Got shown the game on a friend's PC... he logged me on as one of his alts then went to bed. I couldnt find out how to turn the game off on the computer (didnt occur to me to press <esc>) so I just turned the computer off.
Went to sleep hoping that it wouldnt crash the game.
This wouldnt have ben a problem other than it was in 2005, just after the Exodus deployment when the servers went down for a WEEK. Didnt know about the forums... thought I had broken the entire game!

"Stealing" Velators left around my starter station.
"AFK" Mining with a tristan, making 10 trips back to the station and cashing out about 100k and feeling like I'd solved the game.
And why did I have 14 missions with 14 different agents scattered over half the galaxy? And some of them required me going into .5 space!! "HELL NO, I'll decline that mission, I'll get killed by pirates and have to start over."
"Oh cool, this person wants to gang with me to help me with this ***** of a Level 2 mission in this .4 system, that's awesome."
--The thing is, I'm still doing dumb crap, I just won't know it for another year.

I remember never leaving station without a shield booster, an armor repper, and a hull repper.
On the upside, it motivated me to max every capcitor skill I could get my hands on.
Never a threat, but always a thorn in the side. |

Edited by: Gobblock on 15/02/2007 16:35:06 On my FIRST day, some other noob in a hauler invited me to go mine with him.
Then when he logged off he left abou 3km3 of pyroxerxes in his can. so i spent like 3 hours hauling it back to station before warp to zero (or instas) a few hundred m3 at a time
Then i refined the ore without skills, and sold the minerals in station, for what i later learned was a very bad price
I thought i was rich, and then i looked at the market and saw about 5-6 more digits for alot of ships
so for a few months i thought mining in high sec was where the BIG isk was, so i bought a bantom and mined my heart out in bantom/osprey for a few weeks until i realized i wasnt making jack

- Jumping back to my station in my brand new ibis to validate my mission, the warp end me up near a Raven, I didnt understand why I couldnt dock in the "station"... "Oh wait its a ship ! omfg its huge ! I wonder how many players actually pilot that thing ?!"
- Few months later, first trip in 0.0 exploring belts with my leet Vigil fitted with a mwd, then pop a 750k Megathron with 2 frigs 40km away from me... I got a heart attack when I saw the frigs approaching me at 2000m/s thinking wisely that they had to be scamblers, so I activate my Mwd and start orbiting the mega thinking nothing could happen to me at 3000 m/s. then I see big balls of light approching me with high speed and decide to warp out (big mistake, I think RmR was released few weeks before) I still had the signature radius of a Titan but the speed of a freighter when those cruise missile hit me right before warping. 10% structure was a bit scary travelling back to home, specially through Y9G-KS where an inty finished the job and ransomed me for 1337 isk to let my pod live (pilot name was lolerskate or something like that, funny guy :p )

Some 2 weeks before RMR
I remember when I opened my first loot can in the training complex. It contained a Fleeting Warp Scrambler and I though YESS!! With this ultra rare thing I'm gonna be the best pirate ever
It also contained a Guristas ship log which mentioned a hidden supply depot in a system 10 jumps away. I though I've hit the jackpot and traveled there immediately. The description said something like "behind planet III" so naturally I warped to planet III. No sign of the hidden treasure. Then I set course next to the moon and left for 10 minutes, I was unhappy that I still haven't found it when I got back. Then I realized that it's BEHIND the planet, so I had to warp in from the opposite direction! After that plan failed too I asked my corpmates and then I was the laughing stock for half an hour...
My friend who gave me the trial key said that he's doing a mission. I thought missions must be good so I asked if I can come. He formed a gang and initiated a gang warp, I was shocked that somehow he gained control of my ship. Then we started the mission he went in first to get aggro. I think he was in a cruiser. He told me to just start shooting so I unleashed the full power of the civilian gatling railgun on my Ibis. When we finished the mission he looked at my ship and said OMG you're in an Ibis?! I felt offended that he mocked my uber ship
When he urged me non-stop to buy a "real ship" and also provided me with 500k ISK I've bought a Heron because it looked cool

I remember being very afraid of stacking penalties because it didn't say what the penalty was. I thought something bad would happen like the mods wouldn't work at all or you would get fined.

Having a picture in my head of a huge fleet battle, with weapons going off, missiles flying about, huge noise and atmosphere being achievable, and the peak of the game for me.
Now I play with all effects and often sound off when PvPing :/
That and thinking joining Xetic alliance was a good idea.

I'm still relatively new as far as actual ingame time, but when I started my subscription I can't tell you how many characters I recycled trying to get the individual skill(x) levels down to train faster. You know, the number that tells you how fast or slow it will train? I thought that number was DIRECTLY related to the attributes and character type I chose on setup. So like I would spend time nudging attributes in the character setup trying to find the perfect industrial, or miner, or combat pilot only to find on login the friggin skills were the same lvl as before!? Then of course, I would start all over again because obviously I made some mistake.
After days going back and forth like this, I figured I needed to get some help. It took like an hour argueing with older FNA players for me to finally get it. "uh... so you're telling me skill ranks are the same across the board? no matter what attributes you have!?" I still refused to believe them in that surely they must have misunderstood my questions. dag'nabbit! my signature never wo |

Thinking my friends were uber because one of them flew a ferox and another clew a caracal.
Thinking another friend was the richest guy alive because he could afford to give me 5mill, and could buy a megathron.
Sensor boosting a caracal to do lvl 1s because the lock time was too long :D

When I started playing I thought you had to log off in a station or your ship would remain in game and someone could just board and steal it. ---

Edited by: Par''Gellen on 16/02/2007 06:48:06 Just remembered some more.
Accidentally stole someone's ore because I thought that the can that was floating near the roid I was mining was the result of the mining I was doing and I was supposed to collect the ore from it. He was cool about it though and said he'd done the same thing the day before
The first time I saw a bestower (June 2003 while mining in my noob ship) I couldn't believe how huge it was and thought it had to be indestructible.
Saved isk for WEEKS to buy an Omen and after I picked it up I thought I was an unstoppable mining juggernaut.

I spent several hours sticking all the stats of the industrials in a spreadsheet to see which was going to be the most efficient mining juggernaut that I could use until I got my barges up. Three and a half hours for 2m iskies of ore. Man, I was teh s***z. Mad money baby! The Merovingians ALWAYS get the last word. |
