Out of pure embarressment I am not posting with my main.
SO there I was 11:30 at night and trying to get back to base after an op.
A private chat window pops up and he tells me he has seen my Auction for a module I am selling for 285mill isk with no buyout on it.
He wants it but does not want to wait the 5 days left and so he offers me 350 mill isk. My eyes go $$ and I think hello.
So I reject the offer and say I want 400 mill and I will sell now, he refuses and says he will get back to me.
During this time I check him out...he is a 2003 player and in a player corp...all good and well.
I convo him back and say 385 mill. Deal or no deal? he says good, lets do it....with one request. That I set the auction up for his corp and with a low bid price to avoid taxes. I think, ok fair enough. So...I....do !!!!! 10,000 initial price with a 385 mill buyout.
I am tired and desperatly in need of the isk and honestly not used to using auctions.
I link the auction in the chat window when I set it up and he says "Great, I will collect it soon"
****and he is gone****
I check the auction and sure enough, there is the first bid..for 10,000 isk.
It is then I get the feeling of....ermm, ok.. where is the rest of it ? and my spine tingles and I think....I have been scammed havent I?
Sure enough, I am now blocked from the buyer..I check his background a bit more carefully and the corp is one member and he has been in it since 2003...damn.
So a one member corp with a corp auction specially for him,
My mistakes:
Didnt check his history fully
Didnt fully understand auction function (I thought I could cancell the auction even with a bid)
I was too nice and trusting.
I should never have gone down this path when tired
I WAS GREEDY, I wanted the ISK here and now.
I must admit I am feeling well and trully scammed but enjoying the wide diverse experiences this game offers. I think I love this game even more now because of this

This has coming about very heavy in the last week or so, and a lot of people are getting stung by it, lol...
Went entering into any exchange with anyone think about things logicly and you will never be scammed..
GREED will always catch you out...

If you have enough money, simply transfer it to an alt of yourself and buy the module out yourself. You keep the isk and the module, but you do suffer the taxes from it. Let's call it a "Reminder Tax" not to get greedy in the future. :)
If you don't have the money, well.. hope a corpmate does. Otherwise you're out of luck.

I made the Auction Private but to his corp...his one man corp.. so only his corp (Himself) can bid on it.
I thought I could cancell the Auction at any time though, THought that was my safety net. So there is 6 days left untill he can claim it, but it is just a waiting game now.
I think his name was "alternate" or simillar...I was tired at the time

ummm...
the auction is to another corp - with one member. So it is an auction that only one person can bid on (the scammer). As there is no reserve on the auction (which is the actual issue) all "the scammer" has to do is wait for the auction to time out and claim the item at 10,000 ISK.
This would not work if it was possible to set a reserve and the reserve was equal to the buyout.

I was involved in that episode, i was in Jita local warning ppl not to fall for it and wasted 30 min of my life trying to warn some ppl not to fall for it, but guess what ... it didn't matter.
Some ppl are too stupid to have money.

Outbid him. Simple as that. If you have the buyout money, transfer it to an alt, and buy out your own contract. Alternatively have a corp mate do it for you...
Or, you can just bid as much money as you can, say 200 million, with an alt or a friend, and the scammer will either have to beat that price, or you'll get the mod, and your money back... minus contract fees and such.
Easily solved.

Oh, I skipped over the part about it being a private auction. In the future, never sell via private auction. In fact, you should have made the person come to the station the item was in, and trade you the isk for the item directly, thus insuring there was no scam, and skipping any taxes/charges.

The fact that so many people have jumped in to tell the op "DUHH JUST OUT BIT HIM DUHHHH " just shows how easy people in this game skip over the small print and can be scammed.
The peole tellin the op how easy it is to sort this out are the kind of dumbasses that get scammed.

except its was a 400m+ item and he only bid 1000 isk

Actually, I'm a little more aware when hundreds of millions of isk are on the line.
There is quite a difference between skimming through forum posts and not paying attention when you are about to spend $300 million isk on something.

Sounds like the same person who got a friend of mine, only it was a Revelation, and it was 0 isk starter bid.
Sucky one cant cancel an auction once bid has been laid.
