleanly integrate Windows applications into your desktop.
How do I try it? Make sure your launcher is up to date (version 1016420 or later). Select Preferences... from the EVE Launcher menu and select Wine for the wrapper.
Wine options You shouldn't have to change any Wine options, and these may change at any time as we get feedback. For now, the main option is what version of Wine should be used - we provide daily builds from the Wine git repository (git://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git). If you select 'Use dev versions' you can choose any of a number of recent daily builds, or to always use the latest one. If you leave the dev versions checkbox unchecked, you can select from stable builds that will have had some testing. The WINEDEBUG field allows you to set a value for the WINEDEBUG environment variable that controls debugging output from Wine. This can be useful for tracking down issues, but should in general be left empty.
What if it doesn't work? Go back to Preferences and select Cider for the wrapper, then everything should work as it did before. Please do tell us about it, either by posting in the feedback thread or by filing a bug report. Our goal is to offer additional officially supported ways to play EVE on the Mac and we need your feedback on this to do that.

It did not work. I set it to Wine; version: Latest. It downloaded a bunch of stuff, copied stuff, and eventually settled down, and looked just like the launcher normally does. I tried to start a session. The little white triangle by the name of one of my accounts turned into a square when I clicked on it, just like normal. Nothing further happened for abut a minute. Then the square turned back to a triangle. No session of Eve started. I switched it back to Cider, and the session did start when I wanted it to. I tried Wine again, and it still failed.
In the above, whenever it failed, I would close and re-open the launcher, and try a second time. The fails were always fails.
BTW, I hope this works out, and thanks for working on it. Those using Wine seem to like it, so I am looking forward to being able to dump Cider forever and ever.

I run eve on mac os x in wine religiously, and was wondering if there is a place to report the wine-mac bugs? For currently if your probe window is windowed and not fullscreen there is significant flickering of the probe window. I also compile/build my own wine from scratch and try to report bugs to the wine crew. |

As it did not work for me, I'm wondering if I am missing something. Does telling the launcher to use Wine result in it downloading EVERYTHING needed to run Eve under Wine, including Wine, like it does for Cider? Or do I need to go to the Wine website and download other stuff as well?

As an EVE player since Trinity offered semi-native support of Linux thru Cedega, then discontinued it and unofficially helping all us WINE orphans get our EVE fix thru the many, many years of Linux gaming, I wish to thank Snorlax, CCP, and everyone involved for a GREAT news for the Mac cousins, and EVE at large.
There's hope even for us linuxers!
My tip is hatted.
And Snorlax has still a box of beer with his name paid, for when I'll meet it at Fanfest.

It is working very well for me - among the highlights:
+ single application window - no more 2 windows per account if I open the IGB + performance - at least for me on my 2014 Retina MacBook Pro the performance bump is visible + No need to install anything - seamless change to wine - restart launcher and it worked
on the down side: - settings did not migrate - but totally worth it.... |

This is great, but does anyone know I ought to copy my current profile settings to? Currently I can launch with wine and it works much better than the cider wrapper (ctrl + dragging to multi lock, for example), but I really don't want to have to reconfigure all the settings.
Default install location is /Users/[name]/Library/Application Support/EVE Online/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE
And it contains the following folders/files
IGBR Patches SharedCache c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility c_sisi_singularity c_tq_tranquility crash_history.crs history.txt
The current settings profile is located in c_tq_tranquility, but I'm not sure where to copy the folder to so that the wine wrapper based launcher can launch with them.
Any ideas? |

The launcher will install Wine and configure it to work. After that, restart the launcher and launch clients as per normal. You'll have to migrate settings, but there should be a fix in the coming week or so.

Interestingly, there's nothing there at all for me (and it wasn't working for me, see above post). Goes as far as Users/yourName/Library/Application Support/EVE Online/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/SharedCache/wineenv/drive_c/users/yourName/Local Settings/Application Data/ but then CCP and beyond is missing.

I would just like to voice my support for this direction, and a thank you to CCP for giving us this option. I tried this out last night and it worked brilliantly. I know there are still problems for some people but at least there is an open source option (submitting a bug report to the WINE community) for resolution notwithstanding support from our favorite game developer.
Thank you thank you thank you! If this still works post March release I'll be re-subbing my alts. Frankly we need to somehow tell all the mac people who have left about this new option so they can at least try it out!
My observations: Everything is faster. Everything I tried worked perfectly (although I just realized I did not try Windowed mode). I had graphics on max settings and it was much faster and more responsive than cider on medium. I wouldn't have thought this would be the case, but there it is. I'm on a Mac Pro (2013) with OS X 10.11.3.

Hope that helps some people out.
Just one fix: this part: ".../drive_c/users/rob/Local Settings/..." where it says "rob" it's your mac username, or "yourName" as Ronald says at the beggining "/Users/yourName/..." Didn't catch the second username in that string. Either way, I think the launcher needs to download and install the wine wrapper for the client in order for the subdirectories wineenv/drive_c/users/rob/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/c_tq_tranquility/PROFILE to be created.
If the launcher won't do anything with the wine wrapper, it could be an issue of your system not working properly with wine.
This is a printout of running system_profiler SPSoftwareDataType in bash (with some user details omitted) System Software Overview:
System Version: OS X 10.10.5 (14F1509) Kernel Version: Darwin 14.5.0 Boot Volume: Macintosh HD Boot Mode: Normal Secure Virtual Memory: Enabled
Hope it can help.

I just tried this on my Mac Pro 2012, Nvidia GTX 680 with latest Nvidia Web Driver, running El Capitan 10.11.3.
The new launcher works fine with Cider, but when i switch it to Wine, it copies files, then says its ready, but will not start the game. When I click to play, the play symbol next to my name turns to a square, my name turns green along with the line under it. It then just sits there for about 45 seconds, then changes back to normal as if I never clicked anything.

Did you re-start the launcher? This was listed as a known issue on the first post in this thread. I did so after the wine files were copied and it started right up. |

CCP,
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. This has bothered me for two years. I have been fighting with wine, unix command line, winetricks, and everything else under the sun to make Eve work on my Mac with some quality level approaching the Windows client.
This experience is completely superior. I have a working copy of wine, which ironically I finally got working again after weeks of tinkering just yesterday.
I clicked the button, it downloaded files, I moved my hud around, imported my overview, and now it is flying. The experience was seamless and easy.
A master stroke. You doubled the quality of the Mac experience and brought us back into your house in one shot.
I love you for this. Thank you.

Thank you so much CCP!
I no longer have to fiddle around with wine and PlayonMac etc, to get a "close to windows" eve online client feel. Just followed your instructions and away it went, amazing! Much smoother then my cider client experiences so far.
One thing I have noticed, I am playing in windowed mode, with a set resolution (1344x840), each time I reboot the client the resolution grows by a few pixels. For example if I set my windowed size to the above resolution, the next time i start that client it has moved up to 1352x855. And will continue to grow in small increments until I have to reset it manually to where I want it. I tested it with a custom resolution by resizing the window, and the same behaviour, it grows by a few pixels per restart.
Running on:
OSX 10.11.2 MacBookPro Mid 2015 Geforce GT 650m 16gb Ram
I have resolution scaling to 90%, I'm not sure if that would impact this or not. It did this same behaviour when running the windows install via wine and PlayonMac. The cider wrapper keeps the resolution the same.
Any ideas on this?
Many thanks!! <3 |

Firstly, many thanks for moving the client to wine. I'm sure it will be a huge improvement :)
Having a similar issue as many in the thread. Pressing the play button causes nothing to happen. After some time, the button goes back to a square. I also get this message from time to time:
There was an error writing a file to disk (see log for details).
If there are EVE clients running they might prevent updating files.
This could be also be caused by incorrect file permissions. Do you want me to try to fix permissions for the shared cache folder? (/Users/Madasa/Library/Application Support/EVE Online/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/SharedCache/)

CCP - would it be possible to add a auto upload of logs via loglite? Don't know if this is a good idea or not, but I would not mind sending all my logs to you each time I played if it meant the client got better. I asked this in the launcher thread, and felt it was also good to post here as this is the feedback for the wine version.

After NVIDIA purchased the Cider team and tech, it was obvious that Cider as a product was nearing its end, and honestly I expected you guys to pull the plug on Mac support as a result. I'm not sure what you had to do to sell CCP management on spending resources to distribute and support WINE directly, but thank you for not giving up on the Mac. |

Worked very seamlessly in terms of changing from cider to wine and then back. So great work on this!
Initial impressions are very good on the performance side.. I'm getting 30FSP sat in an astroid field with a mixture of medium and high settings... wait for it... on a mid 2013 MBA. TBH cider was working well for me but FPS in the same situation and settings was 20. So performance seems a lot better.
Problems are key commands and settings not copying over. Settings less of an issue but ctr-space minimises the app for me and doesn't stop the ship, which could be a huge problem. Yes I can change the shortcut, but with 4 years of playing it's not something i'd want to change. I've not checked lots of commands though. Also the cmd-c etc is an issue for long term mac users. Hard to break such old habits.
If the key commands can be solved then it's a no brainer for me. Copying the settings would be a bonus.
Great work so far CCP I'll keep my eye on how this progress's.

So I've managed to get a few sessions in doing a few different things and my impression is mixed.
Firstly, the client is much smoother in terms of responsiveness and graphics. Haven't run more than two clients at a time, but I don't EVER recall the FPS counter resting at 40-60. Even with certain effects and settings set to high. I wish I had known it worked this way sooner. I'm going to geuss that installation + me = RIP.
Now the issues.
I couldn't list them all because there are a lot of specific instances and unique situations, but the most annoying and inhibiting are actually pretty bad.
Windows dissapear. I don't know how to explain this other than they open from wherever they were minimized and not even a second later completely transparent. I know the window is there by seeing and selecting it by alt-tabbing and I can still interact with buttons (have no idea which buttons though). Happened with both the maps, fitting screen, cargo window, and all at varying settings. The worst part of that, was that even the esc menu was missing. The screen would fade color and nothing would show up, buttons and tooltip a still showed up.
the map has many graphical bugs. Either I can't see any colors, lines, shapes, or labels (usually not all at once. Sometimes the actual graphics representing stars and their connections and such, would appear on the opposite side of the screen (residing outside the map window) with labels still in the map. Still fully interacts me somehow. Both maps had a tendency to do some sort of ghosting or whatever it's called when the after image is left behind. There's a few more but I would need to see them again to get a good example.
Some of the resolution settings seem to be acting funny. I normally play on my MPB (1200x1080) and a 32" TV (don't know res off hand). Playing the largest window size on the tv works fine, but setting any client to 1200x1030(?)(the OS X one that accounts for window bar up top) causes a weird shift where the screen content gets shoved under the window bar and all the buttons are shifted slightly so that I have to click slightly below them to actually click on it. Does not seem to be an issue in full screen or fixed window (which is a neat little feature btw). It also seems that all window settings are just ever so slightly shorter than the cider sizes. There's a small sliver of my desktop visible that wasn't there before.
I'm really loving the performance increase a lot, however these bugs are making certain features and settings become 'sensitive' areas that I don't touch for fear of getting stuck in the middle of something important.
Also in addition to my earlier post about the cider version being botched, I took a quick peek at the LogLite logs (haven't submitted bug report yet) and it seems the recurring error is something about a ballpark not responding after 30 tries. |

Another command that doesn't work for me is alt-F for the fitting window.

Ok. Been running it the last two nights and this is great! 2011 Macbook Pro running 10.10.5 Game is much, much snappier, things like markets and hangers load a bit quicker, I'm getting a higher frame rate. All the new effects are there! Can resize the window anyway I like.
The only issues I've run into is cut and paste from outside to inside the client does not work for me. I also get the "There was an error writing a file to disk (see log for details)." when I log out one character and try to switch characters, but by closing the dialog it out and trying it again it always works.

This is wonderful. I will switch from PlayOnMac immediately.
One thing that would be great to get working is the SSL problems with certain sites in the in game browser. This affects zkillboard and tripwire.
You can see the error by going to these URLs in the in game browser:
Quote: Error Loading Requested URL
Unable to process the website's SSL certificate
Error Code: -207
I asked on Tweetfleet slack in the #mac-and-linux room and one of the ISDs mentioned that's because it's trying to use TLS:
Quote:that's to do with your system configuration. you need to configure your network software to only pull SSL rather than SSL or TLS pages for https calls. as igb can't handle tls
I opened a similar issue for the tripwire dev https://bitbucket.org/daimian/tripwire/issues/103/ssl-issues-using-in-game-browser-and-wine but it doesn't sound like it's really a problem with their end.
It would be great if the wine install would tweak what needs to be tweaked to get the IGB to work. Several wormhole corps use tripwire location tracking and that becomes a deal breaker for wine recruits.
I can also try out some WINEDEBUG switches if anyone knows what I could experiment with.
Thanks for the awesome work CCP! |

Configuring the EVE client to run under WINE worked without a hitch, but I'm unable to access the general settings menu (ESC) to reconfigure anything. I just turns the screen greyscale and nothing appears. The lack of this menu and the functionality of command keys is a deal killer at this point, unfortunately. That and the ability to import existing settings.
I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

For those of you that got it working, does the client change window size on each launch? (If you are running in windowed mode).
Mine keeps growing by a few pixels each time I load a client, just wondering if anyone else is having this issue, or if its some strange byproduct of having had playonmac installed, and running eve via wine with that before using CCP's new wine method.

Some tid bits.
Under Wine - screen resolution isn't very consistent.
My iMac and External monitor are both native 1920x1080. I play in window mode which means I run 1920 x 1030. Under the wine version. It seems that it starts up in like 1920 x 1038/1060 and like any other compensation of 1920x10**.
Aslo - what is the hotkey for screenshots? As this is not changeable via the shortcuts window.
edit: also when UI windows are pinned - and attached to other windows and the neocom bar, the resolution messes the attachment/stickiness of the windows up.

My iMac and External monitor are both native 1920x1080. I play in window mode which means I run 1920 x 1030. Under the wine version. It seems that it starts up in like 1920 x 1038/1060 and like any other compensation of 1920x10**.
So its happening to you swell, well it's good to know I'm not the only one, I wonder if there is a fix, or way yo lock the resolution so it doesn't slightly change each time you launch the client. |

Just realized you posted before me about the same issue.
I'm cheering for the Mac team at CCP to find a fix.
Also, any word on the Command key change?

Quote:One thing I have noticed, I am playing in windowed mode, with a set resolution (1344x840), each time I reboot the client the resolution grows by a few pixels.
Wine has always done that for me even before CCP introduced the Wine wrapper. I'm not sure why but it's kind of annoying as I keep comms on the side next to the client :P |

Got a client booting now, but I can't change the resolution - there's only one option, and it spans across both my monitors, which is not at all what I want.

I decided to load Captain's Quarters while running Project Discovery, to which I am hopelessly addicted. Invariably, after perhaps ten to fifteen minutes of normal function, Project Discovery will become unable to load slides, and LogLite will fill up with over 300 messages per minute, all of them saying, "[f]ailed to set RenderTarget to slot 0." It is occasionally interspersed with the error, "[f]failed to get a valid ballpark in time after trying 30 times." (CQ has a ballpark?! Where?! ) After a couple of minutes of this, the client becomes unresponsive, and I have to force quit to terminate it. Then, invariably, I get the message that "There was an error writing a file to disk."
I have worked around this by loading the hangar instead.
(Note: I do not have to be running Project Discovery to get the RenderTarget error. That is merely what I was doing when I noticed it.) |

I cleared my log because it was pinwheeling. It had hundreds of thousands of lines! That will make it easier to isolate the problem and bug report it.
Look for one soon. I am on 10.11.3, the latest version of OS X. |

Now that its working for me, Here are some issues Ive found.
Command Q does not quit the game. Instead, it tries to quit XQuartz. Control Q does nothing.
In the market interface, the price history plot has no scale values shown.
I'm using a MacBook Pro, with a trackpad. When I do a two finger scroll on my hangar window, the window jumps to the contents of the ship hangar, or the contents of a station container. To see this, put many items in your hangar, so a scroll is needed to navigate them all.

Is there an upper limit on the attachment size for a support ticket? I ask because when the bug I'm reporting logs more than 5 errors per second, and I play for 20 minutes to wait for a freeze, it becomes unwieldy. It is over 27MB in size.
I have narrowed it down to three issues, for which there will be two tickets filed as soon as I sort out the logs. I may simply start over tomorrow or the next day and not wait so long!):
1) CQ in windowed mode crashes either before it loads or as soon as I move the camera;
2) Project Discovery's slide display pane goes black as soon as I try to use command-shift-4 to take a screenshot of the slide;
2) CQ in full screen mode runs smoothly, but crashes as soon as I use command-shift-4 to take a partial screenshot, but at least I get the screen shot. |

Wine treats the command key as the "alt" key. So normally hot keys don't work.
Just think and try to train yourself for now that EVE is Native Windows and only window hotkey work.

For uploading files to CCPs bug report - just compress the file first. Had to do that the other day. If you don't know how to compress the file - right-click and compress.

Any suggestions on how I can get my settings back? |

Edited: Never mind, I figured it out.
I copied everything from (because the date/time stamps were from February):
~/Library/Application\ Support/EVE\ Online/p_drive/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/CCP/EVE/c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility/settings
to:
~/Library/Application\ Support/EVE\ Online/p_drive/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/CCP/EVE/c_tq_tranquility/settings_Default
NOT TO (the location that makes more sense):
~/Library/Application\ Support/EVE\ Online/p_drive/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/CCP/EVE/c_tq_tranquility/settings_EVE_Online
The Wine version puts a folder in you documents folder (I think) but on like page two of this thread someone provides the location for your settings.

Since switching to the wine wrapper I've noticed that sometimes when warping/jumping into a system, the video that is displayed on the billboards will play in full screen. I haven't been able to determine the trigger for this, but it seems to occur when commencing warp, or alt+clicking in space. I have found no way to remove it without restarting the client.
See the following to get an idea of what I'm talking about, http://imgur.com/a/NGf94
And here is the screenshots of the billboards displaying the same images, http://imgur.com/a/wSK2Z
I'm playing on a 2012 macbook pro using the wine wrapper.
Seems someone else on page 4 is having this issue as well.
Any advice on a workaround/fix would be greatly appreciated. |

I've filed a bug report showing the screenshots as well. I posted more info about my system in the report, as well. Hopefully it'll just be a conflict or something simple. |

Able to launch reliably now, but screen resolutions are all over the place. By default I can only select 4k something x 1k something (both monitors), but by switching back and forth between fullscreen and windowed I can get other options to show up. Sometimes they work, usually they minimize the EVE window into the dock, where it can't be re-opened. And unfortunately at no point am I able to get my full resolution on only my main monitor in windowed mode, which is how I (and I'd imagine most people with multiple monitors) play.

Not sure if this is a problem but it seems odd. When I run "shared cache settings" under "settings", it finds about 2500 extra files, which it then deletes. Then when I restart the launcher it downloads about 2500 files. The client does start immediately after the files are deleted (without restarting the launcher) and seems to work fine. Yet, once I close the launcher and restart it, it downloads those 2500 files again.

Then when I restart the launcher it downloads about 2500 files. The client does start immediately after the files are deleted (without restarting the launcher) and seems to work fine. Yet, once I close the launcher and restart it, it downloads those 2500 files again. Screen cap of log files: log 1log 2 Thanks for reporting this. Found a few screen resolution glitches so far.
Every time I start a client it always starts the client one of my three screens at whatever the resolution I had that profile at. The problem with this is that while they are in windowed mode they do not have the top menu bar to move the client to a different spot. If i hit escape and try to change the resolution while in windowed mode I find a only 3 resolutions and their a bit wonky.
The work around i found was to go to fixed screen to move the client to my main screen.
Then select full screen and and select a resolution. By selecting full screen I am able to see all the available resolutions like normal again.
After hitting apply with an appropriate resolution I go back and select windowed mode, and viola all the normal resolutions are back.
After hitting apply I am able to see the top menu bar finally and can move the client like normal/resize.
I am having to do this for every client I open up every time.
I will send you a evemail with my logs, screencaptures and so forth.
Thanks Snorlax! |

If you have not noticed - wine for me allows me to resize my windows from the edge. I was doing this from the esc > graphic settings, but they never stayed. So now I just resize the window like I would with any other windowed application.

Eve is much better under wine. Thank you for this update. It means a lot.
A feature request for wine support on Mac: Every time I start the launcher, it downloads a new version of wine --devel. It's spending a considerable amount of my Comcast data allotment. It would be nice to have a toggle switch that would allow me to reject updates to wine except on a daily, every other day, or as wanted basis.
I understand why Eve updates are essential in real time, as we all need to be on the same version, but wine updates could be throttled or ignored entirely unless some critical update is present that fixes a bug.
TL;DR: let me set the launcher to "notify me about wine updates available, and allow me to decide to reject or accept them."
Thanks again CCP_Snorlax!!!

The Wine versions will stabilize soon. It shouldn't be downloading every time, though, unless maybe if you have selected latest dev builds. Try unchecking 'dev builds' for the Wine wrapper. You can also select a specific build, rather than latest, and it will stick to that.
The current version spends a fair amount of time verifying the files every time, though - that is already addressed in the latest dev version of the launcher that I will deploy next week.

I have no issues with EVE audio through my BOSE which hooks up via USB.
From memory you have to pick your audio out source before you start EVE. If you hold alt/option - click the audio icon - you can pick the out source.

So, even stranger behaviour - No sound when I have one client open, but when I open a second account, the sound starts up. Works fine until I close one of the accounts and then it goes dead again.

I am unable to start client via wine wrapper at all. Every times I start launcher it copies wine files. Yesterday when I started launcher after a week of not using it and I tried to start client, MacOSX told me I need X11 server to start explorer.exe and I should go and download it. So I did - I downloaded X11 from http://www.xquartz.org, installed it but to no effect. I will raise a bug soon, I just need to find 3 minutes to get to these damn launcher logfiles... ;)

The wine client seems to run a lot smoother than the regular one, I might even upgrade my graphics settings from full-low to some-medium!
However, a few little bugs I've noticed:
1) Sometimes, the launcher will open Xquartz but not open the EVE client. Clicking the 'play' button again will launch the client properly.
2) In windowed mode, the top bar (to move/close/minimize the window) sometimes does not appear, instead a white bar appears at the bottom which will allow me to move the window. Click on the EVE menu then reacts as if I were clicking on the 'close' button which should be in roughly the same location. Switch to 'fixed window mode' and back fixes this.
3) Tripwire (tripwire.eve-apps.com) does not load properly in the in game browser. It does load properly on the regular client (old and new launcher) but then you have to deal with all the IGB crashing bugs. I'm not sure if this is a tripwire bug or a problem with the client.
4) Jumping gates/wormholes is a lot faster for the wine client, but there still is a long delay before a system fully loads (about 20-30 seconds as opposed to nearly a minute on the regular client.) |

Current status:
Wine runs, and thanks to being able to resize window via dragging bottom right corner, is usable. (In-game resolution selection continues to be v buggy.)
Performance/looks are moderately better than Cider, but not by much. (This is more a compliment of the current Cider build than a dis on the Wine build.)
In-game sound does not play through USB headset, which means I can't use it for any sort of fleet ops.

Question? Do you change the output for the audio before or after starting EVE. I knew the Cider version, if you changed after starting EVE it didn't work.

Yea, you gotta plug in the USB headset before you load the launcher. It works fine after that, but like the Cider of a year ago hot swapping USB headsets doesn't work (yet?). |

Hi Snorlax,
works perfect on MacBook pro 2015.
Some tasks seems to work a bit faster like warping or changing screen when you ere docking or changing to pi.
There is only one thing that nerves a bit: After using a gate the both windows "Overview" and "Selected Item" needs longer than before to display the new contents. It was already slow on Cider, but in Wine its sometimes slower than before. I've made a jurney through New Eden with 48 jumps and sometimes it needs up to 4 seconds until this windows are showing the contents. This feels like some hours when you are landing into a gate camp.
But all other funtions are fine. Good job.

Still having the strange issue with billboard video playing in full screen when I jump into systems that have a billboard on gate, but its much more playable than using cider, and I appreciate that.
I logged in no less than 12 hours ago, WINE wrapper worked fine, but now the latest WINE version results in the client not starting at all. The launcher shows a stop symbol and the bar goes green as if the client is launching, but then it goes back to a state of no client running.
MacBook Pro 2012, Directx 9 Using OS X 10.10.5 WINE latest Launcher version 1021473 (according to About EVE Launcher)
Clients launch fine with cider.
If I switch back to WINE version 1.8.1-test, the same issue exists.
I also posted this in the update to the WINE wrapper thread.
I can send through the logs in an evemail in full.

WINE had been working, but during one of the recent updates it quit. Clicking play now just turns the bar green for a while, then it goes back to blue. This is using the "latest" version option on two different MacPro systems I have, one with Nvidia GTX 680, and other with ATI Radeon 5870, both running El Capitan 10.11.4.
Hopefully the after-easter patch will help things.
Until then, I'm back to using Cider.
Also... Thanks so much CCP Snorlax for helping us Mac users !

Earlier this week (Tuesday?) the Mac launcher just stopped working on my late-2009 iMac (OS 10.10.5, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5, 12GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB). Even before then, every launch brought a renewed file download. Switching to 1.8.1-test got it working again and it seems to be quite stable now, and no longer downloads new files with each launch. |

The dev versions are built automatically from 3 different repos, only one of which has my changes. If you have the dev versions enabled, with Latest selected, you will be somewhat randomly jumping between the CCP fork of Wine (which has the keyboard mapping fixed) or the original Wine repo from either the development or the stable branch. The ability to select from these dev builds is primarily to enable us to test different versions.

Overall, the game 'feels' smoother and less laggy using the wine client.
Switch to wine went easy (but was hard to find), maybe it should be under the launcher settings?
However, I have two problems / bugs: - Game crashes when I jump from gate to gate in high-sec. This has also been the case in cider - My tripwire through the IGB does not work. I am in contact with the tripwire developer, here's a link to the issue: https://bitbucket.org/daimian/tripwire/issues/111/igb-shows-only-text-after-upgrading-to
The latter is kind of a pain... because it makes wormhole life very miserable and actually makes me consider going back to cider. |

I don't think that fix made it into the latest patch (2016-04-05) as the windows are still growing/resizing each time you launch a new client. |

Had a much better experience with the game last night. selected the wine wrapper as detailed in the OP and followed the instructions to the letter, I did not have a single IGB crash, not a single game freeze.
Sitting in station and flying in normal space, I get a steady 60FPS, when entering mission space, it drops to circa 40 FPS.Graphic settings are maxed out with no AA.
my only issue now seems to be the "Connection Lost, the Socket was closed" message I get. Tried re-setting my modem & router as mentioned in another thread I found which worked ok for a bit, but then I got the message again. definitely not as bad as the night before, but the problem still remains.

If you are not using an Apple Airport Extreme I would like to recommend them (since you are clearly a Mac person). I suffered from unreliable connections and devices for years with d-link, linksys, etc. before I finally gave up and figured I'd try the Apple device if only so I wouldn't have to re-boot the thing once (or more) a day. The difference was night and day. It only goes down when there is a power outage, I never get disconnected at random, and all my network access seems faster.
That said, if your provider has upstream problems there isn't much you can do but complain. I may be able to walk you through some network tests to help isolate the problem if you feel that would help you. |

Didn't look too much into it, so not sure if it's Wine or the Mac client in general, but Citadel graphics on SiSi are pretty glitchy. Shadows rendering very poorly and flickering all over the place.

My bookmarks are sorted wrong / different to the Cider/Windows sorting.
That is really annoying when living in a wormhole and trying to have bookmarking schemes...
The game also crashes when jumping gates in high-sec. I had the same issue in Cider, but wine is no improvement there either.
With the SSL remaining a nasty issue that doesn't allow tripwire, I am rolling back to cider now. |

I'm working on the SSL issue, hope to have to resolved soon.
I'd love to see logs from crashes when jumping gates. If you run with LogLite (enable 'Run clients with logging' in launcher settings), then save the log and attach it to a bug report. Put my name in the title or send me the report id so I get it right away.

EVE unplayable right now.
Updated my system (MacPro2013) to 10.11.4, and it started wigging out. (Prior to the update, I was getting the frequent crashes others have reported).
Under Cider, which had been the default setup, no graphics would load, I'd only get overlay screens. So I found this thread, told the launcher to download all files to improve performance, and switch to Wine.
Wine looks, nicer, but one fatal flaw. No overlays will work. Hit the button for them, and you see them appear to zoom to minimize. I've tried with and without DX9, and multiple Wine versions. Same problem.
Also, when it was in fullscreen on my two-monitor system, the billboard that you see when you are docked would take up the whole screen. Windowed mode got rid of that.

external file link added Report is up I think I know what-¦s going on - Wine is underestimating available video memory. For now, you could try disabling post-processing. It's a bit bit tricky when there's nothing visible on screen, though. If the client works under Cider you could try switching back, changing settings, then going to Wine again.
I should be able to address this in Wine sometime next week.

After you've changed this in Cider you need to copy your settings again. In Preferences in the launcher is a big button labeled 'Copy client settings from Cider to Wine'. Press that after switching back to Wine.
Again, I'm hoping to sort this out next week - this convoluted process is just a temporary workaround.

I've submitted a report.
The memory issue sounds like a probably cause, as what I'm seeing is graphics that fail to load when changing environments (either docking or undocking) or at highest settings overlays don't load.

That helped with me as well, but I'm still seeing sporadic instances of the captain's quarters being completely black, or only partially loading, and instances where some popup overlays won't load.

Retina Windowed mode resolutions issue:
Wine works fantastic in fullscreen in 2880x1800, but unfortunately I am used to play in windowed mode. On Cider this is set at 2560x1600 which nicely takes up the middle of the screen.
Getting this setup is not possible under Wine. If you try windowed mode it reverts to a very low resolution of 1280x800 or even lower if resized. Setting anything higher, the screen is off screen. I am fairly certain the way the retina display works under OS X is the culprit.
Best regards,

I believe the last one has been fixed - don't know if I could consider restarting the launcher after changing to wine or changing version of wine would be considered a issue. Guess it depends on the player.

Haven't filled a bug report yet, but 'm having the same problem occasionally. The 'fix' I found was to select something out of game (in windowed mode) and then click back in game back and forth a few times. Sometimes this works sometimes you have to change camera modes to get it to work. |

Hiya,
First of all, having wine support is amazing! Cider has been gradually doing a worse and worse job of actually performing will, with random FPS drops and taking an ungodly amount of time when undocking, which have all been fixed for me now.
Secondly, I have noticed that "Hide Wine" does not have a shortcut associated with it. Is this a global issue or is this something related to my personal setup? I have currently fixed this issue by adding a custom shortcut in my system preferences.
Lastly, is there a way for me to manually input the window resolution I want? My secondary monitors are only 21" while my iMac is a 27", and I can only choose from resulotions that 'fit' my 27".
With regards, Kevin |

I'm afraid it's not letting me resize. It's showing me the little resize window curser but nothing happens when I drag. OK, that's something I haven't seen. Guess I'll need to do some testing with multiple monitors. Reporting in with an update: I've been able to resize, but apparently I can only resize the window if I try to resize it in the title bar. Previously I was trying to resize from the bottom-right corner and from the bottom of the window.
A few other things I have noticed (apologies if they've been reported before, couldn't find a list of known issues other than the 4 bullet points in this topic): - When tabbing out and in of EVE, it often thinks I have ctrl pressed down. Need to hit ctrl on the keyboard myself to reset the down state of the ctrl key - I can't type any characters that require the alt-key modifier such as \ (alt + shift + :) or Gé¼ (alt + $). I am using an azerty keyboard layout - Up close all textures are pixelated: https://i.imgur.com/OQky4g9.jpg
- When zooming my camera in or out while in space the "parallax seems to break" as in: The stations/planets/background textures will keep zooming in but not zoom out. I can reset this by looking at an object. - I keep getting random "Socket Closed" errors today when in space (never when docked), unsure if it's because of patch or because of wine since I switched yesterday.
If there is any way I can help you pin down more issues or provide you with in-depth information about my environment, please let me know how master Snorlax o7 |

I have to quit both clients and restart them to fix it. Just reopening one doesn't work. |

Working with it more today.. it's a disaster. What's the worst is the map. Can only get the map to load 25% of the time.
It really seems that it's overall memory issues.. I checked the memory usage while Wine/EVE was running, and it wasn't high at all, barely over 1G.. is it simply not getting enough memory allocated? Or is it a graphics memory issue? Try the following, to ensure the Wine environment is properly set up:
Open the shared cache folder (View menu, Reveal in Finder, Shared Cache) and delete the wine and wineenv folders. Note that if you delete the wineenv folder you will lose all settings. If you want to maintain client settings you can delete everything from within wineenv except drive_c/users.
It seems that updating Wine versions is not a 100% reliable - I'm working on improving this in the launcher.

I too get this issue. I have found that multiple presses of the Command / Option or Control key frees up the keyboard again.
Usually the Command key suffices but in particularly difficult times all three need to be pressed. |

That and the ability to import existing settings. I seemed to be having the same issue. Windows (including the Esc -> settings window) weren't properly stacking and windows disappeared upon trying to open/close things (i.e. they were there since I could see tooltips but the windows themselves were invisible). This was only an issue when I was out in space, not in the character selection screen. My character normally was logged out in a POS and I found when I docked/undocked the in-space window issues were fixed (one time I had to dock/undock twice). Please file a bug report in game right after this happens, I need to see logs. Even better if you have full logs from LogLite - attach to the bug report. Done & done. I switched to Wine in launcher prefs, the launcher downloaded wine, but then every time I try to launch eve, wine starts up and then crashes tryng to execute some xxxexe.exe thing (I don't remember the name). After four tries, I'm going back to cider. The damn client may be crashing regularly, but at least I get a few minutes in the game.
If this keeps up, though, I guess I'll have to cancel my four accounts. :-( |

I have been using EVE Online on my i-Mac 17" - 2013, 2011 and 2012 MacBook Pro 15" and 2015 MacBook Pro 15" Retina. Ever since the ability was added use WINE through the new Launcher, it has been much better.
Dragging to re-size windows, running 2 accounts at the same time, no lockups when 1 of the 2 running accounts were running - these don't happen anymore.
There was one time, where I experience some corruption, but to remove all the variables, I blew out all the EVE files, in the library folder and everywhere else, to insure a clean install. This is often key, not just in EVE but in many apps. I had MS Office for Mac 2016 since the early betas last year, and wiping out all of it, and then a fresh install as cured any ills I have had with that product.
So when it doubt, clean it all out - and re-download the whole thing...its worth the time.
I use my iMac 2013 with 10.11.5 and always keep the OS up to date. Same with my 2015 MacBook Pro 15" w/Retina. Minimal problems, except high heat and fan speeds on the MB Pro.
I occasionally have a failure (once every 10-15 hours of play time - not all at once) but only when running dual accounts at same time.
Nice work CCP and keep it up.

So far I'm finding the Wine port to be stable, but it is extremely slow to launch the client. Usually takes two minutes before it starts kicking the GPU into the graphics mode it expects to run in. While the Cider client was slow as well, this is much worse. I can't tell if it is even launching for over two minutes. Running on a 2010 iMac 27" with upgraded GPU (Radeon 6970M 1GB), 2.98GHz i7 with 8GB. |

For future reference, the solution is to grab the latest launcher from https://community.eveonline.com/support/download/
After getting the new launcher, the settings for wine etc are accessed by going to the mac menu bar (usually at the top of the screen), click EVE launcher, select "Preferences....". HTH. |

been running WINE for some time now. With Cider I was getting frequent freezes and lockups with my IMac Retina, running WINE fixed that.
The only thing I have to figure out is how to get the system to automatically accept the Wine Server. At the moment just after the character selection, the screen clears and shows me Wine wants to accept connection Allow or Deny -- I accept Allow and then have to select the WINE server from the dock to start
Its not a big issue, but one I would like to resolve., |

I was really hoping for the improved performance that others have been seeing running under WINE, but unfortunately for me it's just the opposite. WINE did clear up the problem of lagging for up to a minute after jumping through gates (which I haven't seen in Cider lately either), but in every other way the performance is far worse. Even with minimal graphics settings the client stutters and lags constantly and is pretty much unplayable for anything but station spinning. Maybe my 2007 iMac (2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro with a whopping 256 MB of video RAM) is getting too long in the tooth. It just seems strange that most seem to see a speed increase and I see a major performance hit. Could there be some setting that needs to be adjusted due to the low amount of video memory? |

With the age of your computer, I you won't see much. your running a core 2 duo (used to sell those babies). 64bit processor that is crippled by the OS to run 32 bit.
Most people who are seeing improvements are seeing them on 64bit processors (meaning the OS can do more), plus WINE has more room to breath. Now EVE is 32bit, but I have 4 64bit processors, and you have 2 32(64 bit cripples)...
So in all understanding. . . your computer is long in the tooth. I hope you can afford a new one.

I found the new Launcher option to use WINE worked brilliantly. I was using WINE via the shell before since the CIDER version has always been problematic for me, lock ups, and when I compared it recently to my WINE version I didn't like the CIDER look. My only complaint I had before was the market place, it looked like I was missing a font or two so the graph was missing some information.
Since using the new Launcher with WINE built in, it has fixed the market place, made it much easier to keep up to date and hasn't failed or even locked up once yet.. (I use the fixed window option that thankfully was still available which removed the only problem I knew of when switching back into the game).
I'm delighted with it.. Thank you CCP Devs.

In general, I agree that WINE support has made for a much smoother experience. But there is still one strange behaviour I consistently get with opening a new contract. It takes a long time. Like a minute or two long to create a contract when I select some items and choose 'Create Contract' from the right-click menu. But this delay only seems to happen for the first one. If I create a second contract it works near instant as usual.
Anyone else seeing this behaviour?

Wine looks fine, but there are problems in a windowed environment that forced me to switch back so I can use multiple clients.
The problems are with every button on the screen. The location of where they are activated seem to be off by a half-inch or so on the screen. I'm assuming that this is related to the window bar, but I'm not exactly sure.
I've also not been able to get multiple clients to run at the same time either, but I'll need to try that again another day. |

I have been using WINE since i first learned about it. I only run windowed mode, lowest graphic settings. The only thing i have issues with is every once in awhile you go to click and the mouse drags, the camera pans slowly. it seems this has something with the control/option/alt/command key seeming to become sticky. focusing on a different client/application seems to fix it most times, or changing the camera.
If there was only a way to log everything and have it send the logs at the push of a button, vs trying to file bug reports overtime.

Spent 20 minutes typing up my experience. Pressed "Post", nothing got posted, back button didn't show all I wrote. So here's the super short version:
I too had v.2.2.999545 launcher. - had to read 12 pages to see the solution (yes i googled, but didn't want to invest huge amounts of time until i had confirmation - Thanks Bro!!) - ran old launcher once to get latest updates. installed new launcher, which loaded 82 MB more data then automatically installed yet a newer launcher which loaded another 50 MB of data - ran Eve (left launcher on Cider for first run) - lost all settings, bookmarks, overview and chat channels - switched to Wine, restarted launcher, ran Eve - seems a little better, more Mac compliant (app switcher shows other apps when in Eve).
Op: Can you edit your 1st post and add the solution for those with launcher v.2.2.999545. Include a warning about losing settings, bookmarks, overview and chat channels. Thanks.
Regards, Trisk
P.S. Now I know to copy my reply to clipboard before pressing "POST". Here's hoping it works this time. |

In addition to the above, I took the plunge and tried wine. At the initial stage, it was all good and I can feel that it was light to the resources and the heat was down. It was pretty nice. However, it broke down specifically my mouse did not work and can't correctly press the UI in the game. Hence, I had to go back to Cider.
But I like wine. I hope it gets fixed soon.
I am running a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) with the following specs:
2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 intel Iris 1536 MB
Thank you, and looking forward to a more stable wine.

I seem to be the odd one out here even as far as Mac users goes. At least not seen anyone else comment that is using a Mini. So figure I should toss out my two bits on what I'm seeing with Wine. (and I mean other than the faint vapor trails from drinking it)
MAC Mini (Mid 2011) 2.5Ghz Intel Core i5 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256 MB
Had to swear at it a few times and kill the new launcher before it finally took over from the old one and stopped hanging up. Had to play with it a bit before figured out how to get it to transfer settings then wanted to facepalm as its kinda obvious when you do figure it out. (delete the "default" settings when you do transfer so that it now defaults to what you transferred).
First run I had a couple instances where things paused while Wine data was loaded but was not long and has not occurred since. (I did not have any form of Wine loaded previous). Run in Windowed mode normally and tho I did notice my "notifications" button has drifted a bit and seems a few previously unpinned windows somehow became pinned, I have not noticed the window size to alter between sessions. Tho I honestly did not look to verify the resolution numbers so it might have grown slightly.
Only real item of notice came after about 90 minutes online with lots of jumps and docking transitions. And that that there started to be a screen shear during transition. By this I mean I started getting what appears to be a brief (half a second to 2 seconds) period during transition where screen used to go black and now is a fairly colorful burst of cubic noise. Tried to grab a screenshot but so far not caught it. Will keep trying tho.
Definitely seem to be able to run higher better graphics levels without the lag it used to cause so overall I'm a much happier MAC than I was just a week ago. |

How does one capture screenshots under Wine? With Cider I used the extended-keyboard key, "Print Screen" (located above the Insert, Delete, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down sextet). Since upgrading to Wine, no new png files show up on my disk searches which tells me that my screenshots are no longer getting captured. |

I can't undock until this gets fixed.
Do I have to go back to Cider? If so, for how long will that be supported. Is that going to be discontinued on June 30?

Rather than spamming this thread with "I'm leaving, byeeeeee" posts, it would be more helpful if you would give example of what exactly you are trying to do, how and which bit does not work. This way you may get some reasonable response. Try to describe your problem in more details.
EDIT: Just checked and for my wine setup, both command and control work same way. If neither if these works for you, you must be doing something wrong. Therefore - examples please. |

I had similar experience as some other users setting up the new wine wrapper and am happy with the switch over and improvements to graphic quality.
A couple of minor things bug me, first when the Eve game window first opens (windowed mode) it's not quite at 0,0, and I have to drag it a few pixels over to the edge. I'm guessing a quick line of script could be inserted to get it to open at 0,0 or I could wright it myself...
Other thing I have noticed is the count stepper in the industry window has buggy functionality, in that I can only manualy use it with the up and down arrows, and the mouse wheel no longer automaticaly dose this and when I move my mouse pointer off the steppers it seems to wind back any progress if i wiggle my mouse around to much. [I'll file a bug report...]. |

I did describe the problem--the Command-Click no longer works. I tried the Control-Click and that doesn't work. I tried a number of other combinations, and nothing did what the old Command-Click used to do. That means I can't select groups of any kind and access the little menus that Command-Click used to bring up.
I switched back to Cider and everything worked fine.
But if Cider is what is being discontinued on June 30, I have no idea what to do next. |

I have a 2011 iMac. With cider and the osx version, it used to get very very hot, occasional crashes. With wine, it's probably half as hot, runs much smoother with all high settings and no crashes. To be perfectly honest, it's not a straight forward process to get wine, macports etc. properly installed if you're not too familiar with the console; and the instructions are sometimes vague, but once it's setup, it's absolutely worth it.

Finally! So the PC-right-click functionality no longer works? You're using Macbook or standalone Mac? On Macbook double tap (as in 2 fingers on touchpad) does that. With Mac and standard Mac mouse, probably someone can advise what is the correct way to do it (I asm using MBA).

Hi guys. I have been running Eve via Wine on my mac for a couple of years now. I usually run the latest version of wine-devel (currently 1.9.12). So I have a process to keep it up to date and some other windows applications installed that I run.
I've tried the newest Mac launcher and once I worked out the settings issues everything seems to work well. But, is it possible to have the new Mac launcher run Eve via my already installed version of wine? Or does it only work with the launchers pre-packaged versions of wine? Maybe some way to point the launcher (via a config file) at my own version of wine?

Hello again, I can report the following things:
- The bookmarks appear in a different order than to Cider / Windows EVE versions.
See http://i.imgur.com/KEHff0a.png
The # should be before . and it would be tremendous if we could make this improvement happen!
- I cannot paste signatures into Tripwire. It works under Cider but not Wine. See Dev post here: https://bitbucket.org/daimian/tripwire/issues/126/cant-copy-paste-signatures-into-tripwire#comment-None
This again seems like a deal breaker bug for folks that live in w-space and relay on mappers like tripwire.
- Finally, referring to the quoted posts, I can report that after several hours of high-sec jumping I have not experienced any crashes.

However, I cannot get the CTRL- ALT- CMD-keys running. I can't even cmd-Tab out of eve.
Did I miss some setting or option? Is there a workaround?

Hmm, cmd-click works here. But I have a german keyboard. Maybe that's why.
What I also found: When remapping shortcuts on cider the "<>"-key maps correctly while on wine the same key maps to "+¦". Looks like we have some sort of Babylon going on here?

WINE still doesn't work for me. Started the launcher, downloaded the last patch (and there was a launcher update), clicked the go button, and it failed to load. Eventually wine spits out "the program exefile.exe has encountered a serious error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." There was a button in the WINE wrapper window that is supposed to "show details" but when it didn't do anything after 5 minutes, I quit WINE, which generated an "application (WINE) crashed" line in loglite. So I quit the launcher and restarted it. Same problem.
When WINE launches, the following lines appear in loglite:
info2016-06-19T11:23:078C:\tq\bin\exefile.exeiMacs-iMacsvcviewStateService viewState required 0.000 seconds to startup error2016-06-19T11:23:0711063/Applications/EVE Launcher.app/Contents/MacOS/evelauncheriMacs-iMac.localevelauncherwine"err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {5a508685-a254-4fba-9b82-9a24b00306af} not registered" error2016-06-19T11:23:0711063/Applications/EVE Launcher.app/Contents/MacOS/evelauncheriMacs-iMac.localevelauncherwine"err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {5a508685-a254-4fba-9b82-9a24b00306af} could be created for context 0x1" error2016-06-19T11:23:0711063/Applications/EVE Launcher.app/Contents/MacOS/evelauncheriMacs-iMac.localevelauncherwine"err:ole:CoInitializeEx Attempt to change threading model of this apartment from multi-threaded to apartment threaded"
So now what? Cider at least lets me get into the game, but I would like to get WINE working if possible. |

I've noticed (using wine, windowed mode, Yosemite), that when I'm using mouse clicks to give focus to the Netflix I'm watching and back to the EVE client - that sometimes the EVE client does not get full focus (mouse clicks fail to work). When that happens, if I command-tab away from the EVE client and then back, full focus is restored and mouse clicks start working in the client again.
Is this a known issue? If not - can you reproduce or do you need logs? |

First of all let me thanks CCP for supporting Wine on Mac.
For the last 3-4 years I have been preaching to all my fellow Mac Eve players to forget about the Mac client and use Wine instead because of the better experience.
When the Wine support was launched I download the Eve Mac client launcher again and tried and although it worked ok, it was still slower and with lower visual quality than my current Wine setup (never understood why since the graphics parameters in the settings were the same).
However in this latest version of the Launcher you can actually select the Wine version and I selected the 1.9.10 (been using the 1.9.7 in my installation) and I got the game in the same quality!!!!
Thanks a lot for that. Looking forward for the Wine DX11 support and see for the first time the new POS setup effect (preferably before the POSes removal from the game). |

I have this issue all the time. More so on my main than my alt. Have to click a different window. Something to do with wine I would assume.

i first heard about the potential change from Cider to Wine at FanFest this year. At the time, I didn't know what that meant. It sounded Ok, but I couldn't picture the difference. Fast forward to today ...
The change to wine has been a significant improvement to my gaming experience on the Mac. Eventually, I'll upgrade my laptop, but this has really been a positive experience. I was starting to have performance issues with cider, and I don't have the same issues with wine. I didn't know that my visual experience was crappy until I played on a better Alienware machine. Now with wine, I'm much closer to my experience on the PC.
I'm on a 2012 MBP running the latest OS X. I have not run into the same issues that others have mentioned. i followed the directions to enable wine, and everything worked well.

With my batteries fully charged I'm now investigating the sticky control key issue. Its not just the control key. The shift key sticks too. It happens to me every time I loot the can in the shipyard site (the Serpentis event site). 100% reproducible. I select the can, click the open icon, click the loot button. Tapping shift will fix it.

Yes, we do, but it may not be on a system exactly like yours, or with the same settings as you have.
Please give us more details by filing a bug report and we will investigate.

I know the character customization defaults to low/medium grade settings on the mac no matter what. probably driver issues. when DX 11 finally shows up all the way. we might get lucky
speaking of DX 11. how is that coming Snorlax?

This most likely has been asked and answered, but...15 pages..... Every time I start up eve I get asked if I want to allow wineserver to connect. How do I stop those requests?
In System Preferences, Security and Privacy, Firewall, I have wineserver listed as "allow incoming connections". What else is needed?
Oh, And CCP Snorlax, are we going to get command-click mapped to secondary click? I tend to fumble finger the double-tap sufficiently often that having command-click mapped to secondary click would be quite helpful.

I haven't reported it, but I have seen this as well. For me the message pops up when my second client launches. Once or twice I've pressed Deny to see what would happen and didn't notice any problems with that client.

I run Windows 10 in Parallels on this Mac, for access to things like EveMon and EVE-IPH. In theory, that shouldn't cause problems with either Cider or Wine, especially when I'm not actually running Windows, but I dunno, maybe it does with Wine. |

I've noticed this intermittently when running on my laptop, but haven't yet seen a reliable repro, making it hard to track down. When this has happened, resizing the window has resolved the issue. I know this isn't ideal, but it's a workaround at least. I will keep an eye on this issue and see if I can fix it. If anyone runs into this and finds a reliable repro case I'd be very interested to hear about it.
I finally played around with Wine and was able to get this fixed with a workaround.
Going back a bit, I have a Mac Mini and a non-Apple monitor. The current Cider client doesn't fit to my screen. Everything works fine, but the EVE time and notifications don't show up on my screen. With Wine, it's the reverse. It is bottom justified, so the Eve menu box and the top of the character photo is covered up by the menu bar on the window.
In the Window menu on Wine, I selected "Zoom" which resized my screen and readjusted the layout. Sometimes it takes a few Zooms, but other times, the screen is top justified and everything works as expected.
If anything, I'm guessing the non Apple monitor is the cause of this problem.
Now that that's working OK-ish, the issue I have now is with the zoomed windows. The windows want to stick to the top of the screen. If I try to move them around, they just bounce back to the top of the screen.

If your in window mode you should be able to grab a corner and resize with wine version.

I had a problem several months ago (crashing and locking up) but found that by switching to Wine it cured that completely. At first I had a problem of it always asking to allow Wine and then opening it from the dock but on the next update, that suddenly disappeared. As soon as I selected my char I was in Eve.
However, with the Tuesday 19 th update the problem is back.
I am on a late 2015 Imac with Retina
I launch Eve and the char selections screen comes up and I choose my character then the screen defaults to my desktop with a box WINE is attmepting to connect allow or deny
I choose allow and then have to select the wine (screen image) in the dock. and then it opens
the game run perfectly after that
so it seems something changed somewhere, but where?

RESOLVED
for some reason there were two Wineserver entries in the allow list. One pointed to a lone Wineserver in one folder and the other pointed to a folder with multiple Wine files. I could change the one in the grep folder to 'ALLOW' but the other was locked on blocked. So I deleted the wineserver it was pointing to.
That cured my problem. I now go seamlessly from the char selection screen into Eve. I don't know where that errant copy of Wineserver came from, but will look for it again if the problem re-occurs |

Reporting massive framerate drops once I switch to wine.
As long as I am using Cider, all works smooth at high fps but as soon as I switch to wine, my framerate drops into the unplayable even though all graphical settings remain the same.
When I switch back to Cider, all works well. Tried switching around between them and always the same issue that can be experienced. Is this known to happen on some machines?
On El Capitan here with a i7 Quad Core and 16GB of Ram.

did you give permissions to allowing incoming connections? if yes
Check permisions and repair maybe the port is owned by other program. use activity monitor to se what is working at same time. |

I want to run my EVE client in portable mode so that EVEMon can scrape the cache data. Presumably this requires running the client with the option '/LUA:OFF' or maybe '/end /LUA:OFF' and then pointing the EVEMon client towards the equivalent of %LOCALAPPDATA%\CPP\EVE.
1) How do I get the wine client to run in portable mode?
2) Where in the "$USER/Library/Application Support/EVE Online" directory structure is the correct cache directory for wine? Is it "$USER/Library/Application Support/EVE Online/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/SharedCache/wineenv/drive_c/users/$USER/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE"? |

Hi
having an issue in Windowed mode running at my usual 1024x768 (also tried 1280x768) where I have to position the mouse pointer slightly below where I would usually have it on screen in order to click. The problem doesn't exist in Full Screen or Fixed Mode
I am using the actual machine screen (not external monitor or tv)

lol post forum timer. X11 is a fallback - the native Mac driver is failing for some reason. Would be interested in seeing logs - please file a bug report and attach the launcher logs. It's easiest to find them by going to the View menu in the launcher, Reveal in Finder, Launcher Logs.

If I understand this - I have similar issues, but mine comes from the window not wanting to become the active window if I have been swapping back and forth between different applications. Normally swapping apps works - or just minimizing the eve window and then unminimizing it works.
A lot of the issues can be fix quickly by just changing applications. Clearing cache files and sometimes just a good old restart on the mac.
Edit - and once you restart - play with logging in the back ground so Snorlax can have something fun to read on his days off.

Make sure you have the latest non-dev version of Wine selected in the launcher preferences. Latest dev can be quite unstable and can jump between three different branches so I don't recommend using that except for testing specific versions.

All the best, Vayaa
I have the same issue...All is/was great under Cider (since No changing back anymore as far as I know).
I was sailing smoothly with ALL settings on HIGH, only the shadows on LOW, DX9, and the asteroid environment OFF. Some fields had a million tiny rocks to make it look "special", but I found it incredibly annoying.
Playing fullscreen at 2560x1440.....
Under Wine on the other hand: low fps, fps drops, chop, lag...etc....
I've been trying different settings and ALL settings on LOW, Shadows OFF, AA OFF, PR OFF...and yes, ALL unchecked except the turret option, the game remains to be close to unplayable...
I saw some posts on other forums stating that Wine always has had problems with opengl. But none proposed a solution or workaround.
I took a look at this >>> https://wiki.winehq.org/Performance <<< nothing really that ca help so far...
I did everything according to "the cider to wine" thread on the forum. I have no clue if there is a command that can be used in Wine debug thing that could help the many people who have a bad Wine experience...So actually running out of ideas...

In the last 24 hours, I've had two mysterious wine crashes right when I am docking into an NPC station. First, a Windows window pops up outside of the EVE window and says that the program is in a bad state and is shutting the app down and then the app shuts down. Haven't been quick enough to get a screen grab. Anyone else seen it? |

The icons in window mode are extremely big because of the resolution. It works fine using cider. Hope you can solve this problem. |

This continues one of the biggest issues for a few of us.
The variable that could be at play is the resolution settings in the OS under System Preferences. I have it at default which on a 15" retina is 1440x900 "pixel doubled". Probably this is what wine does capture as my resolution instead of 2880x1800 it should look at.
So as Wine is not recognizing the underlying resolution correctly in windowed mode and shrinks game down while MacOS magnifies it up again for retina. Tried playing around with DPI settings in the cfg files ("LogPixels" setting), but had no impact.
Hope we can solve this. I miss playing multiple clients at 2560x1440 windowed. |

I think there is a way to control this behavior in Wine, via the registry. I don't remember the details right now - I'll investigate and see if I can introduce a setting in the launcher for this.

I think your estimate is far off. Please remember that while Mac is the officially supported platform, there is a fair share of people using exactly the same thing to play Eve under other flavours of Unix systems (like me - happily running Eve under WIne under Linux Mint 17). |

For issues with the crashing game on any user action (that is what i had)
Try the following:
In launcher go to settings, check 'use the dev versions'
and select the only version that is not marked 'ccp-daily'.
For me it was wine 1.9.1.XXXXX
It fixed those issues for me. |
